i only actually started playing this level now, and i love it. 1005x966 is my favorite room so far. I have one question though, in room 996x961, is it possible to complete it if you press the button to remove the block at x=10 y=8? The intended solution is good but it feels like it would be cool if there was some super-precise jump that made it work without the extra block to jump on.

I really enjoyed it. It felt more organic that any of nifflas's other games to me, due to the interactions between different blocks, and the music, so it wasn't disappointing that it wasn't a huge game like knytt underground and the original knytt stories levels. After I finished the game i remembered that i still haven't finished lyle in cube sector, so i'll probably try to finish that soon.

i know i could make a huge, bloated level, but i don't think i could make a good one that big, so i'm not sure. maybe i'll try anyway.

nice site! I didn't see if you added a link to this guide on that site, but if you didn't, it would be a very useful addition for someone new to the knytt stories editor : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/557718/KS_LvlEdit.pdf

Knytt Stories / Knytt stories knockoff jam at glorioustrainwrecks
« on: August 15, 2016, 22:29:20 »
Hey, I was making a game similar to knytt stories, and i realized i'd love to see more people make things that were their own take on what was meaningful to them in knytt stories, so I decided to make this jam here: http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/10291

The idea is to make games similar to, but separate from knytt stories, using some game engine or libraries, but if someone makes a custom level for this, that would be great too.

I liked the confetti thing but i was dissapointed that there was no "big ending" considering how many times i tried. Oh well, i guess.

Definitely objectively the best Knytt Stories level ever made, true art

neat level, some very nice atmosphere and gameplay ideas!

fantastic level, i was initially stuck but i got it, and the end bit was neat

i really liked it visually and for the level design for the most part, though the fact that i thought i had to go through the red area twice annoyed me.

thanks for checking it out!
yeah, the piano thing was something that i wanted to try, because i really like musical sound effects in games, but you're right about it probably getting annoying after a while. the green key weirdness was a bug that i could've fixed, but liked the weirdness of, so i decided to leave it in, but yeah, mixed messages aren't good.

i guess with the rain thing, i was thinking the other place was sort of a cave, so it wouldn't have rain in it, but i guess i didn't do anything to justify that it's a cave, maybe. For me, music almost always verges on the side of being too excessive in most games and KS levels, so i wanted to just have ambience and sound effects. I put the gravity sorta high because i read something a while back that higher gravity makes games feel nicer, i guess it depends what game.

i guess i could make a better screen transition, and i have in the past, but i guess i just wanted to be lazy with that this time, and just focus on the overall feeling of the space and atmosphere and tilesets (the tilesets are gross, but it's my first time that i tried making a few different types of tiles for a game)The ending means something to me, but not really something specific, more like a certain feeling.

Hi,  the original knytt stories levels were maybe the #1 reason i started making games, though i didn't try the level editor until way after i started making games. My first game was an attempt to make something like knytt stories with some exploration and double jump and stuff, but i failed at having a double jump and stuff, so i gave up and just had the exploration with some weird portals. then i started making another thing like it, which might've been good, but i had technical issues, so i quit that. This is small, but is sort of the closest i've gotten to that sort of feel so far. It's not really that i exactly am trying to copy everything about knytt stories, but some things i just wanted to try. So here's the game, it is small and slightly buggy, but hopefully interesting.

glad you enjoyed it, the wallswims were all intentional here(unless one of them led to a void). i like writing the stuff, but the way dialogue is presented in Knytt Stories levels feels really clunky to me, or at least the way it's often used, so i wasn't putting it in here, trying to get more of a sense of the environment communicating something, in other words i was trying to copy nifflas without intentionally analyzing the original levels and gave up midway. my restrictions were 1. no dialogue and 2. only white background, though i didn't follow that all the time.
