I think it's just there to be easily distinguishable, which is all a favicon really has to do.

It symbolizes the fact that whoever starts playing these games will be sucked into the great atmosphere of Nifflas' games.

Or the fact that one shall descend into insanity while trying to beat #MAS XH.  :crazy:

If I remember correctly the default info image in KS also has a light gra/ey spiral. Maybe there's some connection...
