Petrichor is a level i started when i realized two things i've never done in KS - umbrella challenges and rainy areas - go together quite well thematically. It does various things i've rarely or never done, but those two are the ones it focuses on.

Much like in Gustav's Daughter, you explore a few small areas connected through a world map while gathering all of the powerups (except detector). Juni's goal this time around is to find a powerful artifact, hidden away somewhere it was long thought no one could ever hope to retrieve it.

Gustav's Planets (or Gustav's planets, i've been kinda inconsistent with caps) is an April Fools level, meant to look and feel like a poorly-made level by an inexperienced author. It's a fairly standard quest to get four keys, scattered across four different planets... or is it? Seems like the author has been neglecting that "test level" button, and none of the keys can be reached the intended way. But maybe you can put your KS knowledge to good use here, and find a different, not-so-intended way to get each key?

Despite being made as a joke for April Fools Day, this level was submitted as a proper entry to Gustav's Contest. At the time of writing, i happen to be working on a level that takes inspiration from Gustav's Daughter, but breaks several of the contest rules, and i figured i could still join in by making something like this.

So uh... this... is a level, i guess. I made it as a tribute to DonDoli and his Twitch channel, and as such, it contains a fair bit of jokes about stuff from his streams. This is also my largest and most ambitious level to date, so it's probably still worth playing if you aren't up to speed on all the speed man references.

You play as a golden creature who was left uncollected in DonDoli's speedruns one too many times and decides to get revenge. To do so, it must somehow escape the confines of the KS level it's in, and venture into the world DonDoli inhabits. The speed man's world, if you will.

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [Playground/Misc] The Randomizer Room
« on: January 07, 2021, 21:00:33 »
Idea by DonDoli
Level design by StraightFlame and Gliperal

The Randomizer Room

...is a KS level that's somewhat different from others, in that it's meant to be randomized using Gliperal's KS Randomizer.

The level consists of 100 challenge screens, which all have one of 10 layouts, each of which is specifically designed to act as a blank canvas on which the randomizer may paint its delightfully chaotic masterpieces to your specifications, for you and you alone to enjoy. Each and every randomization brings with it dozens of all-new, literally-never-before-seen challenges for you to overcome and/or just look at because they're kinda nice to look at!

But wait, there's more! If you have the randomizer add in keys, or (if you're using KS+) golden creatures or artifacts, you can try to collect them to earn several rewards, such as powerups! And not only that, but said powerups can also be randomized, if you feel like that's a thing you'd want to do!

Download the level here!

If you're on Niffcord, you might've seen that Stalwart Constellation was going to be officially declared "dead" yesterday. I'm kinda hesitant to actually do that, though. It's absolutely possible that i'll start working on it again at some point, and when i do, i'll make sure to let you all know.

I'll still upload the object and tileset recolors (as well as a Gradient84 recolor) here like i said i would, though. You're free to use them in your own levels, whether as templates for your own object recolors or completely unedited. (Honestly, i should've made and released object templates anyway, but i was too lazy.)

I'm not sure how to handle actually uploading all 175 images in a convenient way, so for now i've just put them in a zip file and attached it to this post. If you've seen the screenshots from the Stalwart Constellation thread, you know what to expect. In case you haven't, here they are again:

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [KS+][Challenge/Misc] Desert Knytt

Shift delays. They're great. They allow for some pretty creative and unique timer-based challenges, like the ones in Ultigonio's 2016 masterpiece, Deep Freeze.

What's not so great is that if you set the delay time to something unrealistically large, like 28800000, it'll still work as intended, allowing particularly sadistic level designers to force players to stay on a single screen for several hours. What's even worse is that if Juni leaves the screen or dies, the shift is canceled out, and all that time the player spent waiting for the shift to happen is wasted. Thankfully, that sort of thing has never actually been done in a level.

Until today, that is.

I discovered this neat little quirk back in July of last year thanks to Sergio, Gliperal, and ixMarcel. Since then, i've always wanted to find some way to make a joke level (or joke challenge within a regular level) with this as its main gimmick, but i never really found a proper use for it. And then, earlier this month, Desert Bus For Hope 2019 happened and it gave me a sudden burst of inspiration.

So yeah, here's a level that's basically Desert Bus in KS.

This was made for a contest held in October on Sooch Existence, the official Discord server for a bot called Sooch Master. Sooch Master is basically an incremental game, where you use a resource/currency called "sooch" to build facilities which produce more sooch for you so you can build better things which produce even more sooch... and so on. Except it's a Discord bot.

The goal of the contest was to create any kind of original content about sooch. Most other entries were images or videos, but mine was a Knytt Stories level. I managed to get second place.

sooch story is heavily inspired by the "surreal memes" internet subculture (as Sooch Master is a rather common sight on their Discord servers) and is filled to the brim with inside jokes from both surreal memes and Sooch Existence. As such, playing this level with little to no context can be... actually rather worthwhile, i guess.

DonDoli, if you ever plan on streaming this, could you let me know beforehand?

Compare and Contrast is a level in which you traverse a castle, looking for powerups. But there's a twist: The castle exists in two worlds, and Juni can travel between them at certain locations.

One world was made entirely by Gliperal, and the other world was made entirely by me.

That's really all i have to say about this level.

Yep, that thread in Knytt Stories Level Releases might have been an April Fools' Day joke, but the level itself isn't! It's just a lot less finished than i made it seem.

Inspired by an Undertale AU called Outertale, Stalwart Constellation takes place in a faraway asteroid field where a knytt civilization has formed after a spaceship crash-landed there many centuries ago. A young knytt named Maart sets out to explore the various nearby asteroids and hopefully... accomplish... something. At some point. He's not quite sure what that would be, though.

Spoiler: Screenshots (click to show/hide)

Planned features:
  • More than 150 recolored versions of standard KS objects
  • Recolored versions of many default and non-default tilesets
  • A large open world, made up of 3 different asteroids for you to explore
  • Multiple endings depending on how many artifacts of each kind you collect, kind of like in Saira but slightly different
  • Item shops, allowing you to acquire powerups in (almost) any order you'd like
  • Absolutely no blackcurrant or apricot jam anywhere in the entire level!

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [KS+] [Misc/Challenge] Zepsiman
« on: July 16, 2017, 03:21:17 »

This is a proof-of-concept kinda thing based on the Pepsiman game.

For those of you who don't know: Pepsiman is a Japan-only PS1 game starring the Japanese Pepsi mascot of the same name. The player character moves forward automatically and you dodge obstacles by moving sideways, jumping, crouching, etc.

Since KS+ has a set of objects which make the player move in a certain direction automatically, i decided to fill up an entire level with them and see if it's possible to make what can be described as a low-budget Pepsiman clone. And surprisingly enough, it kind of is.

I don't really have a reason for writing most of the in-game text in NES-era-style Engrish, especially since Pepsiman has, like, the best English you'll probably ever come across in an untranslated Japanese video game.

Download v1.1

There's a reward for collecting all 100 Zepsi Cola cans, by the way. The game keeps track of which cans you've collected, so you don't necessarily have to get them all in a single playthrough.

I sincerely hope you're not so caught up in your neverending search for the best superpower that you've lost sight of the best non-superpower: Birthdays!

(Seriously though, you guys should check out Nifflas' "best superpower" polls on the Twitter if you haven't already. I'm actually kind of impressed by how creative they all are.)
