Me and Yann (previously used the name Nurykabe on the forums) created this game for the No More Sweden 2009 competition! One of our "themes" that we were assigned is "Bootleg", hence the game title. It has nothing to do with the actual R-Type though. Enjoy (http://www.ni2.se/files/games/R-Type3141592653589793238469.zip)!

The name is probably a copyright infringement, so I hope nothing bad will happen. Then of course, we couldn't make the entry fit into the "Bootleg" theme while still being legitime.

Is 3.141592653589793238469 supposed to be pi with the 21 first decimals? In that case, it's 3.141592653589793238462. A 2 at the end, not a 9. And if it's supposed to be pi in 21 decimals, it's 3.141592653589793238463, a 6 comes after the 2 so you gotta round that up to a 3.

We're not after an approximation of pi here. In the spirit of the game, we're after the number 3.141592653589793238469, that's something different! By this reason, if you should never refer to the game as "R-Type pi" (although "R-Type almost pi" is acceptable).

(Besides, the 9 might have something to do with a clue about how to use the impulse charge)

I think this game its a parody to games where you must do alot of things:

• Hints are kinda useless
• Some of the things dont have sense like "Use Waterkey" or "Press Alt+F4
• At the start it says that you will fight with "The tiger" but never appear
• Stadictics bar goes off screen
• If you lose by not touching A-S the game will restart in 8 minutes, that is kinda too much

Also I think I saw the word "walrus" in one of the little messages that flash across the screen as the scores "load".

I don't get what's so weird about the game! All you really have to do is to use the Boost button as much as possible to gather the powerups, get EXP points, level up to a LVL 46 TOOTHPICK GODESS, then suicide your way back to level 15, then just use the impulse charges and plasma gun like crazy! That way, you'll get enough points to unlock the 3D mode! Press 8 a lot!

That was just as random as the game itself. There is no powerups or EXP. There is absolutely no 3D mode. You instantly lose if you press 8.

I don't think it's a parody so much as something new; though it does have elements parodying R-Type, they're hardly R-Type-exclusive elements. (Beyond the basic shooter setup, I didn't see anything very R-Type-y about it.) (You Have to Burn the Rope isn't really parody either- it's funny, but it doesn't really make fun of anything in particular.)

This game is hardly a game. It's more an experience of massive confusion.

We wanted to win the subliminal message category at the NMS compo, which we did! The messages are stuff like "Eat food or you may die", "Breathe air". That way, there's no way you can say the messages didn't work!

I got the green, red and silver staves, but I think there's one missing.
Can I get to lvl 34-Vermillion with these staves and the powercharge only, or am I missing something?

If you combine the puppy and the russian doll, you get a mini-game at the end of which a cutscene reveals that she is in fact male!

Go through the door of doom's mail slot, then answer its riddle correctly (I'm not sure if it changes randomly or not, my question was "How much does the average sloth weigh", but it might be different to everyone) then shoot at the lawyer as he eats his oatmeal (he was already doing this by the time I get there, but I suppose if he's not done fixing it yet, you can wait behind the potted plant) and before he can fight back knock down a plate on his head. Not sure if turning on the TV will change the ending you get, but I didn't.

Really superb game, Nifflas. Great detail. I'm curious, though,

How can I save the target child in time to diffuse the bomb? Maybe I missed a powerup somewher, but it just seems impossible since I lost my duplicator in the negative mode.

if you can do all chess key commands within a second, you unlock a positive charge, knocking asteroids into the epsilon belt and if you can repel them to all pi angles, you unlock the quantanium trapezoid radar! this unlocks the lambda belt for asteroids in which to can do all E angles. I got a checkpoint here and I'll keep you posted ;)

Flip the board around, to trick the computer into thinking you have it in checkmate. You'll need to set up some sort of distraction first, though.

When you see the asteroid shaped as a chicken nugget, you press s-s-s-a-a-a-s-s-s-a-a-a-a-s as fast as you can. Then a duck will pop up. Feed the chicken nugget to the duck, and it will open the door for you. Simple!

, you can get the positive charge. Knocking the asteroids into the Sigma belt will cause total deflection. you can then deflect the bee right into the zeta belt.

you're probably talking about the quantum gamma belt which turns the asteroids into cheese? similar to that of WADF, and if i'm not mistaken, I could probably compare the two.

Haha, this game is class. On the third time I just mashed buttons. Everything was fine until the 'Door of Terror' turned up :/. Thankfully it disappeared and I got some awesome stats. Whether that means I 'finished' the game or whether it's just a random thing I don't know.

All you really have to do is to use the Boost button as much as possible to gather the powerups, get EXP points, level up to a LVL 46 TOOTHPICK GODESS, then suicide your way back to level 15, then just use the impulse charges and plasma gun like crazy! That way, you'll get enough points to unlock the 3D mode! Press 8 a lot!

This was the first part where any weird posts were done. Nifflas DID start it.

Oh, and I've never seen negative mode, but I have gotten to the door of terror. What am I missing there?

It seems I can't play this. I've got the sound, but I just see a black screen. That's probably because I'm on Parallels desktop for macintosh, but all other Nifflas games worked fine for me.

This game wouldn't be fun without the supposedly "fake" descriptions, impulse charge, the 8 key, AtESE drums, the overly complicated level system, and the giant bee with laser eyes.

8 key is fine. When you press it the first time, it's a bit creepy, but easy to avoid the next time.

Yes there is. Its in a hidden room on the fifth floor in the mansion where you are supposed to scare away the fish from the Chinese furniture power up. Its awesome. :D

What's with the random target reticule? And what's with the random spheres with letters on them? For some reason i can't get them (or is this there something wrong with the game i downloaded?)

I believe the point of these random things is that they are in fact random.

you get the best ending by pressing the boost button together with m, z, alt, f4, and the key for any bubbles with letters that appear, all at the same exact instant in time. I've done it. once. After this combo, you must eat food (or you will die) and activate the hyper-boost shield. Then, it's a simple matter of hitting the door of terror's mail slot with your new plasma-ion cannon.

the intro rules state that you press the 'Boost' button to collect powerups. Does this button exist because i just don't see it (or is it something sinisterly obvious?) also, it would be nice if someone could post a vid/guide to passing the door of doom (or was it terror?)

Alt + F4 is the Windows shortcut to close an application, that's why the game crashes with that combo. xP
That information is wrong.

Edit: In fact I guess I'm going to lock this. This thread has been little more than random, useless and misleading suff for about 5 pages.
