Title: Secrets (Obvious Spoilers Ahoy!)
Post by: DoomGoon on December 12, 2009, 12:57:50
I just posted a "beat it" thread but didn't want to delve into any potential secret spoilers there.

Not that I've really found anything secret yet... however, if you manage to make it all the way up left via jetting on "Dragon Noir" There is this thing here.  I don't remember if it had anything to do with a puzzle.  Anyone remember?

Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Also, anyone catch any WADF/Knytt references?  Obviously there's the big one in one of the endings (don't remember the combination of parts offhand) but anyone notice anything else?  I swear a couple of the animals looked familiar.  I also wonder if we'll see "bird game"  :P2

Likewise, was trying to figure out what was marked on these plyers... I see an N and S so it's probably Nifflas or Nicklas.

Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Wow, that statue is wonderful.
If you managed to get that, it means you are good at jumping walls and hurling yourself through the air with an outright deathwish...! I would never have figured that kamikaze move out if Nifflas hadn't showed me.

I've never seen those pliers, but there's also something that can be interpreted as a submacopter somewhere on that planet. :] (reference to QC)

There's an interesting story behind the first picture. I originally attempted to animate Saira in Poser 5 but once I had the animations working I couldn't figure out how to put clothes on her. I realized I'd need to create clothes in 3D Studio Max or something to make them look like I wanted, so either I'd have to put use a naked heroine in the game or learn some other software. I decided to finally learn Anime Studio Pro better instead, which turned out to be a much better choice anyway.

As a reference I wanted to put the original Saira somewhere in the game.

Found it too and it's not part of a puzzle.
I just thought, hey.. an open space.. and I've got access to flying nearby.. let's check it out!

The combination is:
Targeting Unit: Basic
Impulse Charge: High Power
Fuse: High Power

I noted down some numbers which was written on one of the generators in Dragons Noir, but they were never used anywhere. : /

Nifflas told me that was actually from the device he photographed, so there is really no meaning to it. =P

the blue generator has some braille on it which means "push! call" as far as I could figure out through extended research, but quite obviously it never turned out to mean anything significant for the game either. X)

Btw, which puzzles did you have the hardest time doing? I'd say the "programming puzzles" in Goldschmidt was great, but the heart-shaped one was pretty nasty. Apart from that I didn't really have much trouble. Not that it was too easy, the difficulty was fine, but... wouldn't mind them in a higher difficulty either.

Yes, you have to have seen the pliers, otherwise you would not have been able to recharge the spaceship. xD

But there is an even harder secret to find on Dragon Noir, which seems also to be a reference to the webcomic Questionable Content. Sorry, my bad...

Btw, what did the "Ship Drive Extension" do anyway?

EDIT:
Now about references:
I'm sure it's not a reference, but the behavior of these creatures reminded me of the orange creatures on the outer wall in Cave Story

It's just a radio playing a silly tune :)

Heh, it would have been cool if finding that thing unlocked the radio on the spaceship, then. Or some more stations. Too late for that, though. :P

Nah, Saira was called Bird Game for a short period of time if I remember correct. There was even a picture of the Bird going around.

Yeah, I got to that other secret on Dragon Noir that you posted PONTO, but didn't want to post it until I had more time to look into it to see if it referenced anything  X)

I really wish I didn't have finals next week or I'd spend the weekend tearing apart this game.  I'm not one of those people who normally does that it games, but there's definitely something special about a Nifflas release.

*edit*

Alright, final thing I looked into, regarding a song on the radio.  Decided I'd finally start using the Spoiler tag, although in this case I doubt there's a spoiler here!

Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Today Nifflas also posted some

In the "good ending" Saira and Bobo see an article about Saira's disappearance.
It's a newspaper where the picture and heading is edited in.

I think the original article is this one:

Politics.. but I suck a Swedish, so I can't tell you much more.  :P2

Vänsterpartiet would be a political party, though I can't be sure what their stands are. I'm pretty sure "Vänster" is left, but it could be like in Denmark where the political party called "Venstre" (meaning: Left) is actually right-wing.

arrgh.. politics.. they're difficult enough in ones own language.  :ohnoes:

I have definitely not been there... but it looked familiar
Title: Re: Secrets (Obvious Spoilers Ahoy!)
Post by: PONTO on December 13, 2009, 23:07:54
I didn't think that was possible! You had to be REALLY fast! :O

EDIT: I pulled it off, but it took me some tries. Too bad Nifflas didn't put anything there... :(

EDIT2: Now I did that to the right! There is a small place up above the clock where you can land. Nothing special there as well, though... But the challenge is great. :)

That room was added just hours before the game was released. I had got so many reports that people couldn't get up the vertical passage fast enough before the fly power ran out that I wanted to quickly do something about it before I let the game out. Of course, the problem about increasing the fly time is that suddenly it was possible to reach that platform as well, so I had to put something there. If I had more time, I would have put something interesting at that place but I knew I had to hurry.

It says so in the tutorial tip on that screen.

Saira was initially described as a game with a bird. The bird was on a billboard. How exciting, right?

Nifflas announced earlier that he changed his mind about the main character in this game, but the bird sprites will be used in another game:

Quote from: Nifflas in a deleted topic
To tell the truth, I really liked the bird but it was not enough fun to use as a playable character, Saira is a much more fun character to control. I'll keep the bird sprites though, I have an idea for a game after Saira and NG in which I'd like to use it...

As the billboard says: "coming soon".  ;)

I didn't need it either. That is a map of the distribution of the checkpoints in Claymore. You don't really need it, as you can memorize the locations of the checkpoints.

About the computers on Explorer XLII, I don't think there is anything else to them.

I think that has been addressed before. those numbers aren't used anywhere, they were there when Nifflas took the photo. So they're original blurb.
