Probably too early to tell, but how long should this take, Nifflas? I'm really interested in another game with a level editor. :awsum:
-
Yeah, and what will be the main character? Knytt? Ball? Juni? Saira?
-
I'd like to tell it, but I rather wait until I can be sure about when I'll be done.

[offtopic]there is NO SUCH THING as too much muse! As is i am currently listening to Undisclosed Desires at full volume! XD[/offtopic]

Fully understood. Really looking forward to this, niff!

*crosses fingers* Plz let it be Juni plz let it be Juni plz let it be Juni...
-
It won't be Juni, she's too nice and harmless. To me, this game is a break I need from my seriousness and deeper meaning, so it has to be a character who have a personality that lets him/her run around and e.g. throw bombs at random creatures and enemies.
Any ideas?
-
What? A Niffgame where you harm creatures?
Ooh, you just HAVE to pick Das Magdenburska Deathray Pansarcrawler as the main character! :D
-
Make the main character a chef.
A ninja chef.
Wait, no. A robot chef.

I second this idea! And a violent Niff game sure is a novelty! I wonder what it will be like..
-
I wouldn't call it violent in that sense though. The game is very harmless.
Basically, Saira was a very a very ambitious project just like Night Game and Knytt Stories was. Even my smaller projects like Knytt meant a lot to me. However, having just finished my largest and ambitious game to this date, I by some reason I feel like I have to do something small, silly, funny nonsense that doesn't really mean anything. Note that I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm really happy with this game too and right now it really is the best sort of project I could dig into. The gameplay mechanics are really neat, and unlike Knytt Stories, every object interact with each other in a different way, which means that quite complex puzzles can be accomplished with just a few objects. This should be perfect for level editing!
Of course I'll return to more ambitious and meaningful games again, I just need a break right now!
-
Take a ferret. Or an armadillo. Or a walking cactus. :]
-
Sounds nice, Niff... but I'm still crossing my fingers for Das Magdenburska! :^^:
-
I support minmay's chef idea.
-
What about a customizeable character? Or multiple ones? Maybe the robot/ninja chef is the main character, but after beating the game once you unlock Das Magdenburska... or something.
But since I'm a programmer myself I understand that it would take extra time, and probably not worth implementing.

And we could play as the turtle! No, not the Turtle Philosopher, but the Awesome Fun Turtle (http://jollyjack.deviantart.com/art/Awesome-Fun-Turtle-154678543)!
-
I agree with the robot ninja chef turtle deathray panzer crawler idea.
-
how about a 2 foot purple guy with eyebrows bigger than his head, and the strange ability to make things turn to custard just by thinking about them. he can run at 60 mph, but takes 3 screens or so to slow down. and if he touches a wall or the ceiling, millions of ping-pong balls flood the screen, killing him instantly. he can also fly by pressing the key just left of the CAPS LOCK key, but this ability only lasts 46 hours before he catches fire for no reason.
no, wait, that's silly...
he can make things turn to mustard just by thinking about them.
-
How about the bird?
-
he can also fly by pressing the key just left of the CAPS LOCK key.
Did you mean the Boost Button?

-
I thought you had to press 8 a lot, which would flip your keyboard over, revealing all those keys they use in Tutorials XD

Ah! There it is! Oooh, and the any key (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Any_key) is there too! XD

Sounds like Mario. Or Spelunky. Except you tend to be partial to female protagonists, except if it's an animal, where it's male. Or it could be a ball.
Surprise and excite us, Nifflas! I can't wait, even if it takes you 5 years!
Oh, and you should probably rename this topic to "Character Speculation".
-
Well, right now it isn't even a character speculation. I got a robot/alien character that I created early, but I'm going to replace it with something that have more personality. Right now I'm blank, the character could potentially be anything. Any ideas?
-
The bird. The one from bird game. :P
-
I doubt that Nifflas will change the movement engine, so its probably just only how the character looks.
A ninja would be cool though.
How about the Knytt Stories Ninja that crawls up and down against walls throwing stuff to you?
-

Why would he have change the movement engine?
-
because the bird doesn't only run and climb (assuming it'll be such game).
The primary goal of a human charcher is to run, jump, climb. Its environment is build around that.
If you change it to a bird, then it suddenly changes to run, jump and fly. The environment will have to change and climbing has to be changed to flying.
Nifflas mentioned he had a robot, so its a human kind of character that runs and jumps. If it can climb, I dunno.
-
robots can fly too if you build them like that. Like the Iron man. :P
also birds can not fly, like penguins, you know. and even if it was "the birdgamebird", its flying ability could be just like a flap of the wings for a double jump.
since it's a game, to say that it has to be a human character because that's what the usual gaming engine is based on, is not exactly a "proof" or very logical conclusion. eventually, it could even be a fish that walks and jumps and maybe climbs, since it's fictional.

iron man is a cyborg not a robot
-
LPChip is right in this case. This player's abilities as well as physical shape makes it impossible to place a bird sprite there. Sure, you could excuse the lack of fly abilities with that the bird have not figured out how to fly, but the main problem is that the character width/height relationship is 1:2 and can carry objects above his/her head.
-
and can carry objects above his/her head.
:O
I sense puzzles.
-
How about a robot firebreathing t-rex? or poison breath or something kick ass
-
A ninja would be cool though.
How about the Knytt Stories Ninja that crawls up and down against walls throwing stuff to you?
Agreed. That little ninja is awesome.
-
The adventures of Charles the business executive.
Or alternatively, he could be a regular salesman.
-
How about a cyborg ninja penguin who is also a chef?

Aww... Das Magdenburska is like 2:1. Hmm... uhh... maybe... now I know! A black square rectangle! :D
-
Hmm. How about an Arabian prince?
Well, of course, that would only be in the original Swedish version. After all, since Nifflas Of America thought the (Sweden-only) Knytt Stories 2 was too difficult for American audiences, you might want to dress up the United States version with Knytt characters and call it Knytt Stories 2 as if the Swedish KS2 never happened.

Mario

Mario
Mario-analogue from TME.

YES!

Mario
Mario-analogue from TME.
YES!
No! :D
-
I agree! NO!!! :juni:
-
Don't worry, I'm not going to create a mario game. There'll be a different character.
-
A bugbear maybe?
-
The player description sounds like LiCS
-
The adventures of Charles the business executive.
Or alternatively, he could be a regular salesman.
I second this. It's the only obvious choice.
..he could sell explosive turnips.
-
He could sell them with flair.
-
A hedgehog? :hedgehog:
-
The last posts seem to be straying away from being on-topic. Lets get back on topic, shall we...
-
Um, there isn't a topic? Pumpkinbot wanted a release date and Nifflas didn't have one. End of story, there's nothing to discuss. Maybe you would like to split the posts about the character into a new topic.
-
A bugbear maybe?
This. I like this idea.
-
O rly? Why is that? Do you think I got it from you? :awsum:
-
Lets bring up the Official Forum Rules again.
It clearly says that you should not go off-topic.
If a topic is done, simply stop posting in it. Going off-topic because there's nothing more to discuss is not an option, and it never was.
Seeing that people don't understand it, consider yourself lucky and I'll help you for now.
