NEW VERSION: 8/16/09

Challenge, Very Hard

Description: Everyone knows rain bring monsters.  And the source of all rain is Faucet Mountain...
But now it's raining in the middle of summer, and Juni's fed up.  She sets out to turn off the rain, armed only with her grandmother's fake eye.

She doesn't realize she has just embarked on a journey that will take her above the highest mountains, below the deepest seas.
A tale of redemption, cleansing, and ghosts.  Of course!

Have fun.  I've worked on this over a year; it's been a bit scattery because of school.  But it was great making it! Thanks for making such an incredible game, Nifflas.

Fixed glitches:
SGE in climb powerup room (Pineapple)
Void in hot/cold puzzle (Pineapple)
Wallswim in underwater fish room (Pineapple)
Voids on either side of open maintenance hatch (Kefit)
Instant-death from explosion after boss (Kefit, Kl?mrisk)
Void above 'hot' rooms (Kefit)
Wallswim from pillar under blue key - can't find location.  (Pineapple)

Reported, but not fixed:
Bottom two above may not be fixed.

Well, I've given up for now. It's a fairly complex and sometimes confusing level. I'd say it's very hard as opposed to hard. May I ask, did you play through this level yourself? I cheated a couple of times to see if I could find
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)
Because I cheated and didn't really finish the level, I can't really say I liked it. Sorry. That doesn't mean some of the other players here won't find it enjoyable.

Just remember, looking for the objects in the editor won't necessarily help you find all of them, nor how to get to them.

Looks pretty good, but I don't think I'll be downloading this due to the difficulty. :/

Don't let the difficulty detract you.  You'll miss out on a lot of incredible levels that way! :ohnoes:

Environmantal levels can't be hard:

Quote from: Nifflas
Environmental   An environmental level - No puzzles, no
                        monsters, no challenge, just beautiful
                        landscape.

SGE on the screen with climb. Still playing.
EDIT: Wallswim if you double jump under the pillar on the right under blue key. Void up from the laser past the locks.
EDIT EDIT: Another wall swim in the fish area.

I'm stuck at the volcano. On the screen with highjump, I can't seem to find any blocks to jump on. So far it's ok, but a bit lacking in scenery. It would also be good to have more save points. With the number there are now, it can get very frustrating.

Go to the right-most block. Then, take a flying leap to the left. Also, just wait 'till you get to the umbrella screen!

EDIT: Finished it. Was there really any point in loosing yellow key instead of hitting Ctrl+R?

I'll get to work on those glitches.  Thanks for the help, Pineapple!

EDIT: Fixed the ones you found, except for the first wallswim.  Where's that at?

I uploaded the fixed version to my Comcast account.  It should remain compatible with whatever save you have.

OK, I give up.  2 nights later and none the wiser about getting through the 16 numbered shift screens.

Oh and you can get to the voids above x969y1000 to x973y1000.

Excellent level though.  First I've played after a break of about 6 months.  Glad to be back.

There's actually a secret area that would help there,
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)
Or you could use trial and error.

I seem to have been caught in a particularly nasty bug.
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Also, once the passageway to the underwater maintenance area opens, if you head right from the entrance you will find void screens.

I see what you mean, Kefit.  Guess I forgot to test that spot.  Voids and auto-death fixed, hopefully, though I need to figure out something first.  Are you getting into this areas with double-jump somehow, or are you reaching this voids/wallswims using trickjumps? If so, I'm not sure exactly what range these jumps have; it makes it tougher to design, hehe.

Post by: Purple Pineapple on June 19, 2009, 20:30:12
Yes, this one was a trickjump. I was looking into how you could fix it, but now it seems there's a different more pressing wallswim at hand.

It's a tough jump; I know it stumped me when I was trying to work on it. C)p

Anyone have any idea why the Archive won't upload the BIN?

Don't get stuck on the jump to the umbrella if you're blind LPing it.

So, I totally give up at the maze. Where am I supposed to go? And yes I do know the number I'm supposed to find

but I don't know how to get to it.

This level is great.
Although lacking in design and with some challenges a bit too hard, (I had to peek in the editor thrice to add savepoints and delete hte annoying "enter the screen and it explodes"-thingies) it has an atmosphere that just want me to play on and on (took me 3 hours at least) and there's also this great fact that the level never seems to end, there's a new twist whenever I thought I'd finish the level.

I've got one thing to say about the end tho......ANTICLIMACTIC.

So, for your next level, work more on the graphics and a better real ending.

7/10

Edit: OMG! I posted this 13:37!

Oh, snoot.  I thought I got rid of the exploding glitch, but I left a second worse one in its place.  Fixed and uploaded!

Wow. Just got done playing this, and... wow. Loved the music, loved the level design, especially loved the final stage. I think it could probably use more save points, especially during the hot/cold section.

I did find one minor glitch, though I'm not sure if you've addressed it between my download and when I actually got around to playing it.

Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

That aside, it's an excellent level. The plot twists were a very welcome addition and there were some very clever moments.

KenoguLabz, did you get permission from those artists to use their music in your levels?  I know Skaven states on his FAQ that it's okay, but I don't know of anything similar for the other artists. (Also, I used to know ElectroPiZZa.  In, like, 2001.  Sort of.)
Title: Re: [Challenge - Very Hard] Rainfall
Post by: KenoguLabz on September 01, 2009, 06:44:57
No; however, as this is not being sold, and there is no way to contact most of the composers personally (all these files were from the MOD archive, except virt's), I believe these are considered pubic domain, as long as I give credit where it's due.  Correct me if I'm wrong, please!

And you knew ElectroPiZZa in person? That's sweet! 8D
Title: Re: [Challenge - Very Hard] Rainfall
Post by: minmay on September 01, 2009, 20:27:39
Modarchive's modules all fall under a free distribution license unless otherwise noted.  That isn't public domain, that isn't even creative commons; you're violating it by converting them to Ogg Vorbis format and placing them within your level.

To be honest, though, I doubt the composers would complain if they knew of this level's existence.  I certainly wouldn't advise removing it.  In these situations where artists are simply unreachable, sometimes you have to just "take the risk," so to speak.

(This is why I've started making music for my own productions :P)

Hi!!! I discovered Knytt Stories only a month ago. Rainfall is the first game I downloaded from the forum, and now that I finished it, I can only say Congratulations Kenogu!!!!!!

I love this level and this game, and I will surely play many other levels.

I found 2 void glitches:

- A "void" way to the secret room, using a double-jump.
- An infinite fall to a void screen after avoiding the hedgehog using the umbrella.

Thank you for your game and sorry for my english, because I'm spanish!  8)

Title: Rainfall Trailer
Post by: KenoguLabz on December 11, 2009, 08:18:33
It's been awhile since this was posted, but I've made a small trailer to go with the level.  The resolution is screwed up (note to self: don't use strange window size when screen capturing), but it's the best I can do with the tools I have for now.  The song playing is, again, Virt's "Aspire".

This should be the final update I ever add onto this topic, so:

The level is now available on the Knytt Stories Level Archive!

I'll put it up as a mirror on the first post as well.

thecroyo has kindly created a Let's Play (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RF_Ks2m0RU) of this level.  He had a lot of fun making it, and I'd encourage you to take a look!
