Although Nifflas is lucky to have a talented Saira artist already, I believe there is still some space left for us fans to post our Saira-inspired artwork here. :)

I'll start with this little piece done in Fireworks. As this is clearly inspired by one particular cutscene in the game, I recommend not clicking the spoiler unless you have finished the game already.

I must ask you since those were very inspiring,
would it be ok if I used those two as reference and created perhaps desktop images?

I would ofcourse give you full credit for the poses and the obvious inspiration!

My "official" work with Nifflas is more or less over,
the payment has already been set, so I wouldn't make money out of drawing more,
which is why I can't give you money as compensation either,
I just thought I could join you as a Fan artist aswell...!

Of course Charlotte, go ahead. :)

The thought that a real artist could be inspired by my fan-art is both flattering and motivating - a reward in itself!  C)

I'd love to see what you'll come up with, and I'm sure I will, one way or another. (DA, Twitter, YouTube - check. I'm stalking you! :P )

Would be nice to do a big fan-art collab sometime too.

Ahhh, of course! To be honest, though, on my first playthrough, I thought they were little one-eyed balls with legs, rather than side-on birds. I couldn't make out the beaks, but I spotted it just then when I went back to check. Cool!

Wendy, that looks wonderful indeed! :)

Her face conveys nobility and strength; her eyes and lips show kindness, and the overall composition reminds me of that famous portrait of Nefertiti sans the crown.

Very much looking forward to the completed version! ;)

Absolutely gorgeous. Those collarbones are very anatomically correct.
And for once, she has her cap taken off!
One hard thing when drawing Saira, for me,
was the fact that, yes, she is attractive in her own way... But very much in her own way.

Neither does she seem to pay her own beauty much mind
and the cap is really her trademark.
I've actually taken her hat of in one or two of my drawings,
the excuse being she is washing her hair (in tears) or have had the hat stolen (by a creatur made of flem) and is retreiving it...
This is is a beautiful rendering of Saira,
I'd love to see more.
Any photo as reference?
I wish Nifflas would've chosen someone for me to have as reference,
but, alas, he didn't. Thus her features differ a bit from piece to piece,
the main thing defining her being her colours and equipment.

One more thing, is that the outcome is very different when you have her skin the properly dark brown and the hair jet black. I felt there was always a tremendous difference when lineart was coloured,
more than usual for my lineart.
One tip is that Nifflas has described her eyes as pitch black.
They might shine a lot, you know, catch a lot of light,
but there really is no colour or hue at all that visibly separates pupil from iris.
And its not really a braid as much as it is a ponytail, her hair.
And the last guideline I can recall atm is
that she is about 170 cm.

This beauty makes me think a lot about Sairas sister, the one in the carcrash.
She is up until the carcrash leading a more conventional life on Mars, from what I've gathered from the game,
while Saira took her saucer and went exploring outer space.

You can! So much of art is just practice, practice, practice... it's all about how much time you invest, and not nearly so much about any inborn "skill" or "talent." If you work at it you can always get there. :)

On looking over my shoulder -- I'm investigating screencasting software at present so I can show you the painting process on YouTube. You'll be able to see that, at least!  :^^:

I'm so glad you picked up on the Nefertiti influence! After seeing Beomene's official art, I was strongly reminded of that bust -- it's one of the most elegant pieces of art I've ever seen, and I picture Saira as having a similar grace and poise.  Thanks for the kind words and lovely analysis!  C)

Thank you very much for the "official" details about her appearance, as well as for your kind words -- it means a lot coming from the official artist of Saira (and your work is so beautiful)! Those details are helpful, as I was just wondering what color to paint her eyes and what the "canon" hairstyle was (I may have made it curlier than was expected, but I LOVE CURLY HAIR <3). And yes, there's going to be a huge difference between painted and linework. :D

As for references, I looked at the aforementioned Nefertiti bust, and I GIS'ed a lot of different Indian models trying to get a feel for skin tones. I also looked at your artwork for a while. :) Out of curiosity, what do you use for screencasting? I'm going to try CamStudio and see how that goes, but I've never done this before.  :shocked:

heyheyheyhey I made Saira fanart isn't it cool I used a photo of my sister as reference that's why Saira is wearing a scarf and a coat and a bag instead of a backpack but actually I'd say it's just that Saira changed from her parkour clothes to some more casual stuff because she's on vacation and admiring some creatures out of their natural habitat heh I guess the sandwalker is kinda cold there walking on the snow also the eye is kinda off but it's kinda off in the game too because it's so huge but whatever I can't shut up I'm sorry.

ADORABLE!! I love the more "casual" Saira -- and I can definitely imagine her carrying a bag like that for all her camera-related paraphernalia. This is fantastic; the folds in the coat are lovely and I like the very festive, seasonal environment. :D My favorite detail: The snow edges around the feet of the sandwalker are just like the snow edges ingame on Sekkei.

I can see your passion for the sand walker creature. They're kinda sweet.

Anyway, the encouragement from this thread made me want to do another Saira-related drawing.

First off, imagine what it was like the first time Saira by coincidence entered a small pool of glowing/steaming water.

It was more like I felt totally ignored, but I guess that's just something I have to cope with. I'll try to be less demanding for attention :S.

Thank you, I've always felt pretty confident in drawings like that one. But if I were to try drawing her from a different angle I'd probably fail horrible. Recreation of a certain character never works out well to me.

Yes, I can't really get that idea out of my head.
The thing is I'm moving on to the next project,
and really, its for the livelyhood.

But, yeah, it's a really nice idea. I have the sketches already, they were like made in november,
but I don't wanna draw Juni! I really don't! I want Juni to be in that pixel-shape, and I would most of all want Sara to make that. She told me she wanted to see my idea of Juni, but
bleh,
I think the charm of it would be the two different styles.
Of course, I could just copy her style. *shrug* Somethings off about that scenario.


I was thinking Saira would say "Now say Nifflas!" or something,
perhaps "say mushroom!",
and Juni would look sort of hypnotized by the technologically advanced device.
Sairas camera is kinda large, btw, heavy. Not something small and modern,
but rather something you'd expect to find in the 1970's.

Nah. The machine was very technologically advanced, so she probably wouldn't be shocked by a camera. :P2

The website's great!  C) But is there a bigger picture of Saira washing her hair? I really want to see it more up close, especially the green helmet since you obviously spent a lot of time on it. Maybe upload it to DA if it's too big for that site or something   :^^:

right click and go to "open image", it will open up the original (larger) file.

How much time are you putting in these images? It looks like you drew them in 2 minutes each. Seriously, they look like crap. I understand that you want to post fan art, but its now taking up forumspace that I think could be used for other things better.

Please put some effort in them or refrain yourself from posting them.

Yeah, I added a few things I know, like the scarf and how the shirt is much longer but I drew the thing at 3 in the morning after only playing the demo and away from my computer. :P
