How do you score on Pteranodon? It may be just me, but there are no things to shoot on.
-
You're probably missing the pteranodon.it file, without which there is no music and the enemies won't appear. I recommend redownloading the whole thing (http://www.ni2.se/redirect.php?target=pteranodon).
-
Thankie u!
-
You're welcome. :)
-
Heh, enemies linked to a missing music file? (http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/7624/strangerrgif15784.gif)

That's because in this game the pattern in which the enemies appear is connected to the sounds that are being played. With each note on the melody, you get a new enemy and the bass makes the light around the orbiter pulse.
-
So if you stuck a different IT in there that would replace Pteranodon.it, could you get a completely different stage?
-
I doubt it, but you can always try. xD
-
I always though it was the array file, not the actual music. :P
-
Well, you can actually play that file with XM Play, but yeah, I guess it has more information than just the music.
-
Um, holy shit. I'm pretty sure I just played Pteranodon with a different .it file, and it worked (although not as well).
I lol'd.
Edit: Man it's just about the pattern number.

Well, now that this has gotten totally offtopic, how would one go about opening pteranodon.arr?
-
Ah, see there's the problem. Array files (at least those of the array MMF object) are relatively un-openable in any standard program. To the extent of my knowledge, no one has made an array opener. Hmmm.. :shifty:
EDIT: Looks like a binary 3*something or other array. (see attachment.)

It's a normal IT. From looking at the music (but not actually checking in the game), there aren't any extra commands that would control enemy spawning, so it would seem that the game has been specifically coded to watch for activity in certain channels and spawn enemies.
(Again, I didn't check ingame for how accurate this could be.)
-
Okay. I did a bunch of things with the pteranodon.it file, and nothing seemed to have much of an effect. Then, I tried replacing it with one of the musics from #MAS.
EDIT: I'm guessing that while the array controls the objects that appear, the it file sets the tempo.
-
I did some fiddling, and it looks like the only modifications to the .it that affect the game are tempo, and pattern transitions. If you want to make the game harder, just increase the tempo :P2
EDIT: I am about to upload a video of this amusing phenomenon, because... Well, because I can.
EDIT2: Here we go. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GPLJcIRgb8)

Stick ttp .it file on it it make stuff appear in batches
-
@Gorf: I believe I already said that.
-
Oh. Seems like i need a sound card to make enemies appear.
