Yes after a many months of waiting, I have decided to release Insane.
Download it
Right Here

It was released before completion because I cannot say for certain how long it will take to finish the remaining screens- after all it took long enough just to get THIS far ^^;

Each obstacle has been tested and is able to be completed, some are significantly harder than others however. A few are taken from the other games I have made, and been given a touch up to be harder.

The game uses one custom tileset for the sole purpose of displaying what powerups you have for an obstacle. I know the tileset isn't the best work and it may be changed when the full game is completed.

Known bugs:
There are two screens with the same issue- they occur when the player is falling/flying directly in the center and do not obtain a power up. It is impossible to continue and there is no way to save without actually getting the power ups first.

I know you missed my Hiatus. Long story short, I get bored easily.

Insane, has gotten more work on it! I may end up releasing a beta shortly to get some feedback on the current obstacles at hand.

I've even added another game! "The easiest game ever" in it! Two games in one!

Progression: About 40% done. 55 screens with 50 acti

one thing i have to tell you though, when making a lunatic level... DON'T MAKE PARTS EASIER!! if you can't get past the screen then make it just passable, you want the level to be just-possible! if anything make screens harder X)
Indeed I am doing just that. If an obstacle is too easy I pause and go "How can I make this harder without making it impossible?" In some cases it looks impossible but it was accomplished.

I've noticed explosion lag when making boss battles, and i get noticeable lag at about 3 explosion objects, and at five it almost freezes for me XD (crappy computer is all :P2) im sure you could probably crash ks if you put the whole screen explosion objects on all four layers >) and i'd try it but im afraid my computer would crash too lol

anyways back on topic, the level looks surprisingly good... and hard, that first screenie looks extremely hard  with the switch behind the balloon shooty thingy and the sparkly thinger maker XD this is one i probably will not play X-P
Indeed I'm no longer pulling punches the way I normally did, that screen alone killed me a good 20 times before I actually managed to clear it. (The bottom was really easy compared to the top.)
My computer is fairly old but still on that one particular screen you're only going to see a total of 3-4 bullets like that, any more will pretty much kill you if not lag, with all those things going towards you.

...screenshot 3 looks like slowdown central.  Are you sure it's a good idea to have more than one Explode object on a screen?

NINJA EDIT!: Oh wait, those aren't Explode objects.  The bullets are purple.
I've tested it a few times and it doesn't lag for me.
And yep those aren't explode objects, those are bullets.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Long] [Lunatic] Insane (Updated)
« on: December 05, 2009, 11:25:45 »
I introduce the workings of my current game.(And probably last on 'making something as hard as I can.)

Insane.

The concept is simple enough, get to the end of the game. If only a thousand things weren't trying to stop you...

Also, unlike most games where you will pick up an item and be able to keep it, this game gives items to you for certain obstacles, and will take them away as well. This is done by using the item flags, and a helpful bar shown on the upper left of the screen showing what powerups are available when you enter a new 'section' of the game.
(The tileset background of the items probably need a serious makeover though.)

Little will be left untouched, if it's an almost impossible obstacle, it will probably be thrown in here, with only a powerup or two at your disposal to finish it.

This level was pretty hard. Which ones were harder.

BTW, The no second chance mode doesn't have to be beaten. It could be a competition for who can get the farthest.
There are all sorts of 'lunatic' challenges out there, although how they're so difficult depends on the player and the game itself.

Getting the farthest does seem like an interesting concept, but coding isn't my cup of tea- one suggestion from the first version was to have a count of how many times you died that could be put in as well that I thought would have been great, if I could figure it out.

This level is lunatic, no doubt!! About the finish scene

About the puzzle of the switches... the solution is obvious. I don't see where is a puzzle there... reaching them is the difficulty.

Wolf, congratulations for your fantastic job!
That's why I didn't really know weither or not to consider it a puzzle, I wanted to add switches to this version too but I'm not that great at giving hints so I figured 'why not just make the answer really easy, but make the switches a pain to step on.'
And I think it paid off, about 3 others have commented that, while the solution is easy, it's making the switches change itself that's a pain.

To all who think the puzzle is too challenging, I quote

If it's too hard, I'm sorry, but not nearly as sorry as I would have been if it were too easy.

I'm just not understanding the puzzle part of it. Others who have played it managed to figure out the clue just fine if you knew what images the switches go to. Albiet the answer isn't ENTIRELY obvious, but if you know your switches then it's really quite easy.

@Mystery Wolf: The trap wasn't all that luck based, actually. A few were, but not the repeated one.

@the level: Okay. You really shouldn't make the player guess and check 4 digits of a code. Two, maybe. But definitely not more. I'm stopping there.
Who says you're guessing?

Play my game... Ascent to death. Didn't make traps easier and its possible. Purple pineapple went nuts after he beta tested it:P
Hah...it was one trap and it was more based on luck than anything else which was annoying on it's own. Granted there are at least two like that in their own different ways but still that's why it had to be done.
I haven't tried it yet...but I probably should now.

Back by popular demand, an obstacle course that's bound to kill a player least five times, and then they get to the NEXT screen!

MW's 'Unbeatable' V3: Download here

Upgrades from V2:

-Music changed on most screens and will continue playing.
-A few more screens added, about 5 or so before the red castle.
-Almost every single obstacle has been given a 'revamp' to make it harder than it was originally. ONE obstacle was changed to be easier (I gave up after 25 deaths :/ )
-A new castle has been added! Dare you enter the gray castle and its challenges?
-A beginning and ending has been added to give it a little 'plot.'

Q&A:
Q:"Why is your game too easy/hard?"
A: The difficulty depends upon the player in the end. If it's too easy, I'm sorry. If it's too hard, I'm sorry, but not nearly as sorry as I would have been if it were too easy.

Q:"Why remake? Why not just make a new game?"
A: I've been in the process of making a new game but I've made a couple fatal flaws in it that I need to fix...it involves some new scripting that I'm unfamiliar with so, until then, enjoy the remake.

Q:"Why not remake The Dark Castle?"
A: I've tried. Honestly, I can't alter what I consider a pretty fun and hard game in the FIRST place.

Q:"Where is the 'no second chance' version?"
A: It was too 'unbeatable'. If you can beat this version without saving you may as well make a video of it. I'd be impressed.

Q:"Where are the screenshots?"
A: If you've played the first version, you probably have a good idea what you're going up with.
But there is a picture of one of the obstacles, just a warning that it the obstacle is in the game, but what Juni says is not.

Yeah it was very weird- I tried to recreate it about 10 times and nothing so it must have had to do with KS.
Overall the level was VERY creative though. I like it.
