It seems that WaDF doesn't work on Window's Vista. Anyone know of a way to get it to work?
[mod]Changed topic title so that others with the same problem cand find this more easlily.[/mod]

I have Vista, and I've never had problems with WaDF. Make sure that DEP isn't stopping it running.
-
This may be a stupid question but what is DEP?
What I do is I download WADF from the Nifflas site. Then I extract it to my desktop. I click on WADF exe. and this error message pops up "Cannot load ChangeAnim.COX this this object might need an external program or library not yet installed"
can anyone help?
thanks

Google is your friend. ;) (http://www.google.se/search?hl=sv&q=Vista+DEP&btnG=Google-s%C3%B6kning&meta=&aq=f&oq=)

thanks for the suggestion, but the DEP thing didn't help I think it has to do with that error message anyone have any ideas?
-
Does anyone know who I could contact about this error?

NIFFLAS! He can fix everything!

I have Vista, too, and it's working fine for me. Try re-downloading it.

Nifflas can't do more than anyone in this case, because he's bound to the software he's using. But Nifflas cannot fix a problem that only exist on one client pc anyway.

I've tried contacting NIfflas several times but no response. Is there some way I don't know about other than the "Contact" section on the home page? Also I've downloaded it multiple times. I get this problem each time. Where are you all downloading it to? I'm just downloading the zip file to my desktop and then extracting the files straight to the desktop. Or is there another site to download from other than the Nifflas sight?
-
Nifflas is busy. The problem is clearly with Windows Vista (or possibly your computer, since others with Vista have had no trouble running WaDF), rather than with WaDF itself.
Do you have trouble running other MMF games? (EG, Knytt, Knytt Stories.)
-
Nope no problems, Knytt, and Knytt stories run perfectly.
-
I think it's a problem with DEP, as unlikely as it might sound. (Vista does weird, weird things sometimes.)
-
Well I turn off DEP like the suggestion above says, or well I click the link and then the first google page tells you how to do it, and i follow the instructions and it says action completed. Then I redownload and attempt to run WaDF and it still doesn't work

So I tried playing Pteradon, The Turtle Philosopher, and Geoffrey the Fly, and none of them work. But each time the error message I get tells me that a .COX file needs to be installed. Any guesses?

You shouldn't need to install them unless you were trying to open the source, not the complied .exe; this is what puzzles me. I don't even know where you would put the .cox if you were just using the .exe. :/

So I just installed WaDF on my girlfriends computer (which is Vista) and then transferred the files to mine via flash drive. Still doesn't work it still is looking for the ChangeAnim.COX file. I assume I'm doing the same thing that everyone else is doing when they download WaDF. I click on the link provided in the WaDF page on the home site and it automatically has me download the .zip file I extract it using winzip and I try clicking on the .exe and it says I need that file.
-
Also I don't know if this is relevant but on my girlfriends comp, the WaDF icon just says "Within a Deep Forest" but on my computer is says "Within a Deep Forest.exe"
-
So I turned off DEP, turns out when I was doing it before I wasn't restarting my computer. So i turned it off restarted my comp and boom it's working now, thanks so much for all your help!

That just means that you have "Show Extensions of Known File Types" (or whatever it's called in Vista) on.
-
I get the "Cannot load ChangeAnim.COX" problem as well. Could somone suply the file, presumably anyone with a working WADF has the file.

I don't have it, and my WaDF runs fine.

Did you try what the guy said in the post above yours?
-
No, it isn't that you have to have the file to run WaDF.
If you're on Vista, it's probably DEP that's preventing you from playing it.
-
I was running into the same problem on Vista, which was weird because this very same computer is where I used to play WadF with no troubles at all. As suggested, it was the DEP. Disabling it entirely seemed like overkill (Especially considering the command prompt tinkering it wanted from me) so I avoided doing that, but then I found this:
https://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65790-dep-turn-off-programs.html
It's actually pretty easy to target a program to bypass the DEP, and while they say you have to restart your computer at the end, I saw results immediately without having to.
