Title: Anyone else beat it yet?
Post by: DoomGoon on December 12, 2009, 12:26:52
Wasn't planning on picking it up this weekend and playing through it in one go... but couldn't resist a Nifflas game!

Overall, loved it... wished there was more platforming though versus the puzzle terminals though!  Some I loved, others I would have rather skipped.  I cannot wait for more episodes and user generated content.

Anyone find any secrets yet?  I think I found a hidden area but I couldn't figure it out in the end... might look tomorrow

...

Well.
You mean you found one of the endings...
But have you found them all, already?!

I mean...
I mean...
It all depends on where you go, what you've done.
Perhaps you should tell what ending you got to first,
and hide it as a spoiler,
and then go off finding the rest...!

I think it's not much of a spoiler to tell you there are 6 different endings, but there is one which is definitely "the good ending".

I finally finished the game (I had just assumed I needed all the items in the game, so I gathered them all, and used the best ones, getting the best ending.)

Another amazing game from Nifflas.  Kind of short for a game that actually costs money, but since I never donated before I'll just look at it like I was paying for all the fun I've had with his previous games at the same time.

Now to figure out if I can actually do anything with the level editor....

That's the way I looked at it, too. I think paying 19 bucks as thanks for the many hours that Saira, Knytt, Knytt Stories, Within A Deep Forest, A Strange Dream, etc. is perfectly reasonable. Particularly if there'll be further episodes yet to come. It's like a debt paid and an investment all in one!

As for me, I sat down around 2 PM to play the demo, bought the game around 3 PM and finished about half an hour ago (shortly before 6 PM). All in all, it was a great afternoon!  C)p Saw all 6 endings, and managed to spot a couple of the secrets they're talking about over in the Secrets thread. I might try fiddling with the F12 debug later this evening, seeing what fun stuff I can find!

The ending I found is kinda a tease or "taunt" from nifflas :P

But in order to find others, you need to find better/other items? (in the full version I assume..)

.. but that only because it was 4am, and I was really tired. I just played away at it constantly, until I had it beat. Well worth buying. I would actually be curious to find out how many people have bought it to date, out of pure curiosity...

Edit: The Knytt ending is...

Well, according to this extremely accurate poll (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=2274.0), as many as 20 people have actually bought the game!

Hey, that's over $380 in a few days.

:-/

Still not too much. I would hope that Saria is selling extremely well. I mean if Nifflas worked on the game for a year or so (not sure how much) he would like to get the equivilant of the money he could've gotten if he was working on a part time job, at least... So MORE than $380. Plus if he wants to make the next game faster, the best possible outcome would be to get so much money, to last him the development of the next series and earn from that, etc...

Yes, finished the game, all 6 endings. Was a matter really of going each time to Lomondo, or however is called and changing one item at the time.

Oh yes, I finished it a few days ago. Got all the endings and made a list of them too! But it turned out LightningEagle beat me to the punch on that one :P2

Does anyone know what the future of this game holds?  I think I remember mention of him working with Nicalis for a console version but who knows...

Are there going to be more official episodes?  Will they be free or will we have to buy them?

All the stuff about a console version was months ago, when all that now-outdated information was released.

(For example, this article (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/03/cave-story-developer-nicalis-reveals-project-q/). "According to Nicalis's Tyrone Rodriguez, the developer has "WiiWare in mind." However, "In truth," he told IGN, "it could be WiiWare, Wii disc or even PSN, XBLA and PC."" OR EVEN PC!)

I don't imagine a port to a console would be impossible, but it seems unlikely to me.

Are there going to be more official episodes?  Will they be free or will we have to buy them?

If there are not future episodes, I will be severely disappointed.

Nifflas has hinted at a continuation of the current plot, as he said that he has a surprisingly detailed plan for the plot. And who can ignore the gargantuan cliffhanger at the end of the first episode?

We'll see, I can't promise anything. Besides, it's kind of my style (WaDF) to tell excerpts of stories and later re-connect to them in other games. To be completely honest, I haven't made up any plans yet, but I hope that every game I do can tell something more about the universe.

My brother bought it today for me for Christmas. I beat it today.

Very much hoping nifflas releases some more episodes as a thank you to those who put down cash.

I finished it in 3 days, all endings. ;)
Don't worry, I think I'll just be a jerk and rub it in you face with my mad platforming skillz!

JK, I wouldn't do that.
For those who want tips, what I did was get all the items, then try them in the teleporter with different combinations. It's a lot of fun, because it's all right there for you.

If there's a continuation would it be of the best ending or could there be alternate following episodes, each from a separate ending?

The ones where Saira manages to use the teleporter could be really cool.

I'd really like to do this, but it will depend on a few factors. Saira is a complicated game to create levels for, and right now I want to do something really simple and easy. I think I have an awesome idea. Perhaps when I've finished this, I'll create more content for Saira.

I finally beat it in the middle of last week. I accidentally skipped Goldschmidt and after trying out all combination I was frustrated I couldn't get the good endings.

So I read the forum and felt quite stupid I have overlooked that planet (it is kinda out of the way) and did it all. Hardest part was getting the battery power, the items are quite easy to obtain.

Seems loads of people are really eager for Niff' to be creating more episodes. While that'd be awesome, if and when, why not try opening up the editor in the meantime and starting to nose around yourselves?  :^^:
It's a lot of fun and there's a really nice, rapidly expanding collection of information in the Saira Level Editing Support forum. Really well organised too (thanks LightningEagle!)  ;)

Yup! Played through the first 2 planets, bought it, then finished the remaining ones. Took me about 4 sittings of 2-3 hours each. Amazingly fun, and just the right level of challenge. Every time I thought it was going to be too much, I took some time off, and came back and managed to beat the game.

Looking forward to more episodes...and yes I'll take a look at doing my own, too!
