Development Showcase / N-Zero (game)

Here's a game that I made for a Mini Ludum Dare (game jam) some time ago.
I thought this would be a good place to post it, since it has some elements similar to Nifflas' games, it's atmospheric with simple KU-like graphics and bouncy mechanics similar to the ball in WaDF/KU.

You can see some info on the game and also a gameplay video (spoilers) if you follow the game's link. Be warned though, the game can be quite challenging if you're not used to the mechanics...
Also there's a secret I'm curious if people can find it  :)

There are no instructions in the game aside for which keys to use, it's up to the player to figure everything out himself.

Here are two screenshots of the game:

This is a level that I started working on three months ago, and just finished making a demo which contains the first area of the level. I planned on separating this level into an introduction area and the actual maze part, so that means despite being called "Paradise Maze" this demo doesn't contain any maze elements yet. Aside from some small experiments, this is also the first level I've made :)

It's a story about Juni who moves away from the big cities to a small, reclusive island, not only to escape from her troubles but also because many sages live on there. Like many other knytts who visit this island for just a short while, Juni is hoping that these sages will be able to share some wisdom with her, maybe letting her understand the meaning of life and why she sometimes has such a difficult time dealing with others.

I'm not entirely sure if I will be able to finish this level. My motivation was highest when I started working on this, and I've found recently that I don't care quite as much about telling this story as I used to. Perhaps this will come back though, and I'll continue my work on the level anyways, just not as quickly as before. (Also, I have a portion of the maze finished already that is about as big as this demo.)

If I do finish this though, the final level will probably have the tags [Misc/Maze][Normal][Large]. The maze also won't be a regular maze as you would imagine it, it will contain many other elements as well! Also, it might just be a little confusing.

Here's the

of the level, and I'll leave you with some screenshots ;)

Don't you guys wish there would be more games using bouncy ball mechanics similar to the ones in Within a Deep Forest? Well, I've made one! This is a Ludum Dare 30 entry, with the theme being "Connected Worlds". The description and game download can be found on the game's page, which is here:

It's been over a year now since I created these two videos, but for some reason I've never posted them here. Oh well, better late than never!

When I first played through the Figure, I got frustrated by it like probably everyone else, but I found that with some practice, it can actually be a really fun challenge! So I decided to speedrun it, and with the finished run I just barely made it below the 5 minute mark. I didn't know of the faster wall climbing trick when I did this, so it could still potentially be done faster, but I'm quite happy with the run as it is :)

The second video is a compilation of some challenges I put together by exploring the map and searching for spots that are particularly hard to, but still possible to reach. It's interesting how the unique game mechanics in Knytt Underground make it possible to use the environment to create your own challenges! These jumps, too, took quite a bit of practice, and over time I found more and more ways to reach spots that looked impossible to reach at first. I'm particularly proud of the last jump in the video, which looks even more insane than it actually is because I got lucky.

Anyway, here are the links to the videos!
