Knytt Underground / Re: Will there be a level editor?
« on: August 05, 2013, 17:59:41 »
Soooo...I guess there will never be a Level Editor. That's a real shame.

I was introduced to Nifflas' games (and this forum) because of the editing capabilities of KS. I imagine that KS did the same for many other people too. I think its because Nifflas was an indie game developer who created an amazing stepping stone for others who wanted to do the same.

With zero chance of future editors, that unique and amazing thing is gone from Nifflas' work.

Nifflas' Sources / Re: egomassive's Knytt Stories Plus mod

Downloaded yesterday - This mod is AWESOME.  I can't imagine making a game in the original anymore. You've improved so much by adding triggers and allowing for creature modification. Great job.

For those who haven't experimented yet, I will say that it is dead easy to use these new features. Very intuitive and well-documented.

I'm about half way through this game and couldn't be more impressed. A user-friendly level editor for KU would be such a triumph. It would allow the creation of thousands of other games. So cool.

Recently, I had some people demo my game and they gave me a lot of useful feedback. This made me realized that I need to view game design in a totally different way. So I'm not going to make this competition.

However, I'm happy test other people's games if you want advice.

Ya, I'm cool with this competition. No one else stepped up. I'll give it a try.

Still no competition?? What's up with that? Just announce something.

Ok - thanks to all the testers for their feedback. I'm going to redesign this level over the next few weeks before I retest/release it.

I just tried to upload your level but it didn't go. I'm not sure why. I am able to upload my own levels without any problem.

I just played through the Normal version until I got to the Yellow key. So far, so fun. It's one of those games where you have 5 or 6 different monsters on one screen and you need to dodge them all.

Thanks. The first tester said it took him "about 38 minutes" so it should be a quick play-thru. I'll probably post the final in about a week so if anyone else wants to test, you have lots of time.

That's because you're a Knytt-playing BEAST. Really, I think each screen has a few challenges to overcome so it takes a bit more time.

Sure, it's not very long - only 28 screens. I would describe it as a Hard Challenge level, though I'm not a great player.  A full play-through took me about 45 minutes.

Usually with my games, I like to try to invent a new style of game play, something that I feel is new to the Knytt world. For example, with Key's Curse, I built the entire world out of keys and locks. In this case, I created a type of trap which I think is simple but unique. I would really like a few players to make sure that the traps actually work properly. (I don't want to give away more than that as it will detract from the testing/playing.)

Here's a level I've been tinkering with for a while. You're a Nano Knytt who invades your enemy's brain to wreak havoc. But since this is the future, the enemy brain is full of all sorts of traps and firewalls.

The game is mostly finished so I'm looking for testers/previewers. If you're interested, send me a private message.

I'm about half way through this level right now...just needed to stop playing and post a comment saying that it is really really fun. Best level I've played in a while. The difficulty is perfect.

I really like how you use the same screens several times by activating various components and traps. So when I pass through a section, I'm thinking "Damn! This will be tough when I turn the power on!"
