About
Pokémon V is a Pokémon game made by fans, for fans. Our main goal with this project is quite simply to make our own Pokémon game, trying to make something with at least some quality, adding our own touch to it and altering things we find to be wrong with Pokémon games, without altering the original formula too much. You’re still a young Pokémon trainer going around defeating gym leaders and an evil organization, and ultimately conquering the Elite Four, it’s still a regular Pokémon game, it’s just that it’s our Pokémon game.
Regarding /v/
It’s a fact that the game had its origins on the /v/ board of 4chan.org, and that most of the development team members are also usual frequenters of /v/. As such, the game does contain some in-jokes and references to /v/, but worry not – we’d hate the game to be filled with memes and faggotry just as much as anybody else, so references of this nature are few and subtle. The game is meant to be played and enjoyed as a regular Pokémon game, and said references will not in any way interfere with that.
About the story
We’re trying to make it so that the game’s story is somewhat more serious and relevant to the game than in the official games. Not too much, just enough to make it more distinguishable from the official games.
So as to not spoil things too much, we’ve asked our lead writter to write a few words about the story, and this is what he came up with:
Team Rocket has taken over the Echon Region, and using their vast resources turned the small island into a thriving center of technological progress.
But lately their focus has turned to four ancient temples that dot the flowing landscape. Now some of the island’s locals have begun a secret race against Team Rocket to uncover the clues and solve the mysteries that lie beneath.
All the while, a young trainer takes on the hardships of a pokemon journey – made pointless by Team Rocket’s easy training schools – and shows the world what it truely means to be the very best.
Features
Pokémon V is filled with several features that try to contribute to delivering a more unique and enjoyable experience than that of the official games, as well as making an overall quality game, such as:
■HM Items - Everyone knows the pain of having to sacrifice move slots and sometimes even team members to be able to use the HM moves the game requires you to have in order to advance with the story. To fix that problem, we’ve replaced the effects HM moves have outside of battle with key items that serve the same purposes, leaving the players free to build their teams however they like. Also, if you liked to use some of those moves in battles, don’t worry – the moves are still there, only now they come from TMs and can be deleted just like any other move
■An online hall of fame - Taking advantage of the server communication features of the Pokémon Essentials package we’re using to build the game, we have designed an online hall of fame to be hosted on our site, to which the information regarding your team and other things like your play time are automatically updated when you defeat the Elite Four.
■A carefully designed regional Pokédex - At first we had planned to include all Pokémon from the four generations into our game. However, we ended up realizing that given the limited size of our game’s region and the lack of trading between players, it was just unreasonable to include every Pokémon. With that in mind, we designed a Pokédex containing 280 Pokémon from all generations (no fakémon included, if you were worried about that), taking into consideration aspects such as balance between types, coherence with the climate and geography of our region, and of course popularity of each Pokémon.
■Increased difficulty - It was the consensus among the team members that the overall difficulty of the official games is not quite as high as we would like, so we’re trying to make our game slightly harder. We’re taking care to make it so that “harder” doesn’t mean “the player has to spend more time grinding for levels”, recurring to methods such as giving overpowered exclusive signature moves to gym leaders rather than just over leveled Pokémon, thus forcing the player to find a strategy to beat those cheap moves rather than just training their Pokémon for a few extra levels to beat the gym leaders.
■An original Soundtrack - We’ve been blessed with having some great music composers on our team, so we won’t be using any music from the official games – every music track in our game will be made by us. We’ll be working both with entirely new music and remixes of material from the official games (not just the main ones, though – expect remixes of music from spin-off games like the Pokemon Trading Card Game for the GBC).
