Title: Looking for some new levels (nothing too hard)
Post by: starfang42 on October 26, 2009, 07:14:10
I'd say no harder than a strange dream on its hard setting, and that was stretching my patience.
...
Actually it's probably better to just say I don't really like twitch gameplay (you know, one errant twitch, and POOF!). puzzles are cool though.

ones I've played and really liked so far
Don't eat the mushroom
The Great Race
Harvest
Knytt on the Moon
Riku Island
The original level and expansions on the main website (though gustav's daughter was a bit hard for my tastes)
a walk at night
colours
most of googoogjoob's stuff
A walk at night

I've also played explore challenge, which was reasonably cool.
Environmental, Plot, and especially strange/weird/funny plots seem to be what I like right now.

Thanks!

Try my level, Fear (link to thread in userbar "evil"). It's a short environmental that uses psuedo-isometricism.

Hard is fun. Try Spiral.

Oil (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1235.0) and Dungeon (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1885.0) are both great levels.
Also, I dare say Lost in the storm (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=331.0) is not so bad either. :P

Far be it from me to avoid a shameless plug, especially when my levels fit your criteria so nicely. :D

Outer Reaches (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1327.0). My first level, featuring 300+ screens, plus 15 secret screens. (Environmental)
Darkness (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1377.0). My second level, which has an extremely vague and unimportant plot. (Environmental)

Then there's

And make sure to play Gaia. If you're a fan of environmental levels, there's no excuse for not playing it, as it's commonly seen as the granddaddy of them all.

In addition to the ones already mentioned (thanks for the rec of Jumping, PYP!), here's a few more levels I've liked:

Caverns: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=940.0 - gloriously large environmental/playground
A Black Comedy: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1421.0 - very odd and funny
Mashu Prapa: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum2/index.php?topic=7863.0 - green!
Another Journey: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum2/index.php?topic=5902.0 - I prefer this to Knytt on the Moon
Temple of the Sun: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum2/index.php?topic=1483.0 - a nicely tuned and polished challenge level with its own visual identity
The Oubliette http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum2/index.php?topic=1836.0 - minimalist, kind of tricky, stylish... (anything by dessgeega is worth your time, btw)

ETA: I forgot to mention Frozen Forest: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1743.0 - a small and pretty environmental.

Plus - since others have recced their own stuff, too, there's my big work in progress, Falling Water, which is basically a tribute to all my favourite tilesets and a declaration of love for the rain and waterfall and cats objects:

Preview thread: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1258.0
Download thread for the first part of what will probably be a three to four part series: http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1603.0

Haven't made any progress in the last few weeks because Real Life got busy, but it's far from abandoned.

Holy crud, we have completely forgotten about gaia.

There is no topic for it on this forum though, which is kind of sad.

[shamelessselfpromotion]Perhaps you'd like Medius (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1168.0)? Or maybe A Few Problems (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=565.0)?[/shamelessselfpromotion]

All good so far guys. Thanks!

Can't wait for falling water's next release. That first part was awesome.

Keep 'em coming, especially if they're odd or have an odd plot.

I only just saw this - thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I really hope there'll be some time to work on the next part in the next few weeks, though I'm afraid that *may* have to wait until mid-December. :-(
