Knytt Online Beta thread
« on: October 20, 2009, 22:30:50 »
Hello,

I'm going to release my BETA of Knytt Online in this thread and I'm looking for feedback from you guys so that I can improve some of the bugs and glitches.

Here are some known bugs/glitches that I already know about so there's no point in re-posting them:

- More than 3 players in 1 map stuffs up, sorry about this guys but It will be fixed soon
- I haven't added the Hologram or Umbrella power yet (For the users) So if you see someone floating with no umbrella, don't freak out
- The chat still needs a scroll feature which I haven't added in this version

Link: 4.6mb

(Put the .exe In your Knytt Stories folder)
Remember this is for testing purposes only so I can garantee that there will be bugs and glitches so don't eat me for that.   :)

Post your feedback and the glitches you found in this thread!

I was about to say: some kinda graphic glitch in the lower left part of the window... but I'll keep my mouth shut. Nice chat system.

Now.. I haven't tried it with anyone yet, but if anyone is interested in trying it out with me I'll be in The Machines first maps for the next 30 minutes.

Btw a bug: When I respawn after dying I'm one tile below the save spot and wallswimming.
Creating a bug list instead.

  • #001: When respawning it appears to happen one tile below the save spot.
  • #002: When chatting: using "s" will make you jump when submitting
  • #003: When using another application the program keeps taking input. Jumping and moving etc.
  • #004: Chat is a bit rough edged. Could use some esthetic (?) ...
  • #005: You might want to make the chat box fade out when inactive or whatever. It can get a little irritating when doing stuff in the corner. : /

Do we have to load the same level as someone to play with them?  If so, what's a good level to join, so we can test the multi-playability?

EDIT: Also, how to chat?  This mod could use a read-me.

23 hours. Whatever. Now, then. This looks very good excepting that not all the dots show up on entry, and no one is ever online to play with.
Lurk more.

Yeah I haven't really advertised the beta much. But once it continues to get better I will put it on almost every game forum you can find :D

Dude. Dynamite's been working on this for a good long time. To say, 'oh this is completely unnecessary' is very cruel. Plus, this one is supposed to have many more features.
Lurk more.

Sorry about the drag guys, I've been having some problem with the engine lately. A new version of the Oinc extension is being made, it's called "Lacewing".  :)

This will be wayyyyy more faster, less buggier and less laggier. The problem is that the developer of Lacewing said that it's still in beta and there are still many glitches left in it. I hope to release my next version of the game soon, sorry for keeping you waiting again  :/

Huga, from what I can see, only made it send the x and y coordinates whenever the player moves. So the user's that you can see are pretty much just sprites jumping to the position of where the player is.

In my one I'm actually giving the user sprites you can see as other players their own complete movement. This means that instead of the other Knytt's jumping around to where they're meant to be going, I made it so they walk there. Simple as that. This simple effect looks more smoother  :)
