Oh, that's only because we have a lovely woman full of expressive imagination in our midst! C) If it was only up to us cold-rational guys, this could've ended up called "karma_label_v1.101final". :P
What about side account abuse? Can you still give stars for things like Paula receiving one for being a girl?
6 hours is not enough, make it a week. That way when people give a star it's really sincere and not for nothing.Nah. We carefully weighted how much time it takes. If someone makes several good posts in a row, that person would get punished because of a long wait time.

Punished? Weird way to put it. You're also implying that people would make good posts on the sole basis of getting stars for it.
I still think 6 hours is too short time. I think a lot of people will give out stars like nothing because they can.
There will be a thing, give out 1 or 2 stars every day and since this forum isn't that active it will not work people will just be sitting on a lot of stars that don't mean anything in the end.
And I don't think this is good for the forum in any way other than some people will make a competition out of it. I think that will do more harm than good. Since it will work as some sort of value system, when you don't get stars you will feel worthless and maybe leave forum. For a forum administration that carefully weight everything you don't take many things into consideration.
You're also implying that people would make good posts on the sole basis of getting stars for it.I don't think what the problem is with that. after all, we do want people to post stuff with great content. so encouraging them to do so is quite precisely the whole purpose of this new system.
I think a lot of people will give out stars like nothing because they can.actually, I wish they would. ;) meaning to say that the system is not exactly horribly actively used, so really there is no problem with any sort of star-spamming so far.
Is there a way for us to know where hidden stars come from and why? Since they're called "hidden stars" it only seems appropriate that they be anonymous by default, but I'd like to know their origins. I've seen only a few open award givings so far. I imagine we're going through a period of stars being awarded for past accomplishments, and it would be a poor idea to resurrect dead threads just for hidden star issues. I think there should be a thread where our reasons for giving hidden stars can be exposed. (e.g. I award an HS to Miss Paula for being a female.)
Also, I've accumulated a few stars myself --for reasons unknown-- and I was wondering where one might look for hidden forums once one has gathered enough luminosity to see them.

Love the idea and implementation. It's just I see a slight misfortune for former forum-goers.

I think he meant people who used to keep count of their stars before this was implemented.Love the idea and implementation. It's just I see a slight misfortune for former forum-goers.

If someone goes, its their decision. If they return and not use their old nick, well... We can't really do anything about that.
So thats up to them. I doubt someone will care for their stars if they decide to leave though...

Once you have a handful of the shiny stuff, good things will happen. Rumors go about a couple of hidden forums, no topic restrictions, ...

Yeah for insensitives!Check-spell mistake? :P
A stars suggestion! It would be great if it were possible to see stars given in addition to stars received.
Why would you want to see which stars you gave? I mean, you gave them didn't you? Do you want to check upon yourself, or do you feel your account has been compromised and you are worried that someone is giving out stars in your name?

Can you remember every star you've given? I know I can't. I'd also like to see how my giving rate compares to my getting rate, or if there are users I unconsciously favour, stuff like that!
Unfortunately SMF is not that powerfull. It normally just gives you the ability to thumbs up or down a post and it doesn't even keep track of where it was. I had to hack in the functionality so we can see where a karma was given. So anything like an undo is not possible. The ability to track down where it was given to prevent giving another one is not possible either.Oh I see.
Adding that you can see which ones you gave is, but since I have to add this to the script and my time is limited, I need a good reason.
I've been giving fairly more stars than been given. (English language can be fun sometimes).*than has been given to me. :^^::^^::P2;):shifty:
My gives also outweigh my gets... which means someone's gotta be hoarding stars.*covers up his stash*
