Is there any way to talk to the people I find in the different locations? Like the people in the cloud city and the guy fishing from one cloud to the next? I tried what keys I could think of and nothing seemed to work. Am I missing something, or are they just background?

Also, is there any way to tell what an object I've just picked up does?
