Knytt Stories Level Previews / Nano Knytt
« on: September 26, 2012, 11:53:46 »
Here's a level I've been tinkering with for a while. You're a Nano Knytt who invades your enemy's brain to wreak havoc. But since this is the future, the enemy brain is full of all sorts of traps and firewalls.

The game is mostly finished so I'm looking for testers/previewers. If you're interested, send me a private message.

Knytt Stories Level Releases / EndLoop - Need a Quick Beta Tester
« on: September 03, 2012, 08:31:09 »
I've made a small game for the current Knytt Stories Level Competition:

http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1992.msg58410#msg58410

The theme is looping so I've got a few loops in there but the whole thing is quite small - about 15 screens, easy difficulty maze.

I've uploaded the Latest version(Sept 5th, 2012) here:

Is there any way to modify the position of the start/entrance screen for a planet in the Saira editor/ini files?

I've read through the various posts on here and gone through the ini files but can't seem to find anything.

If you move the player sprite, the planet starts on the same screen but without the player there.

Does every level need to start in that middle square? It seems like, in Nifflas' teleporter game, every level entrance is in the vertical and horizontal middle of the planet...

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [Small/Challenge/Hard] Enemy Mine
« on: February 20, 2011, 17:25:13 »
The gameplay was inspired by dessgeega's "The Oubliette." The art is something new, using a rough, colored pencil style.

I'm calling it "hard" because it was hard for me to finish. Maybe I'm just crappy at video games.

Give it a try and let me know.

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [Small Maze Hard] The Sky Garden
« on: February 14, 2011, 00:01:02 »
Recently, I was working on a new way to develop levels. Check out some technical details here.

After a little tinkering, I produced this small level. I think it has a few cool additions to the Knytt gaming style.

I still need some testers (and music recommendations). Send me a message if you want to give it a test.

UPDATE! The game is now available for download:

Knytt Stories / Tileset Optimization - Filling the 600x240 Screen
« on: January 27, 2011, 02:29:54 »
Recently, I was working on a vortex maze design that would require every tile on the 600x240 screen to be unique and playable (level 3 contact layer) . Not easy to do.

This picture shows how you can map the 600x240 playable screen area onto two tilesets. The top rectangle in the picture is the game screen and the bottom two are the tilesets.

This is the only way I can find to fill the entire screen with unique tile squares.

(BTW, in the tilesets shown here, here would be 4 unused tiles that need to be covered or the level editor will reject them)

Knytt Stories Level Previews / Night Shift [Environmental]
« on: November 22, 2010, 04:28:11 »
This is a small environmental that I'm building for the latest level competition. Check out the details here:

http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1992.msg48103#msg48103

The general theme is "isolation." The story is about being alone at night on a university campus, wandering the libraries, and discovering gateways to other dimensions and giant killer death machines. The usual.

One question for the forum. I'm currently using a "Quincent Cartographer - A Walk at Night" tileset.  Any ideas about the usage policy? Of course, I would credit him.

"Key's Curse" is my first game so I went for something small (Things were starting to spiral out of control...I started with 4 screens and ended up with three difficulty levels spanning 57 screens. Now I understand why people have 400+ screens...)

The core idea is that everything is either a lock or a key (or a giant black urchin waiting to kill you). So you need to choose keys in the correct order to open the mega-lock.

Thanks to ultigonio and green.cookie with their wallswim advice and other ideas.

Anyway, here she is. Just copy the url into your browser address bar. It should work...

I'm looking for testers. "Key's Curse" is my first game so I went for something small - only 4 main screens.

The core idea is that everything is either a lock or a key (or a giant black urchin waiting to kill you). So you need to choose keys in the correct order to open the mega-lock.

Since it's my first game, I'm not sure how to classify it (hardness/action/puzzle/whatever).
I'm also looking for advice about playability, music, cutscenes, etc.

I'm hoping to post this game soon. Just looking for a few testers. Anyone interested?

UPDATE: It's done! Things were starting to spiral out of control...I started with 4 screens and ended up with three difficulty levels spanning 57 screens. Now I understand why people have 400+ screens...
