Hi, all.

A few last-minute glitches popped up that are proving frustrating to fix, so I'm afraid I'm gonna sit this one out after making you all wait an extra few days. I'll be releasing my level separately, probably tomorrow, but I don't want you guys to be held up by me. Unless, of course, I finish absurdly quickly in the next hour before anyone sees this, in which case I'll edit my post to be my submission :P

Everything looks so great! I'm amazed that this competition got so many submissions. (Also, sergiocornaga: Were those farm animals in your Ace Attorney singing a cover of Remplissage Momentané from the original KS soundtrack?)

I've got a level that I'd like to submit, and I think would add a lot to this competition. Unfortunately, I asked a friend of mine to help me out with some audio, and he's stuck away from a computer for a day. I know that there already are a good number of levels submitted, and that there's not much reason to extend the deadline, but I'd really appreciate an extra day or two so that I can get his contribution. Otherwise, prepare your ears for some quality terrible internal mic recordings  :P2

In any case, let me know. Looking forward to the judging!

I can only imagine how long it took you to take all of those photographs of the park!

Really neat effects, though, and nice music. The painted xylophone was clever, but my favorite part was the origami - the folding really worked with the stop-motion style. Thanks for sharing!

I tried using the "Stop Music" function in shifting, but it only temporarily lowers the volume, without triggering a reset.

I'm halfway happy with what I'm using now - the save point is in another room, on top of an instant shift back into the main room. When you die, you return to the side room, where the sound is off, and then teleport to the main room, where it starts over. I'm using an ambient, which doesn't require any time to fade off before resetting from another room. The only problem is a little flickering, but I suppose I should be used to that with any custom object use.

Thanks to LPChip for stopping me from continuing a fruitless effort. Of course, now someone's going to figure out some crazy way and I'll look silly, but never mind that...

Hi, just a quick question -

Is there any way to have music/ambient sound restart when you die? I'm experimenting with spoken narration over a time-based challenge, but when you die and reload in the same room, the audio continues from where it was before. Is there anyway to start the sound file from the beginning besides putting the save point in a different room?

Was their too much text in my introduction? I think splitting it into several scenes with one or two sentences is a lot better than one long screen of text.

I think the amount of text wasn't bad at all - although some of it overlapped with what you learned from the communications, about the opinions of the leaders and all. Creative text placement helped to break it up a little.

By the way, AMAZING LEVEL. I played a little while ago, but haven't posted yet. I thought the variety of challenges was the best part, how each level had a distinct feel to it. I second plural's comment about the shifts, and cite the opening and closing doors. My biggest complaint really isn't a complaint, but an admission of laziness on my part - I found it hard to keep track of the different characters in the past who were writing the logs. A symbol to go with each, or even a different colored font for each person, would have done a lot to help out players there.

Belated congratulations on achieving such a great accomplishment! So what's NEXT...? :P

I thought it would be a shame if this idea died, because I think it's a cool one, so I threw together a drawing based on the "Gun" crossover. My sleep schedule blames you for not one, but TWO archive binges (although I had read Gunnerkrigg Court before), so I hope you like the result. Because there isn't much continuity in Gun Show, I took the visual and humor style from it and combined them with a character from Gunnerkrigg Court.

I don't know if I'm supposed to make the next suggestion, but I will just for the sake of keeping this moving. I'm taking an idea from Thurber's New Natural History: the next artist's challenge is to take a few random words and draw a creature that matches each word. Note that the creature doesn't have to be described by the word: for example, a "Tall" doesn't have to be tall. Just draw whatever your brain spits out first. I'll explain more if this explanation is confusing.

Great fun! My first playthrough, I got the yellow key.

The use of custom content is very strong. The interior tilesets are great, and I love the trees as well, although they can be a bit hard to see against the background. The bamboo is nice, but, once again, sometimes foreground/background is a bit hard to differentiate. My biggest complaint is with the ice mountain tiles - the icicles are very organic, while the walls and corners are completely straight.

There were a few too many challenges for me based around the idea that, if one enemy is fun, then six must be six times as fun. I never cheated, but I was tempted a few times when it seemed that my success was going to be completely luck-based.

I thought the coolest part was how interactive the environment felt, from the setting sun to the really well-done day/night changes. The conversation system and the buttons, probably the most innovative parts, did their jobs well to make the world seem deeper.

I look forward to seeing the finished product! (and the zeeky boogy do- I MEAN talkie scenes)

Very nice! I'm sure you know plenty of things that you would improve, so I'll just note what I liked most about the site. All of the themes are adorable and (I feel) add nicely to the look of the site. Music player is great. The overall layout is very clear, and I never felt confused as to where to find anything. My biggest gripe is that you should have a link to the NiffPage games that aren't included on the Games Page, rather than forcing the reader go to the FAQ.

Congratulations on your achievement! I hope you're graded well.

Granted. However, you can't teleport anything besides yourself and now spend your days teleporting out of jails after being arrested for indecent exposure.

I wish that glue sticks actually stuck to things I wanted them to, and not to my fingers.

I had been hoping to post a review after completing this, but first I had to play Dark Sea 1 (which itself is above my skill level, and took me hundreds of deaths to complete), and now I realize that Dark Sea 2 is even harder, so I can't promise I ever will finish. Granted, this DS1 was the first Knytt Stories level I've played for months, so I'm probably a bit rusty, but I'm in over my head, for sure.

All of the custom content is fantastic. The tilesets are completely professional, and the music does a great job in setting the mood. The save point placement is perfect for me - I never complete some insane challenge only to die right before I get to the save point. Challenges are always creative, and I've only had to refer to a Let's Play twice in order to get a solution. A good combination of physical skill and mental solving. Parts are frustrating, but I should expect that from a lunatic(-ish) level.

Here's hoping I make it through to the end (if I do, I'll add an update to my review)

I'm afraid that the end wasn't debatable, but I do hope that the ending gives a good sense of closure.

If you want to see the end, I recommend starting a few days before the last one (maybe http://www.ballwithhat.com/ball-with-countdown-and-hat/). That way you can see the grand finale in the way it was intended to be seen.

I'd love to try; seeing as I've only made mini-levels in the past, it would probably be smarter for me to start off by making some medium-sized levels first. If I do so and feel comfortable with the size, I'd probably start something for this challenge.

If people are planning to do this challenge, I'd support their posting updates here to help with the motivation side of things (both for them and for us lazy people reading their updates.)

Online Improvisational Multiplayer Music Making... thing?

Description:
I'll admit, this is less of a game than many others posted in this section of the forum, but it's really a blast and a fantastic way to have fun with strangers. I just discovered it a few days ago and I'm already a massive fan.

Basically, you are thrown together with other people playing the game at the time and try to make music together. Completely mouse-driven, you are given a set of instruments/patches and can play whatever you want. It's all in the pentatonic scale, so it's pretty difficult to sound bad. The real fun comes in responding to the other players, whether it's moving in parallel, creating opposing lines, or throwing back and forth rhythmic ideas. Really, though, it's hard to describe it. Just give it a whirl (all browser-based, but only Google Chrome) and come back in a couple of hours when you're done.
