Development Showcase / Re: [BETA] Knytt Stories DS

There appears to be a bug with signs and jumping. I don't know how to explain it, but when a sign appears on screen and I jump out of the "activation area" it won't reappear when I return. Sometimes it suddenly appears again and disappears again.

This isn't all signs though. I've had trouble with the sign at the double jump power-up in the tutorial and the sign telling you to look at the upper screen for a list of power-ups gathered.

Also, the game runs pretty slow in the screen with the waterfall in the tutorial. As the water below the invisible bridge didn't slow down the game I presume it's the falling water tiles which slows the game down.

Additionally, some critters are running around a bit fast, I think.

***
Are the boolean values on the upper screen hideable?

Overall, this looks extremely good! I'm amazed how you've put it all together so well! Keep up the good work!  :D

EDIT:
[...]Note that I have compiled it with a new version of the underlying libraries, and it seems that it may not work on some cards. Feedback?  :D
This still works on the CycloDS Evolution.

Also, thanks for the notes on shared flags, LightningEagle.  I did not know about that.  That makes some things easier.

As for invisible planets, I would guess that if you drop some planet folders into a star system, but don't add entries for them in Star.ini, they would be invisible for UFO travel, but you could still teleport to them via Trigger Points.
When I next upload my changes to this Puzzler file, I will also do some experiments with the Trigger Points.  I may even have a working example to upload.  We will see.
That sounds like it could work!  :D

Anyway, I've been adding more config'able puzzles.  I have not really tested them yet.  So they are not ready.  And I would also like to see how many of the Dragon Noir puzzles I can get into the next release as well.  Some of them seem kind of challenging to adapt (circuit logic gates!?).  But maybe it is not bad at all.
Customizable circuit logic puzzles would be amazing.  :whoa:

I think twiggle should either go on the very middle of the starmap or on that corner where that weird pink nebula is. It is a "dump planets here star system" so i think it should be a random spot :P
Perhaps it should be near the edge? That way it would be a kind of bonus place. Either that or really near some other stars.

I just realized, There can't be much puzzles on twiggle because only 16 flags can be used... :(
But remember that unlike KS a flag goes beyond 2 states (on/off). Flags here can have many more values, I don't think anyone have found the cap yet.

Finnally, even if you get the multple copies and entrances working, you still ahve teh problem with flags not beening shared between the copies (becaus they are really the different planets according to the game)
NOTE: Flags are shared between planets in the same star system.  ;)

The question, however, is whether or not you can create an invisible explorable planet in a star system? Invisible in the sense that it can't be seen when traveling between planets, and explorable in the sense that you can actually stroll around on the planet, if you are teleported to it.

EDIT: Incredible work on the customizable puzzle by the way...!  :D

Sadly, I am currently stationed on an Atom/ION computer which can't handle Saira properly.  :S

Hmm, same problem as I have, though more severe it seems.

If you could resize or compress your image a little more it would put less strain on the less fast connections.

I can't leave planet and go to the orbit system, the application always shutdowns.
I think that it is because of cutscnes, but I still can't get it work! HELP?
It's quite hard to answer anything from that.

Please fill us in some more details and/or post the episode.

Hey again, been away for a few days.

I've been working on something, though it doesn't resemble a level yet I do have some ideas.

In my mind I picture a star system with 2 (or more planets) in war with each other. Imagine the aircrafts in the background scenery. Lasers and ... kinda like.. star wars.  :D
A ruined landscape and civilians which you help/talk to in order to gain clues and at the same time learn of the history of the star system and maybe why they're at war.

Of course that is just one star.

Knytt Stories / Re: I am looking for my old level, anyone have it?
« on: December 24, 2009, 22:46:41 »
It is unlikely for anyone to have so do not worry, it uploaded it over a year ago before the changes in the forums and before there was a level archive.
Even if no one else have it, maybe Goog has...? he seems to keep just about everything and anything.  :P

i'm sorry, can anyone tell me how to post images?
Either attach the image to your post:
This is done using the "Additional Options..." you find under the text area when writing a post.

Or upload your image to a website like tinypic, imageshack, photobucket or maybe deviantart and link to it using the
Code: [Select]
[img][/img] tags or just post a link using the
Code: [Select]
[url][/url] tags.

Sorry, 16 flags per system is all you get - and there are no warp or shift equivalents at all in Saira.
I see, and items are only accessible through subapps?

I think a starmap is good enough but a good addition would be to switch Galaxys  ;)
Woah, woah...

How about creating a level with a few star systems first. One galaxy can easily contain 12+ stars without looking cramped together so you shouldn't need more galaxies for the time being.
I know what you are getting at though. :p

@Nifflas: On another note:
(If you read this Nifflas... please answer this. You don't have to fully explain or anything, just tell me if it's possible and (if so) give a hint, then I can probably figure the rest out.)
As far as I understand flags are localized to the star systems, but can we create "global flags"?
In a sense I suspect items work a little like a kind of global flag, but is it possible to check for a specific item using the .ini files? Like the "type=flag hazard"'s check for flags and values?
Also, do we have a feature similar to the warp-feature in KS, which would allow us to change the landscape of a planet radically?

Saira Level Editing Support / Re: Game cache?
« on: December 24, 2009, 10:21:27 »
I haven't checked the file since I don't have photoshop at this PC, but I think the problem is that the mask is saved as a 32-bit png, which stores an alpha channel despite that all pixels are fully opaque. The game will then ignore the magenta and instead consider fully transparent pixels non-collidable.

You need to discard the alpha channel and save it as a 24-bit png file. If you use Photoshop, open your image. In case the name of the layer becomes "Layer 1", it's saved incorrectly. Flatten the image, this should convert it into a background layer that does not support an alpha channel. Now save your file, and it should become a 24-bit png instead of a 32-bit.

I'm glad to see that Nifflas is willing to spend time helping us getting this editing thing running.  :D

Oh, and did I mention that if you have Multimedia Fusion 2, you can reprogram the starmap into anything you want.

Well, yes, if you know how to...   :P2
