Knytt Stories - Custom Content / Re: Tileset and backgroundscaling
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:40:00 »
I'm sorry, I don't get what you mean by that. The editor doesn't scale images at all, neither backgrounds nor tilesets.
Oh, ops, I just discovered something. You are right, and my picture editing program scales inserted pictures as a preset. Well, that was stupid.

Knytt Stories - Custom Content / Tileset and backgroundscaling
« on: September 15, 2010, 15:04:06 »
Say I want Juni to walk on the background (like the mountian in a picture of a mountain or similar.)

As the editor scale tilesets and background differently (the tilesets gets smaller than the .png file), I find I have to "counterscale" tilesets (of cutouts from the background) I want to match the background.

So does anyone have a number for how much bigger a cutout tileset need to be to match the background? I think it would take me a while to find out by trying and failing ...

Plus, how do you do it? Do you got a clever solution? (Exept for making a mountain tileset and putting it over a sky background. Doesn't really apply to what I'm wondering about ;) )

(extra question: the world window in the editor seems to be 598x238pxl, and the game window seems to be 599x240pxl, as opposed to the picture file. (600x240pxl) Why is this? Just curious.)

I'd suggest you make separate topics for any further questions you may have (unless they're related).
Suggestion taken.
Anyway, its good to see that a forum for such a small unknown game is alive, without it I would probably never even begin to make my level.

Yes they are, I was thinking along the lines of general tips that people perhaps felt weren't properly covered in this subforum. But I guess that is too unspecific, so here is something i haven't figured out yet:

Regarding tiles, is there any way to place them independently from the "grid" they set themselves in? Say for example I want to put a tile two pixels higher than it places itself, is this possible? Or do I have to make a new tile? (Feel free to elaborate ;) )

Thanks for the tip! I am looking around the fourm to find more, but if anyone has any more pointers for a beginner regarding editing of levels (not just just the endings) they'd like to post it will be appreciated!

Allright, thank you! Now I'm off to find out what all these cutscenes and wintiles are all about ;)

Knytt Stories Level Editing Support / Beginner's questions
« on: September 08, 2010, 14:26:04 »
Hello, I have started scetching on what could be my first KS level, and some questions come to mind wich I can't seem to find the answer to in the forum. I figured I  am going to have more of them in the future, and hope to get some help here! Perhaps this thread could help other noobs like me as well..

Q1:
Is there a maximum number of endings you can have in a level?
(My guess is no, but as I haven't made any levels before,  it's still just a guess.)

The screen with the blue key in Xorons is horrible!  (edit: but not the worst. The laser one is horrible. The blue key one is more like..  annoying.
Any help on the bonus screen with the buttons anyone?)

Nice levels man. (those I could download anyway)

Well done! You are a good level designer.

Gah! This level is very frustrating! Can't see myself completing this.. But it's a cool idea, and well made. I find myself timing my blinking to the flat tunnel screens, hehe

The music seems to me to start just a little too early, doesn't quite sync. (at the start anyway.)

One thing you do especially well is the moods of the different parts of the level, perhaps best in the graveyard and the city. (I don't need a spoiler tag for that, do I? I am also quite new here, so forgive me if I am wrong.)

As for the abrupt shifts in scenario, that was new and exciting.. At least how it was done here. How about treating the idea more as an concept than as an easy solution?

I really like this level, and would love to see what would come of this project if you developed it further.

Hello, I've been a lurker here for a while (looking around for good knytt stories levels.), but you have given me a reason to register:

I seem to have been trapped in your chapter two: lanterns. I just can't figure out what to do, (how to lit the lanterns.) and as you know, I can't leave the area. Have I missed something? Perhaps a powerup? (I have the two first ones.)

Otherwise a very nice level!
