Title: [Environmental/easy; small] Jumping in the Rain
Post by: Hmpf on July 16, 2009, 02:25:37
Sooooo... this started out as me playing around with the standard tilesets, to get a feel for how to use them, and how to work with layers and so on. It wasn't really intended to become a level in its own right. But tonight I noticed that, really, it was only lacking a couple more screens to become a nice enough, though thoroughly unspectacular small environmental. And since tonight I felt like finishing something I added a few screens, and hey presto, here it is. Don't expect much - this is just a total newbie cutting her teeth.

Because I sometimes like to impose artificial restrictions on myself when doing something creative, I made some rules for my screens here. They were:

1.) Use only more or less nature-themed tilesets.
2.) Use only one tileset per screen.
3.) Make only one screen per tileset (with one big exception).
4.) Every island - the walkable part, anyway - begins at x3y8 and ends at x21y8.
5.) There is a savepoint at x12y7 on every island.

It's another rain-themed level because, well, I love KS rain.  C)p

(Yep, I know that's technically the waterfall object and not the rain object. Well, we're talking really heavy rain here....)

ETA: Found, and fixed, an SGE and a void. I've already uploaded the fixed version.

I like this level, it is very pretty and it flows nicely. Good job.

Thanks. Well, I would hope it flows well - there's certainly enough water in it! ;-)

(BTW, I found and fixed two minor problems, so feel free to download the fixed version.)

Oh, come on. Dark Waters is gorgeous. Sunset is pretty nice, too. But, thanks. :-)

(Yes, I *was* going to give feedback. It's just that I only played your levels very recently, so I haven't gotten around to it yet.)

Nice! Way better aesthetically than I believe I can do...

Arrrgh! Found, and fixed, two more SGEs and a couple more voids. I keep underestimating how far you can jump with the double jump thingy...

I really do hope that those were the last errors. I know there's another SGE on the 'anti alias' island, but that's an unavoidable one (had to put one ground tile on layer 2 to be able to put the tree top in front).

Off to bed now... half past three a.m. here...

Some pepole put things on Layer 3 overlaping the walkabe ground, they can fix it with invisible tiles (16,13 or preferably 16,14) ;)

Seriously? Because I just found and fixed one 3 screens *left* of the start... Checked 3 screens right as well, to make sure, and didn't find any there...

Heh. Why didn't I think of this?! I've actually *used* this in my other level... Note to self: don't work on or post levels when you're braindead from work.

Thanks, and fixed. :-)

Yeah, sorry about that. My webspace got hacked and I deleted my websites to make sure I got even the last little bit of potentially dangerous code removed. Will re-upload everything from a backup copy in the next few days.

The level's back (and has been scanned a million times with various anti-virus and anti-malware programs, so it should be safe.)

This was definitely a good start to Knytt Stories for me, and it was a good example of creativity even with just the default tilesets. Great work! PS This was the first level I ever played on Knytt Stories! 8D
