Is anyone here up to testing the Steam version? It'd just be nice to make sure everything works before the game is released. Especially achievements and the OS X/Linux builds needs testing, but testing on Windows would be super useful too!
-
i could help 8) i got ubuntu 12.04 LTS \ windows 7 64bit & steam on my computer
-
I'd like to help. :) I want to get into the game again, but I waited for the steam version.
-
I'm just running win7 64bit, but if it's useful I'd love to test.
-
Great! If anyone else is interested, keep responding. I'm still working on figure out how to actually beta test something on Steam. Once I know, I'll PM all who responds here.
-
I'm game! I beta-tested the Steam version of Spelunky. Andy Hull sent out Steam keys tied to a promotional version of the game, but I believe regular keys should work for testing if they are redeemed prior to the release date.
Achievements are a little tricky to test as only the latest to be unlocked are visible via the Steam overlay, as clicking on them won't lead anywhere until the game is released. So keep this in mind, testers! You could press shift+tab after fulfilling achievements to confirm it's functioning.
I can test the game on Windows 7 and Vista, both 64-bit.
-
I'm in, I have Windows 7 64-bit and would really like to help get this to the Steam community.
-
Ditto on Windows 7 64-bit. Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I'm here if I'm needed.
-
Win 7-64 Bit.
Also could dualboot into Ubuntu if it's needed to be tested there.
-
I'd love to beta test! Finished chapter 1 & 2 but barely started 3, and haven't been able to play in while due to life-stuff. Now that I actually have free time I could do a full playthrough of chapter 3 for you :)
I have Windows 7 64 bit
-
I am running windows 7 64 bit and have been waiting for steam to greenlight knytt underground to purchase the full version. I'd love to help if you need it :)
-
You need steam for this, right?

Sounds about right... :)

I mostly just sought out this forum to see if there was any news on when this was getting a steam release and if existing users are getting a copy (which I see in another thread we are thank you very much!). I have the game on Desura and it's great.
You look to have a few Windows users already lined up. But if you need someone to try it on 8 x64 (though I can't imagine it'll be any different to 7x64) and no forum regulars have that then I can do so no problem.

Actually windows 8 is quite different from windows 7, so testing is a good idea. Windows 8 may come with different dependencies and thus miss a component that needs to be included with the steam build. I'm not Nifflas, but I'm sure he'd agree that its good to test it on windows 8.
-
Oh, I also have access to a Vista if that's relevant.
-
Okay, I've sent out Steam codes to everybody who wants to test! I still have a bunch of more codes if anyone else is up for testing it too!
-
Hi, I'd love to test it on Windows7 64bit please!
-
Had a chance to quickly test it before having to do homework. It activates as "Steam Sub ####", shows up in library as "Knytt Underground Developer Comp" and shows up in my account history as "Knytt Underground Developer Comp". Make up your mind steam :p
Went through the entire tutorial section of the 'menu' as well as the pseudo-demo, and had no issues. I then copied my save file from the non-steam version, and managed to continue chapter 3 perfectly.
Will attempt some achievement hunting later.
-
I played through the three chapters and activated two achievements (fireworks and shortcut genius) without noticing anything different from the old version. I'll get the rest of the achievements later - it's a good excuse to do figure space again :)
-
Got some secret achievements, namely Knytt Story and Tobias Chilli, also played with the controls and also took a Steam screenshot. Everything seems fine but a thorough achievement quest is underway.
-
Sorry for the double post, when I returned I noticed the game loads slower than the standalone version I have, I also noticed the cursor was visible in-game. On the bright side, Because it's tradition achievement seems okay.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure what's up with the mouse cursor. Maybe it's related to the Steam overlay? Maybe the new version is using a newer version of some library where hiding the cursor doesn't work identically?
-
Sweet! Played around a bit with it today, I will be able to do a full playthrough this weekend. Anyway, here are some things I noticed.
-I was able to take a screenshot and put it on the Steam Cloud without a problem
-The Steam overlay and everything on it appears to work nicely
-I noticed Alt-Tabbing is slightly quicker now (at least on my machine)
-I'm not sure if this is an issue with the game or if it's steam or if it's just because it's in beta, but on the Knytt Underground steam page (the one you launch the game from) it doesn't show the achievements on the bottom. If you click on "Show All Achievements" it just brings you to your profile page. However, the achievements themselves seem to work just fine.
-As others have said, you can see the mouse cursor while in game
-Have you implemented trading cards yet? I played for almost an hour and didn't find any. Maybe I've just been unlucky.
Again, I have Windows 7 64 bit

Speaking from experience, these are both due to the game being unreleased on Steam. You won't see cards until the game comes out.
-
I'd love to test it. 8D
-
If You need my help, I can test it.
My system - Windows 7 64bit
-
I've sent you Steam keys too!

