Title: Custom Objects are not dead!
Post by: SiamJai on May 29, 2009, 15:01:57
... even if they seem like so.  X)

I remember the eager anticipation each time I logged into the old forums, to see what clever animations were uploaded that day. That vibrant custom objects scene faded into nothing since the new forums began. Unlike level makers who have a temporary forum to tide them over until the level archive becomes complete, tileset-makers and animators are left with nothing but waiting.

I would like to have the CO scene resurrected here, but I understand and respect the staff's decision and busy schedule. So, instead of nagging them with yet another temporary board request, I've made a permanent one over at TW Design.

This new CO forum (http://thaiwonders.com/design/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=184&board=15.0) could be a place where we can post our custom objects, make and take requests, discuss animations, ask and answer questions about COs and about animation in general. If that sounds good, head over there and take a look. I've got my old stuff posted already, along with a few new ones and tutorials I've kept making since the old forums closed.

So let's take some pressure off LPChip's shoulder, and alleviate our boredom at the same time. ;)

Yay! I can't help but feel it'd have been more efficient as a board in the unofficial nifflas off-topic forum (http://nofftopic.50.forumer.com/index.php), but that's probably just me ;)

Good job SiamJai!

God am I happy I don't even have any pressure on my shoulders that'd need to be taken off. X-P

Thanks, guys! Let's make it awesome. :)

I believe this is a good idea (although I can only speak for myself, as I do not make CO's), but I am curious as to whether or not you plan on somehow collaborating this with the new knyttlevels.com once it's completed.
Yes, I'm open to collaboration between the two sites. Let's see what our options are, once knyttlevels is complete.

Aren't you a lucky girl... :P

Finally! Someone has made a board instead of asking for one and being told to wait, maybe for months. We need a board for tilesets and gradients, too. Good work!

We even need a board for beta levels.  C)

You had better be joking. By that time, we'll have the archive as an official alternative!

6 months pass by really quickly. Its June 1st
4 months to go~!  :)

can't you post tilesets in the developments showcase?

You're serious?!?! I guess I can forget about that then. And I posted some tilesets in the development showcase awhile ago, and the topic still has no posts. I think they would get far more attention on a board dedicated to them. And If we post tilesets in development showcase, why not just put COs there too?

EDIT: The topic got a few posts, probably because I mentioned it here. XD

Thanks, Dandelion! That was the idea - DIY, you know. ;)

True, one could post COs there too. The good thing about the Dev Showcase is that just about any self-made stuff can be posted there - but it's also a disadvantage, as you have discovered with your tileset topic. Making COs and animations is hard work, and I'd rather have them seen on a board dedicated to COs and animation than to watch them disappear unnoticed in the sea of unrelated creative topics.

You know, I'll probably set up boards for all this on my Unofficial Off-Topic Forum (http://nofftopic.50.forumer.com/index.php). If anyone wants to take the time to set it up instead, PM me and I'll probably give you admin privileges there ;)

EDIT: But you should have experience in administering phpBB3 forums.
