Title: [experiment/tutorial] Juni´s Paradise garden
Post by: stiggits on February 16, 2010, 17:55:47
Juni´s Paradise garden
Hi, this is just a single screen I put together using screen size images as custom objects so that Juni can walk behind things. Im sure this has been done before, but I included a tutorial in the level showing how to change a background layer into a foreground very quickly using just paint and notepad. A lot more can be done with a good image editor, but the tutorial was just to show how easily a basic but effective foreground effect can be made Enjoy, and I hope its helpful.

Brilliant, tremendously helpful, and awesome. (Awesmoe?) Hands-down the most beautiful tutorial -- for anything -- I've ever seen. Paradise indeed!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you thank you thank you.
I've been playing with some level ideas for which your full-screen CO method would work even better than the way I'd been considering doing it. Doing it more or less the same way might have occurred to me eventually, but if nothing else you saved me a tremendous amount of trial-and-error.
How do I give out stars? Because this clearly deserves one.

It is called 'Hiddenstar' because it is the player character out of the minigame 'hidden' out of WaDF (Within a Deep Forest)

Glad you liked it and found it useful, With a image editor that supports proper transparency you can do a lot more, I tried using a gradient transparency to imitate light from street lamps, and it looked quite effective as Juni gradually became visible as she entered the light and invisible as she walked out of it. Look forward to seeing your level Jack.
