Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Challenge][Normal][Small] Petrichor
« on: December 25, 2013, 19:27:17 »
so about a year ago i was working on a few levels, including oppun, which i previewed here & got some v. nice feedback, much appreciated, thank you!, but, all that went to shit as my computer completely collapsed and i lost everything. but once again winter strikes & once again i get the urge to knytt.

this will be a short level, based around the one custom tileset & a simple narrative-fragment of an idea. custom objects include water & various junis.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Challenge][Easy/Normal][Small] Oppun
« on: January 25, 2013, 18:11:57 »
hello,

after a long pause i recently got back into level-making and am working on about three different things. oppun is the one i'm mostly likely to finish. it's a bit of a mix between the two levels i've made so far, "oriante" and "ayo"; sci fi pessimistic scenario and darker atmosphere. i'm posting mostly to force myself to actually finish it and put it up eventually; i think the external pressure of people seeing something of it might help me not get completely distracted from finishing it.

it features the one custom tileset by myself so far and will be a light challenge level and short, still need to start working on a few custom objects. would appreciate feedback on the screens as well as any thoughts on where to find music; i'm hoping for simple heavy ambient loops, something "ascension"-like maybe. would be grateful for any thoughts.

Ayo is a very short, very linear environmental that's not particularly beautiful or pleasant.

Download it here.

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [Normal/Hard], [Misc] - Oriante

Oriante [download] is a small level about Juni leaving the strange place she's in. You can play by day or by night and you learn as much about the world as you want.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the level preview thread (which has some more info on it) and to Widget and Headgrinder in particular for testing it and for all their feedback.

I hope you enjoy it! I enjoied making it. And I appreciate feedback.

Knytt Stories - Custom Content / My first tileset
« on: December 22, 2010, 04:15:00 »
So, I've been slowly putting together my first knytt level. It's solely public, preset tilesets, but I've been thinking about trying to make my own. So I did this in a few hours today as an experiment; it's part of another level idea, but I don't think I'll be getting to it that soon, so here it is. It was mostly a technical/skill experiment (building blocks, figuring transparency out -- and something like my fourth attempt at [very basic] pixel art...). I'd like to know what people think regardless. :)

Knytt Stories / Old forum, Old stories
« on: December 07, 2010, 13:53:03 »
Now I may have gotten this wrong but I keep coming across 1) references to an old Nifflas board that crashed?/was closed? and 2) Knytt Stories that were posted that were lost when the board was closed. Can someone explain it to me? What happened to the forum? What was different from this one? Are there stories that were permanently lost? Or are they all on the Archive?

I'd also like to better understand what the plans for the archive are but I guess I can ask that elsewhere; I'm mostly curious about the recent history of this place and the games on it, or no longer on it -- especially since I'm trying to play through as many delicious levels as possible.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Misc/Normal] Oriante

So, I've played around with the editor a couple of times before, I had a level I really enjoyed mapped out a few months ago but my computer lost it. This level started as an environmental experiment - very bare (it's currently at three tilesets, all by Nifflas himself) - and I've gone on adding more and more challenge elements gradually. Very simple ones - regular enemies, no puzzles -, and in specific spots.

It's at twenty screens right now, and it probably won't grow far far beyond that number. I've only used common tilesets - the same happened to me when doing this one that happened with my previous experiments: I'm more drawn to playing around with the familiar formula and trying it to explore it fully than going for customized content, especially since I can't do pixel art to save my life.

Ed. gave it a simple title. The plot? Juni has to leave.

It shouldn't take much more to complete, and right now I'm mostly posting to ask for opinions on some screens done so far. Are they just too derivative and unimaginative? Any suggestions?
