I just started a Gravity Falls game jam over at Glorious Trainwrecks, and you're all invited! It's to celebrate the series finale on Monday. What's it about, you might ask?

Quote
As you may or may not know, Gravity Falls is an animated show about two twins roughing it up at the great uncle's roadside attraction for the summer, and deals mostly in MYSTERIES, MOOSTERIES, MASTERIES, and MOISTERIES. As such, games can include A CENTRAL MYSTERY, CYPHERS, PUZZLES, SYMBOLS, and other WEIRD JUNK.

But of course the above is only a small sampling of the wonders of Gravity Falls! Your game can also include:

  • FAMILY
  • FRIENDS
  • FRIENDS b/w FAMILY
  • PIGS
  • GOOFY SWEATERS
  • COMEDY (especially COMEDY BASED AROUND BEING A JERK)
  • CRAZY SCHEMES/SCAMS
  • the beautiful Pacific Northwest landscape
  • ANNOYING SCHEDULING
  • GAY COPS??
  • and WACKY FAKE TV

And that's just for a start! Whatever you feel fits in with Gravity Falls is fair game. Have lots of fun, and remember: BUY GOLD!

Go tell Sergio if you can, because I'm sure that he'd like it a lot and I don't know if he still goes here.[/list]

Juni in the Haunted House was a level I started back in 2010. I decided to finish it for Knytt of the Month Klub #9, but went two days into overtime.

Anyway, in it, you explore a haunted house to find secrets (mostly keys and the like). It's a sort of experimental level, and I'm not quite sure if it works. Has 4 endings and a bonus room. Please let me know of any bugs; it's a pretty complicated level and I didn't test it as thoroughly as I could have.

Knytt Stories - Custom Content / Help with Toasty Fields
« on: August 11, 2015, 20:51:09 »
Currently I'm using a Community Tileset in one of my levels, specifically Toasty Fields. However, I'm having issues using the tree house in it. No matter what I do, I can't get the bottom to match up with the top leaves. Here are two different attempts; neither of them look right. Can anybody lend me a hand here?

Knytt Stories - Custom Content / Cat custom objects?
« on: August 02, 2015, 22:37:49 »
Does anybody have any edits of the cat objects (Obj 42 and 43 in Bank 3)? I'm mostly just looking for simple palette swaps and the like; heck, even a cat that just faces right would be nice. I would prefer fully animated custom objects, but just a static sprite will do, too.

Dark House is a short level I made while I was making a much larger one. Basically it's a dark maze implemented in Knytt Stories. There are some secrets to find, including one that may be rather hard to get. (If you get too frustrated with it, you have my permission to look it up in the editor.) Music is by Kevin "incompetech" MacLeod. (No screens.)

EDIT: Whoops, forgot the level! Here you go! (This isn't even the first time this has happened.)

Knytt Stories Level Editing Support / Good high jump challenges
« on: July 25, 2015, 22:44:07 »
I'm making a challenge level where the player starts off with run and high jump (no climb), and I'm trying to think of good challenges that take advantage of it. I guess I'm so used to the player having climb that I've got a bit of a mental block about this. Does anyone have any ideas for high jump challenges? Examples would be fine, too.

If you can access the secret boards, you may have seen this level in an earlier form, but now the final version is out!

Some background: I donated a custom Knytt Stories level to Spring Thing this year, and now, a few months after the comp finished, the level is done. Special thanks to B Minus Seven for picking the prize!

Anyway, At the Zoo is about Juni searching for her friends at, well, the zoo. It's a pretty short piece (only twenty screens) and there are no challenging bits. Instead it's focused around atmosphere and little overheard snatches of dialogue. Give it a try, I bet you'll like it!

(Music is a shortened version of this track.)

Download the level here, or here at Knytt Levels!

Here's a gloomy little game I just put the finishing touches on. It's very short, won't take more than five minutes to play. You can download it here. (Remember that you can enter doors by pressing down!)

