Hi, I am new at this forum although I am playing KS for several years. I decided to release one of my levels (finally). It is not done yet. It is going to be a enviromental level, but there will be some challenge pieces, too. It has very simple story: Juni visited her friend, who is living very far from her village and now she is going home. She travels across many different small islands and meets some people. However, there are several caves and ancient temples with keys and power-ups (and also with traps and monsters. When she gets home, she realizes there is one really ugly surprise.
I wanted to create something nice and simple like Hmpf Mac Slow's Jumping in the rain, but it became much bigger than I expected (I was working on it during my exam period and anything was better than learning).
I tried to use here all my favourite tilesets. There are not any custom objects or tilesets made by me, just several modifications of Nifflas's tilesets.
Here are some screenshots:
-
Beatiful! Just beautiful! However, some custom objects wouldn't hurt. :)
-
Oh man, tons of small islands is a great idea! Now I want to make a level with the same theme...
-
Polana, I would recomend you to check out Egomassive's Mod for Knytt stories. It may help you a lot.
-
Thank you. :-)
Well I'm not good at pixel art, so I don't have anything I can put into this level.
There are still many things to do on this level - cutscenes, ending, some tilesets...
I hope I will finish it soon, because I won't have much time in spring (garden, school, etc.).
Here are some of recoloured Nifflas tilesets I am using:
-
I've come up with egyptian blocks tileset. Use it if you want to. Sory for the look of the unused tiles
-
Than you!
It looks great! I would add some pillars or sphinx.
I think I'll use them in the evil witch's castle.
-
really beautiful screens up there
a level of ilands hmm godd idea. makes me want to play wind waker again :P
-
Also some custom objects.
By the way, about the spinx statues, I've got no skill to draw such complicated decorations.

Try getting a picture of a sphinx with the angle you want (probably on the side), resize it to fit the desired dimensions, and draw over it. Won't give you the precision that pixel artists can achieve, but it's a good workaround that I have used before.

Thanks. And check out another tileset I made specialy for Polana
-
Your tileset is called useful things. I always dreamed of a tileset with onlt useful things that are not nececearly connected to each other. If you fill up that tileset completely it would become very practical for a lots of screen to put decoration on or other thing.

I am not dead !
I wanted to make small and simple level, but it is getting bigger and bigger.
I will include some screens I originally put out. Here are some new screen shots:
-
Jeez, that's good! Plants, however, are somewhat unnatural on the first screenshot.
-
So, how's this level been progressing? Are you still working on it?
-
I am working on it, but I don't have much time. I need to wait for the next exam period (I am making this level instead of learning). Don't worry, it will come soon.
Btw, there are some new screens. It is getting too big.
Denis, thank you for our GREAT tileset ! :)
-
I really like how this is looking!
-
These new screenshots make the level look very promising indeed!
-
Use the cracked blocks rarer please (they look unnatural when there's a lot of them.). And make the coffins more terryfying. I made another tileset
(check attachment). In the third screenie you use a nifflas tileset which you've got no right to use. At the bottom of the tileset stands: 'Do not use this tileset in your own levels!'
-
This is not that beautiful tileset by Nifflas, but similar one by Saml. I think it is free to use, but I will check it now and eventually make my own.

I'm pretty sure ut's a public tileset but if you're unsure ask him.

That's bamboo, if you didn't know.
And you should make a thread for your tilesets and objects in custom content childboard. (instead of forcing your stuff on ppl in their preview threads.)
-
Just to show some progress...
-
I don't know if you're aware of this, but that kid is walking on air. The screens look nice though, glad to hear you're making progress.
-
Oh, thank you. I didn't notice that.

You simply MUST tell me where you got the tileset used in the 2nd screenshot. I'm working on a medieval-themed exploration level so I need a castle. Tell me please. :D

It's Tlaps' tileset called "Knyght fort".
-
I've done it ! :)
I hope it won't disgust you much, I did my best. It is in level releases now.
P.S. Does anyone know, if Fubaka will continue his reviews ? I was looking forward to see my level mauled.

You are really good at using tilesets creatively!
very refreshing. I especially like the very last picture uploaded
