Title: Good news!
Post by: Nifflas on September 21, 2009, 00:04:44
Me and Tyrone have been talking about Bird Game, and came up with the agreement that I'll release a PC version of the game as soon as I'm done with that, which I'll release to be downloaded over the internet. It won't be free. Now, this game isn't as far away as you might expect, considering that I already got all levels finished, half of the music (plenty of it composed by Yann who composed a lot of the KS music), and most of the sound. I bet I can have it ready to be tested by December or January, but there are some obstacles to overcome, particularily since Multimedia Fusion 2's hardware acceleration is still in beta stage, and I need the HWA SDK to be out to optimize one or two things. Right now, that's the only thing I can imagine being able to delay the release, since it's not something I can control. It's hard for me to know what will have happened to MMF2 during that time, so I make no promises, ok?

Now, after the PC version is out, it's extremely likely that I'll work with Nicalis on this game. Sequel? Expansion? Release for other systems? Even I don't know yet, but we'll find out.

Oh, and if you think that BG is just a new Knytt, think again. I did mention puzzles, and I did mention a camera (and please don't just think "screen shot", you wouldn't expect me to add such a pointless feature, right?). However, I wouldn't want to spoil any of the complex ones, so I'll just show a practice area puzzle here.

What's going on in the left puzzle?

That's not a puzzle, that's just the PDA that you carry with you, it's used to assist you with solving various puzzles, and can be opened while you are solving another puzzle. :)

Now I just opened a random picture in it to show how neat it is that it can be open at the same time as a puzzle, because I don't want to spoil it being in use to solve one.

Oh, and the game connects to the WaDF story, but only a little bit. If you haven't played WaDF, you may not realize it's connected to anything, but if you know the universe, there are many connections that you might see :D

That makes it also in the same universe as Knytt? Not that that really has much effect seeing as Knytt had next to no connection with WaDF. Still though, this looks really, really good. Can't wait for it to come out!

Also, Nurykabe wrote some of the best tracks on the Knytt Stories soundtrack so to hear that he's composing for BG is great news! Will there be any Nifflas tracks too?

which I'll release to be downloaded over the internet. It won't be free.
Is this reffering to the fact that we'll have to pay to download it?...I hope not :]

It won't be free. We have known that for quiet some time now.
I also think Nifflas have said he won't make any more free games. Ever.
However, I think that's good. I don't mind paying a small price for his quality games, and he deserves to earn something on what he is doing.

There will be a demo version of the game, but it will contain a rather large portion of it (you'll at least be able to trigger two of the endings), so it won't be like one of those demos that gives you nothing. However, you will have to buy the full version using either your credit card or paypal. It will be priced like similar indie games, I'm thinking $10-$20.

Please just remember that I charge for it because if I can get money from my game development, I can also allocate more time to do it since it's a great passion for me. If I'd make no money from game development, I'd sooner or later have to get a full time work to support myself, and then I wouldn't have time to do this very much any longer. I'm a very social person and need my hours off work to spend with friends, so time allocation is important for my game development!

That's a good plan you have there, I will pay for a good game from you but please don't overburden your mind with worries over logistics, sequels and expansions. Deliver your vision fresh and focused and we'll buy.
