About Nifflas' Website and Forum / The Compliment Board.
« on: December 01, 2009, 08:12:08 »
This is the Compliment Board.
I wanted to help add some positivity to the forum, even if it's pretty well off already.
Post put-ups to those you want to show appreciation for, encourage, or thank, and what for.
(After all, this is a support forum.  :^^:)

I'd like to start by thanking Nifflas and all the mods for creating such a spectacular game and community. There's really nothing like it anywhere else, and I'm glad to have stumbled upon it and contributed (even if not very much) to it. This is really a great group of smart, unique, and artistic people.

Other Free Games / [Text-Based Story Game] Photopia
« on: November 29, 2009, 23:26:03 »

Photopia is an interactive story about Alley. Hailed by many as being a pioneer in text-based adventures, it's also known as one of the best. Although the story is very linear, it is a truly provocative and fascinating one, and masterfully told. Play it through; It's a story you won't soon forget. I recommend using choosing color.
Play Photopia
Since it's easy to get stuck, here's a guide that doesn't give too much away as far as the story goes. Still, try to use it as little as possible.

Other Free Games / [Shooter/Arcade] Counterclockwise
« on: November 29, 2009, 22:53:09 »
Counterclockwise, or as I like to call it, "3-D-battle-Snake-like-nausea-inducing-shooter", is essentially just that. You control your ship with the arrow keys like a 3-D version of the old Atari "Snake" game. You fly around the constantly changing battlefield, dodge blocks and tails, and try to shoot down the other snakes. Apparently a remake of the 1983 Spectrum game "Knot in 3D". Made by the creator of "Rescue: the Beagles".

Other Free Games / [Social Experiment] Execution
« on: November 29, 2009, 10:18:00 »
This is a social experiment game, pretty interesting way of communicating a point. I felt sick after getting the "game over", kind of made me realize a few things. It probably won't change your life, but it makes you think. To get the most out of it, follow these steps:

1)Download the game, do not read the comments posted on it.
2)Play the game.
3)Play it again.

If you post comments here, please put relevant ones in spoilers. Scratch that. That was a bit ridiculous.

Black Shades

Spoiler: Screens (click to show/hide)

Nothing terrificly special, but fun and quite addicting nonetheless. Very basic, fast-paced gameplay.

You are a bodyguard for the President. Use the weapons (or lack of) at your disposal, as well as a time-slowing Matrix-esque reflex ability, to protect the President from assassins. Advance through progressively harder levels and see how long you can survive. (Oh yes, and there's zombies.)

Like I said, it's pretty basic, but it's rewarding when you take out that armed assassin just in the nick of time or throw the president out of harm's way right as a bullet flies by his head.

« on: August 29, 2009, 04:50:30 »
I'm getting more into songwriting, and have a huge craving for some good new poetry or other inspirational literature. Any books/artists that anyone can recommend? I'm specifically looking for contemporary/modern stuff, but anything is good.
And don't tell me to google it. I'm looking for recommendations.
Thanks!

edit: BTW, just read Saul Williams' ,said the shotgun to the head and She. both very interesting alternative poetry books. i recommend.

Creativity Support / Loupe in Photoshop?
« on: August 27, 2009, 22:04:41 »
does anyone know of a way to get a Loupe window (like in GraphicsGale) or something of the like in Photoshop CS3?
for those of you that don't know, it's a preview window that's zoomed in a bunch for individual pixel editing. very useful for making tilesets.

Development Showcase / Static's Wallpapers [new as of 8/27]

Hears a bunch of walls I've made/edited recently. Made for 1280x800, but could probably be cropped for other things. I'm not going to claim any of them as mine personally, because many are edited from originals by others I've stumbled upon (afraid I can't retrace all of the authors).
