Title: Pixel Art
Post by: Pumpkinbot on October 10, 2009, 03:35:11
Remember the old Super Nintendo that's now rotting somewhere in your attic? Pixel art is basically recreating that type of art. Pixel by pixel. I'm not very good, but I know Utherdol is and I wouldn't be surprised if there were other pixel artists here. So post away!
Here's mine (all album covers.)

What is this it is not in my attic it is in front of the TV where it can be used.

Also like by definition I think almost anyone who has ever made a KS tileset is a pixel artist.

I'm working on a pixel artsy game right now.

This was my first attempt at pixel art:

Hey pumpkin, I've seen your work before. Nice. wait.. I got some.
Not so great, I don't have much experience in pixelart.

edit: old work.

Elder's Salmoneous' work is quite good! :3

Here's what I have to offer up to the pixel-art table.

There's some concept-y art I did for a game I'm making.

Kasran, I couldn't see your pic in the topic, but when I was going to write this I saw it down in the topic summary. weird...

Um, anyway. I finished my robot today and I'm proud of it. Took approximately 1-2 hours. Very happy with my results.

Edit: oh and, it is made in mspaint, with 4 colors. no wait, 5 colors.

Nice work everyone. Today I try to remake the ghosts from the super Mario series. I tried to make them more spooky then they already are, haha. Well, I might do some more Mario creatures later.

Wow, nice to get a mention, especially since I've been absent for ages. Thanks, Pumpkin.

Unfortunately I don't have aything new to show - my laptop died recently, taking with it all my various works-in-progress. However, here's a small selection of what was on my USB (all old avs).

Even though I have to create lots of 'pixel art' for my games, I seldom create pixel art just for the art. There are however 2 pieces that I created just for the fun of pixelling something.

It's great to see that there are lots of people interested in pixel art though :)

AWESMOE. But the buildings in the first could use some anti-aliasing.

What program do you people make these in?

Is there a filter that makes all your stuff look pixelly? D:

Any program is fine for pixel art, even ms paint to some degree.
There is no pixel art filter. Its hand drawn.

wut? ms paint is perfect for pixelart. No, I mean what else is it good for? Sure it got some downsides and lack many things but it is easy and quick to use. I prefer ms paint for pixelart over many programs like gimp and photoshop.

I use MSpaint to pixel things and then Paint Shop Pro in case I need layering.
Though while making games I just use the MMF 2 default system, spritesheets would be too much of a job.

I always use MS paint, mostly because I'm too lazy to download anything else XD I have gimp but thats only when i need shaders in KS lol

That's good for a first attempt a isometric. I could never do it myself. P: But I do know a few good tutorials.

I wouldn't say mspaint is perfect for pixel art.  Its bare-bones basic interface leaves a little to be desired.  A program I think is perfect for pixel art is GraphicsGale Free Edition (http://graphicsgale-freeedition.software.informer.com/).  The right click is an eye-drop, which I think is an extremely easy and useful tool.  Basically everything else is simple and easy to tweak too.

That's why I like the MMF sprite sheet editor. :)

True (I now use GraphicsGale 'cause Windows 7's Paint is now overly complicated), but I used to make all of my pixel art on MSPaint 'cause it was very easy to use. :)

I say just go with what you're comfortable with, whether it be MSPaint, Gimp, GraphicsGale, etc.

What are those?  I like them, they sort of remind me of crazybones (if you know what those are).  This has a  half-pixel-art-half-by-hand kinda feeling to it.

congratulations Salmoneous you created a new pixel art style :D lol i like those things too, the legless floaty beings that are... what exactly have you named them? anyways :P2

Heres some stuff i made a little while back, some of it isn;t as good as it seems XD

in order from top to bottom:
-Junk bots, idea from childhood sketches
-Hyrule crest... need i say more?
-island in the sky, another childhood sketch
-pixel art people, random ideas for people, i'd animate them but am too lazy XD

New pixel art style?  :) it's just simple pixel art. Thick brush outlining and AA, nothing new with those things. And err... I don't know what they are, just simple doodles with no name.
