Title: Mafia Round 6.5 CONFIRMATION

'Ello, citizens of Nifftown, culprits of so much pain and trouble. Are you ready to have some fun? Then enrole in the army! The army... of battling the mafia. Or, wait a minute... Maybe you're the mafia! Find out by posting here. Also featured in this army are several roles. All of you are practically guaranteed a special role! Here's some of them:

Spoiler: some known roles (click to show/hide)

Robot (1 or 2) You are town sided, but when lynched, you may blow up a random person, who you suspect of being mafia.

Sleeper (1) You are town sided, but if the mafia post a certain phrase in the thread, you will be transformed into mafia. You will not know you are a sleeper.

Twins (2) Anything that happens to one, also happens to the other. This could be interesting. Town sided.

Mafia Mad Scientist (1) You will brew a potion that you can come up with, but it can't be too powerful, or else I will step in. This potion can be administered to a person during the night.

Mafia Secret role (1) -*********************************** (You can't know what this person does...)

CIA agent (1 or 2, depending on number of people who join) You may investigate someone at night, but it will be revealed who you investigated due to your horrible surveillance techniques. Town sided.

Town Scientist (1) Brew a potion of your choice that will BENEFIT the town, limits are applicable. Town sided.

Doctor (1) Protects one person at night from death. Town sided.

Tree stump (1) You may declare tree stump at any time you want. Once a tree stump, you can't do anything, but no one can do anything to you, either. Town sided.

Paranoid (1) You are town sided, but if anyone targets you during the night, you kill them.

FBI agent (1) You know the identity of 1 person when you start the game. Townie.

PIE FANATIC (other): You. Want. PIE! You don't know who has it, or where they're keeping it, but you need it!
PIE HOLDER (other): You just got a big pie yesterday from the bakery, and you know that the local pie fanatic, ---- is going to be after it. Hide the pie. ..and try to get ---- killed before yourself.

There are plenty of extra roles I can dish out to, and chances are, no matter what, you'll have a special role. Also, to clear up some confusion: You don't get to pick your roles, all I can tell you is that you will get a power role when they are assigned. Also, if I don't get enough people to join, then some roles WILL be cut.

1. The town may lynch one person during the day by having 50% of them vote for one person.

2. There is no posting in the game thread at night.

3. Players may pm each other at any time during the game.

4. The mafia may kill one person during the night.

5. Have fun!!!

6. If I forgot anything, or if you have any suggestions, post them in this thread, or pm me.

There will also be ITEMS handed out periodically. They are varied and do numerous things, including raising the dead. If you don't get an item throughout the game, you are just plain unlucky, buddy.

Finally, special events WILL happen. Special items that need to be hunted down through PM's, unexpected events, and a whole slew of things brought to you by:

Just kidding, you can read it: the Channel 7 Nifftown news, the host of which has currently... err... been killed due to links with the mafia. So, the news reporter needs to be hired.

Finally, don't be surprised if flying dogs appear from the skies which appear to have been transformed into a giant bowl of soup or some other random thing. THE WORLD IS STRANGE!

For example, your houses have all been transformed into giant soda bottles for no apparent reason. Just kidding!

I'm hoping for as many as possible. Since I want to have everyone have a special role, I'm trying to let people know some of the ones that are available, with the hope that it will peak interest.

Also worth noting: for those who are worried that this won't be a "true" mafia game, it will still have all the normal elements, but a few things will be added to keep up the interest, such as items, handed out at the start of the day, that will give small benefits to the one who has them. Plus, the other MAIN difference is that everyone should have a special role, though I will ensure that it stays balanced.

The roles Mad scientist and Scientist are unfair. They are way too powerful. Unless you draw the line clearly enough, you'll have endless conversations of what is allowed and what isn't. They're pretty idiotic as well. OOH IMA GONNA MAKE A POITON TGHAT MAIX EVERYONE VOTE SIX TIMES LOLOL. To name but one.

Why? Items, in my opinion, serve no actual purpose, especially in making the game more interesting. Either you have a simple random giving out of items, but that would quickly make things chaotic or you have a system, like some kind of item shop, which would be less chaotic but way more complex and eventually just as unpredictable, unplayable and boring.

All these roles, items, random events; they jeopardise the mechanics of the actual core game. If you are going to include all this, I suggest you think over every possible outcome to the various hoops you're going to get us to jump through. Otherwise you'll soon see that the Mafia will stick out (or even be given away by your own antics) or some crazy role will screw the game up completely.

Less is more.

Yeah, I'll be making some major changes. What did I expect, though? I had been looking at a forum with over 4000 members, and at least 16 usually played mafia, and their random games were awesome. Also, I've decided that any potions (if I end up including them) will be designed by me and will be EXTREMELY weak. Also, as for items, an occasional one will be handed out, but not very many...but maybe I'll throw in a twist. If we had a lot more people, we'd be able to do a lot more. Though, it seems to me that Mafia games on this forum have been losing interest anyway...

Well. Behaviour in the thread, stumbles a mafia makes, jumping on bandwagons but never making a proper case against suspects... all these things could help weed out a mafia player during the first day.
It is unwise to dismiss Day 1 as inevitably futile, based on the assertion that mafia can be found only randomly on Day 1. Also remember, that even if we do lynch a townie, Day 1 can give all sorts of background information about players, their actions, the way they react. Of course, this knowledge can be implemented all the better Day 2 and later, but Day 1 is by no means futile, if you are insinuating it is.

Indeed. Looking at the general game behaviour all the players display, in an effort to promote better ways of playing, such as openness and conversation rather than lynching randomly and relying on night powers is very wise.

As a general note to everybody, I would like to encourage you to ask before voting. One can understand a lot about one's opinions and stances by asking. Furthermore, a question doesn't necessarily have to have good motives! A question could be aimed at a suspect to try and make them contradict themselves or a potential mafia to force them into making mistakes. The most basic question in mafia, from which nearly all other questions stem is: "What do you think about this?".

I can only speak for myself, but it isn't as though Budja or I are trying to change a game which we have no control over. Obviously, Bored wants to hear what's to be said. Y'all don't have to play a game like I'd advise you to. I didn't want to seem imposing, just wanted to say a couple of things. The receiving end can ignore or dismiss. Either'd be fine.

And, at the end of the day, it's the mod who decides the way of the game, neither I nor Budja, PP. Your last post seems to imply that I over-value my own opinion. In fact, I would be the first to recognise my own impotence (as a non-mod) over how the game is set up.

Yes, on retrospect, my earlier post is probably too bashing. I think some constructive criticism can be distilled from it, though.

Bored: Since you think the game will completely change direction, how about you give us a rough idea now that you've considered the various opinions. Then I'll tell you if I'm in.

I'm afraid future details may have to wait a few days...
I JUST found out that I have to go on vacation in 3 hours, just for a weekend. I HATE it when my parents do this to me...
I should be back and posting sometime between Monday and Tuesday, sorry for the huge delay...
Also, Lunar... the game will be a lot more like normal mafia, though, if I can find a way to create balance between everyone having some sort of power role, no matter how small, I will try to do so.
