A couple of times now I have been working on a level, minimized the editor or put it in the background for a while, come back to it and see that EVERYTHING has disappeared. No worries though because I compulsively save my levels probably a dozen times for every little change I make, so I didn't actually lose anything, but I am curious if anyone else has seen this happen or knows why it would.

Development Showcase / Stories and Other Art by Gorf (Me)
« on: June 09, 2010, 20:59:59 »
I write stories sometimes, and nobody ever looks at them unless I tell people, so I thought I'd make a topic for them. Any stories I write that I deem good enough will probably be put on deviantart. Most will be comedic in nature.
I also make (extremely) random pictures sometimes. They usually aren't very detailed or well-drawn, but... some of you might like them. I'll post the better ones here too.
You can also visit my deviantart profile and just look around. Carefully.

Stories

This one is a superhero story... WITH A TWIST!
Slim Meets His Nemesis

This one is an... educational... article/analysis on the topic of pens.
Observing... Pens

Art

This one is a King Henry VIII in its natural habitat.
Long Live the King

This one is an illustration of the food chain in a few totally not made up organisms.
Food Chain

I welcome criticism.

I wanted to release Flipping Out before this, because
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)
But since Flipping Out is taking a lifetime and a half to finish, here we are :)
You should probably play The Storm's Coming before this level, if you don't want to be mildly confused.

The world has started disappearing into purple void, and a mysterious voice tells Juni to go to the tower.
This level has a few neat little concepts I've come up with. Such as taking away power ups within certain tiles and hiding enemies behind blocks to create "security systems".

I intended it to have some nifty music from the game Vexx, but I had to change that to comply to the copyright rules.

Also, I'm not exactly sure what the difficulty should be, so I need some advice on that one.

Anyway, here's the download link!

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [Hard][Challenge] The Storm's Coming
« on: January 19, 2010, 01:29:30 »
This level has been finished and sitting around for months, actually. I was waiting for the new archive to get finished, but that looks to be a ways off still :/

Publisher's Summary:
When Juni's town is beset by a violent storm that threatens to swallow everything and everyone in it with a massive flood, she knows just what to do. Juni heads off to the lab in the mountains to find out what is amiss and to stop a mysterious evil force whose motives are, as of yet, unknown...

Some of you may remember this from the old forum. A bit of stuff has been added (not much), and most of the custom music has been removed to accommodate the new(ish) rules concerning copyrighted content. I tried to get permission from the copyright holders, but anyone who's tried doing that can probably sympathize with me.

Anyway, here's the level at the end of the line: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?20ocynz1mzr

And here's another link for you picky folks who don't like MediaFire: http://www.sendspace.com/file/pyqszj

Known in my group of friends simply as "the paper game" since we don't know how to pronounce the real name.
In this game you throw balls of paper into a waste basket. Sure, you can do that in real life, but computers are the future, so yeah.
Oh yes, and something fun to do is to just sort of tap the ball. Usually it'll go flying away randomly, but sometimes the game will glitch amusingly. This is not a good way to get a high score.

Things I love about this game:
   - The music.
   - The very odd dialogue. It seems to be composed mostly of common expressions from some other language
translated into English, rendering them nonsensical.
   - The graphics style.
   - Everything else. *goes off for some lunch*

Also, I made a video of me playing it for an unnecessarily long time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0Sg5I83jYk

EDIT: Oh yes, and don't get discouraged if you only get like one basket on your first try. It takes some practice.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Challenge/Misc] Flipping Out
« on: June 08, 2009, 06:56:18 »
This was my first level that I released. When I released it it was very short and more like a concept level. People wanted me to expand it, so I am! The work is going very slowly, unfortunately.

Anyway, in this level you use arrows on the ground to invert the gravity and solve puzzles.

To quote from the original topic:
"This level is just a little idea I had. I didn't think I had seen it before, so here it is!
Juni goes off to find another adventure. When she wanders into an odd cave, the entrance collapses behind her! She has to use the cave's magic to change gravity and access friendlier terrain, fall up towards a low place (er...?), herd lava into smaller gaps and other usually impossible feats."

Also, we can use copyrighted music if we get permission from the publisher, right? Well, if I can get permission from Bioware this level will have some of Neverwinter Nights' lovely tunes :D

I posted this on the old forum. It's the KS tutorial redone with Atilla's calligraphy tileset.
Now with super color switching action! I tried to get any annoyingness from color switching by accident down to a minimum. If there are any spots where that could be done better, let me know.

Knytt / [spoiler]My Map
« on: April 13, 2009, 04:27:37 »
I thought I might as well post this on the new forum.
Some number of months back I spent some smaller number of months making a map of Knytt in MSPaint using single pixels to represent each tile. It was fun and probably completely pointless! Though I like it a lot.
Black is ground, grey is clouds, brown is secret passages, light green is items, and everything else is water, lava, etc.

The fruits of my labor are attached.

[mod]It still is a spoiler, so added that in the title[/mod]

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Challenge] The Tower of Mani-Chaka
« on: March 19, 2009, 22:27:49 »
The world has started disappearing into purple void, and a mysterious voice tells Juni to go to the tower.

This level will have a few neat little concepts I've come up with. Such as taking away power ups in areas and hiding enemies behind blocks to create "security systems". It is a small, medium difficulty level and it will hopefully have music from the game Vexx.
The level is already done, but I'm waiting until I finish Flipping Out to release it.

There is one thing that would be nice to add to the level that I do not have. If anyone could make me a silhouetted whale custom object swimming around in the background, I would be very appreciative :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, added the plot.
