After the forum crash, my connection to Knytt Stories kind of broke off. I got involved with other games and hobbies, and progress on the sequel to this level dropped off (it's not gone for good, just indefinitely suspended). Because this level was rather popular in its day, I decided to re-post it just for old time's sake. There are no custom objects or any of that kind of stuff, and it will most likely not be updated. My original post describing the level was lost with the old forum, so I'll just link to the download so you can experience the level again, or for the first time.

I don't remember this artwork screen. It's beautiful. Is it a photograph with photoshop filters on it, or your own work?

My own work in 3D-editor Bryce, with an oil-painting filter from Paint.NET (as are all the cutscenes in the level  :^^:)

I love this level, too.
This topic was an excuse to go through it once again. I think I had an older version, without that last city past the ruins. Now it's up to date.

This one is a classic. :)

I really don't like this. I can never find where to go, it's impossible to find anything. Not to mention the level is cramped.

I think this is the standard environmental level against which all other environmentals should be compared.

ooh, even i have played this one, but then i didnt like that all areas looked the same and the hard-climbable walls got me angry :P

Im downloading it again to see if i changed..

This is great: I've just discovered Knytt Stories levels look a lot better on my 'real' computer than they do on the notebook I've so far been playing them on, and promptly some of my favourite levels are getting re-released, giving me yet another reason to replay them on my computer! *g*

Riku Island is probably the most beautiful environmental level I've played so far.

I remember this level  :crazy:   

I liked it then and and I like it now..... O_o  BUT!, I can only get the red and purple (I think) keys. Either I have learned better jumping skills or I did not play the old one in the direction that I am going with this... :shocked:

IF anyone knows IF there are 2 more keys, please let me know.

BTW: I SIMPLY  <3 <3 <3 <3 ADORE TREES. The Gentle Sentinels of this Planet. Yes.

I loved this level!  Has beautiful settings and beautiful music - same music as Quincent Cartographer's "A Walk at Night" if I'm not mistaken.  One of my favorites for sure. ;)

I can't play this level. I can download it, but when I go to install it it says that the file is corrupt. Is it something to do with me using KS 1.2? Please help.

Hello again, everyone.

I know many here may not know me or this old level anymore, which is the reason I am doing this. I have stopped work completely on my KS levels, in fact I have not touched them in over a year. So, I suppose you can say I am resigning (finally) from the post of level-maker.

I have dragged Riku Island from the pits of Page 10 to give it one last chance at life, and to show my good faith, I will post a few tilesets and the unfinished level that would have been "The Return to Riku Island". Do with them what you may, but I will not be continuing RTRI in the future. If prompted I will answer questions about  either level (I will not be gone from Nifflas' games, I still love them), but I cannot accept any help or advice on finishing RTRI. In short, here's a parting gift from me to you, use it as you may.

Its sad to hear you're no longer working on KS levels; Riku Island is still one of the most famous and popular levels. Thank you for releasing the unfinished level and the tilesets to public. What is finished here is very beautiful; some of the most beautiful forests I've seen in KS levels! Incredible, inspiring stuff. I don't know if anyone would continue the level in question, but if nobody does, I hope that at least the tilesets will come to good use in other levels.

A good faith attempt to ask if putting it up on the level archive would be okay for them wouldn't hurt. You can always host it on a service like dropbox in the interim.

I think that's an older version though? At least, one of the posts earlier in the thread mentioned it being so.

Before Hmpf came with the version uploaded on yousendit, I knew only the one from level archive. And I must say, that although labyrinth is little confusing, the upside down city is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in KS.

Something told me to pop in again after all this time, and I'm very glad to see there's still an interest in my levels. I noticed there was an issue with MegaUpload being taken down, and I have no experience with the archives, so for anyone still having trouble here's the last release of Riku Island and Return to Riku Island Alpha on MediaFire (fingers crossed) -

Return to Riku Island is still one of my favourite environmentals, even though it's so far from completion :(. Still, they're absolutely brilliant levels.

Actually, can I ask... The night-time forest tilesets in 'Return' specifically say they can't be re-used, whereas the daytime versions of the tilesets don't. Is it ok for others to use your daytime tilesets in their own levels? Do you still stand that people can't use the night time versions? And what about the awesome gradients? Can they be reused or not?

I think I posted these a year or two back, and now I can't remember why I withheld the nighttime versions, so I've attached the full collection of tilesets again. I'd rather the unfinished tilesets not be used, both for posterity's sake and because they'd be of limited utility anyway. As for the gradients, I can't redistribute those as my work alone, the forest scenes were from photographs taken by others and I'm not sure how the permissions stand anymore. Hopefully these will be of use to more recent level makers, it's a much better fate than sitting forgotten on my hard drive forever.

I'm afraid not.  ;) Though I still love this game, I have moved my modding focus more towards Skyrim, and if so inclined you can find my work on skyrim.nexusmods.com under my same name. I may still drop by once in a while, if only just to check up on things.