Hi, guys! I made a new level about Juni going to her grandmother's house. It's about 30 screens big, jam-packed with fun and surprises. The main tune is the theme from Two-Headed Dino, by Ben Bartlett, and the music in the first few screens is Mellotron, by Incompotech. Tested by Sergio and Ultigonio.

Waiting in the Rain is based on the song of the same name by Lee Rosevere. (And yes, this is from the same album I recommended in Talps's Dragon Myth thread. Sorry, Talps, I just couldn't help myself  X) )

Anyway, this is a story about going to a friend's place for dinner. It's very short, under ten screens, so keep that in mind before you play. You can download it here.

I'm working on a level that takes place in a computer, and I'm looking for tilesets that give off a digital feel, or at least a mechanical one. I've got my eye on some of the "pixel" tilesets that come with Knytt Stories, but are there any other good mechanical or "computer-y" tilesets I could use?

Development Showcase / New Twine game: Beneath the Mossy Stone
« on: July 02, 2014, 00:19:53 »
I entered a game in the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest called Beneath the Mossy Stone. It's a Twine game, and you can play it in your browser. It's a short, traditional Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, and it's heavily inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll and movies like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I estimate getting all the endings shouldn't take longer than 5-10 minutes, depending on reading speed, so if you're looking for a short game to play on your lunch break, why not give Beneath the Mossy Stone a try?

Please let me know if you come across any issues playing the game, and if you like it, please consider registering on the Indie Game Maker Contest website and voting for it in the Viewers' Choice Awards! Feel free to check out some of the other games made in the contest as well; I hear good things about Unraveled in particular.

Knytt Stories - Custom Content / Urban Tilesets?
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:16:44 »
I'm making a level based in a shady underground city, and would really like some urban tilesets to use for it. In particular, I'm looking for any city tilesets with a bit of grit to them, like, say, Arcturus's Nowhere tileset, only not so gloomy. I'm already using Egomassive's tileset based on Nowhere; can anybody think of any other good city tilesets?

I am working on a level for Talps' Christmas level competition, but since it looks like I won't be able to finish it by Christmas, I thought I'd showcase some small levels I made that I haven't talked about here as a kind of... stocking stuffer, I guess?

Anyway, first off is Wreck Christmas, which is the latest of all the levels showcased here. It's a kind of semi-sequel to the earlier A Very Knytt Christmas, sort of? I made it because I was feeling a lot of anxiety, some of it related to the holidays, but most of it just concurrent to them. I finished it in January for the GDC Pirate Kart, when I was still anxious about stuff. Content Warning: Some mild swearing and an awful song.

Second, we have the very first and second levels I ever completed, Juni's Winter Wonderland (Knytt Levels link) and In the Subway (Knytt Levels link), respectively. I think In the Subway is the better game here, but I do like some of the screens I made for Juni's Winter Wonderland, like the some of the town scenes, and the very last screen. (If you're wondering about the filename for In the Subway, I had originally conceived it as a very different game, a pure challenge level with a disco backing track. But I was very inexperienced at the time and couldn't pull it off, plus I couldn't find an appropriate disco track.)

Last and least, we have Thankshiving (Knytt Levels link), which is probably the shortest level here. It's also the only one to have any challenges in it, but as it's a silly joke game it's still pretty easy. I've thought about making a sequel to it one day, but I couldn't think of where else to take it.
Actually, now that I think about it, Thankshiving 2: Christmas Boogaloo would make an excellent title. And I could probably finish it in a few hours and release it late tomorrow for Talps' competition. Hmmmm...

Anyway, hope you enjoy these, and have a happy holiday!

Or rather, which kind of shift is the closest in shape to a power-up?

Let me explain. I wanted a house with a ghost in it to talk after the player got the ghost eye, and because using signs in an empty house looks weird, I needed to use flag warps for it. At first I used a square shift because I wanted to make extra sure the player triggered it when they got the ghost eye, but later I realized that it worked a little too well, and it was possible to trigger the shift without getting the eye. So now I'm using a circle shift. However, I'm not sure it's impossible to trigger one without the other here, either. So what kind of shift would work best here?