Okay, thanks for clearing that up!
I played chapter 1 and 2 today, and everything seems exactly the same, except, rarely, the transition from one screen to another takes way longer than it should (like one to two full seconds). I haven't had this issue on the GG version.
-
Win 7 64-bit:
First, the game works fine. :)
I got some Achievements from the starting screen & Credits scene too.
Tobas Chilli, Knytt Stories and Because It's Tradition, all of them works fine.
But there's a minor complain about loading at the very beginning of the game.
Steam version takes longer (about 5s I think) than standalone version.
(I have no idea about this, it could be a specific problem. The splash screen of Steam ("Press Shift+Tab to open...") might be the cause.)
And loading between different rooms is also slightly slower than standalone, but it doesn't feel that much, maybe it's just my feeling, anyway, it's OK :)
++++++++++
Ubuntu 12.04:
Linux build is even better than any Windows build! The game runs fluently and loading is very quick!
Here's one little thing: you could actually change the window size in Linux build. I don't remember I could do this under Windows XD
Game itself runs great though, but there are some problems with Steam overlay under Ubuntu.
I pushed Shift+Tab to call out the Steam Community page, then I found I can't click those buttons or links (actually even the mouse cursor is still an arrow not a hand if a link is there normally) , but sometimes I can open them, after clicking them several times in game window.
I also got EDGE and FEZ under Ubuntu, their Steam overlay function great.
And the cloud sync works great. 8)
P.S.: Just in case, here's my spec: My laptop is ACER 4750G, NVIDIA GT540M & INTEL HD 3000 (built-in CPU), 6GB RAM (using Bumblebee upon Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit).
-
Just finished the PS3 version and would be happy to test the OSX version for steam!
-
Can test on Steam OSX
-
Sorry, I ran out of testing codes :(
-
I think your achievement system is okay, got about half of them.
The community buttons work on my side, but as it should be obvious Steam has nothing to display yet as the game is unreleased (this is Valve's job to set these up not Nifflas').
So far I haven't noticed any screen change delays, so it might be a computer thing.
I was playing around with the overlay and noticed that every time I close it, the cursor assumes it's position before opening the overlay.
I've attached an image of Knytt Underground on Steam's library with achievements and screenshots.
EDIT: I somehow messed up the screenshot, I've uploaded a better one.
-
The community thing is no problem. Just like lacking backgrounds and trading cards, those things are taken care of when the game is released properly. I'm glad the game runs nicely. I'll try out the overlay and see if anything with the mouse behaves way too weird. I know the cursor is kind of visible all the time now which can be fixed by moving it to the corner (maybe a result of a new version of some library the game depends on?), but hopefully there should be no major problems.

It seems that community page problem only happens in Linux build, Windows build is fine.
And the mouse cursor position, yes, I have that on my computer too, both Linux & Windows.
-
I think the cursor showing is a problem on my part (http://bpaste.net/show/7lAijBDSmbhgozwx0k5G/). I will see about uploading a new Steam version soon, even though I don't regard this as a critical bug :)

Haha!
-
sorry to be so demanding, but I have to ask - any chance of a timer being added to this build?
-
I'm sorry that I never got around to it :( Too much work on various things lately.
-
I finally had time to test this today (thanks for the key!). Nothing much to report on Windows 8 beyond the previously mentioned mouse cursor. All looks good so far.
-
I've put in about 10 hours of play so far and haven't noticed anything buggy. Achievements unlock fine, performance is fine, and I haven't had any crashes or errors. In my humble opinion, Nifflas, you're pretty much ready to go. C)

I'd like to try it. I have Windows 8.1 RTM right now.

I think he (sadly) ran out of testing codes. Otherwise I'd love to give it a go too. I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7, both 64 bit. I own the game on Desura already, but I'm very excited about the Steam version. Any ETA?
-
No ETA yet, but quite soon!
-
The cursor is fixed on my side (Windows 7 64 bit), the game loads faster too (unless that was a individual computer thing). The game looks good to go :)
-
No ETA yet, but quite soon!
All right! 8D Looking forward to it.
-
So I've played a considerable amount into Chapter 3, and everything game-wise seems to be working fine, I wouldn't expect it any different. The cursor is no longer visible, which is good, but now for some reason Alt-Tabbing doesn't work at all. Is anyone else also having this problem? I'll test it on my laptop later tonight.
