Title: IT Files?
Post by: The stickman on November 25, 2009, 18:45:19
I know that Nifflas  uses IT files instead of OGG files in some of his games, but how can I open them? The best I could find was something that runs on MS-DOS. I've got XP, so no dice. Is there a program or codec that I can get somewhere?

Or wait... can I run MS-DOS programs on XP? Please help.

EDIT: Problem solved graciously by BloxMaster. Survey says: ModPlug Tracker
And XP can run MS-DOS.

ModPlug Tracker Player, XMPlay, many others can open and play .it files. I personally only use those two programs, but I'm sure there are more. :)

Allright, thanks Bloxy. C)

Now how can I edit them?

ModPlug Tracker, LMMS, and again, plenty of others are around. And yea, you can open DOS programs on XP, afaik.

EDIT: Can't be too sure that LMMS can edit .it files, but it does edit similar files, so I mentioned it. X)

If you just want to listen to them, Winamp or Xmplay is perfect. If you want to edit them or see how they were made, Modplug tracker is great.

In case you hadn't find out: I also run the MODPlug Central forums next to this website.

You can find lots about the tracker but also other great content: http://lpchip.com/modplug

Winamp

Winamp's default mod player is really, really awful.  Don't use it unless for some reason none of the other options work.  (There is an add-on for it, but...)

I can't hear any difference between Winamp and XMplay, and I haven't had any problems with it either. What is so bad about it?

Winamp doesn't play IT files very well. Maybe those that don't use much effects play fine, but as soon as effects come into play, winamp screws up.

Does anyone know any program to convert?

I've done that using XMPlay's WAV wirter, and then feeding the .wav file to Ogg Drop - http://nouturn.com/oggdrop/

Or you could get an ogg encoder and use XMPlay to write straight to .ogg instead.
