Now my question is how does one go about reaching that place without using the method I used? I think I have a plan, but it's complicated, involves a lot of setup and is very difficult to execute.

Actually, it's the same method you used toget one of the coins in Area 5. The one with plenty of red herrings.

getting the red bird from earlier in the level, taking it to the platform where the hole is, standing on top of it and let it walk off the edge. then, just as you start falling, pick the bird (which you should still be standing on) up. if done right, you should get under the ledge :)

How so? As far as I can tell that's just the end product.
Alright, I'll explain for Ringlum; the screenshot shows two pink birds are present. That part of the level holds one pink bird, implying he used the one from earlier in the level to get there.

But if you've never been there you couldn't possibly know there was only one bird. If you do know there's only one bird, then you already know how to get there. :P
Oh, I thought you had to have a box fall on the bird, which is all sorts of super complicated.
I didn't know you could pick up a bird as you fall.
To clarify, again:
The original poster wrote he had already been there but using another method. So obviously he knew the place, and knew it had 1 bird. He also mentioned he was looking for another method.
My post was made as a reply to his request. To a person who has already seen the place with 1 bird and who knows the rest of level 1, seeing 2 birds should give away the method employed to get there.
