Title: Secret project (closed)
Post by: Purple Pineapple on May 14, 2010, 03:00:24
First off, I don't know whether this was more befitting of the Collaborations board or the Knytt Stories board. It's technically a KS level thing so I decided to put it here. Please move if necessary.

Now, then. Don't think that this is going to be a collaborative KS level, because it's NOT. It is a secret project, however, so I can't really just post about what's going on. If you decide to help with this project it will require very little of you. I'm not asking for a whole tileset. I only need a very small level. If you want to help, post here. I'll PM you with the details. Here is a list or required people:

Tilesetters (closed)
Experience required: Ability to create reasonable quality tilesets; flat blocks of colour doesn't cut it.
Commitment: Low
Total spots: 5
Available spots: 1
Current tilesetters: stiggits (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=446), egomassive (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=1741), BloxMaster (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=10), grimwit,  (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=607)green.cookie (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=1486)

Gradient makers
Experience required: Drawing/sketching. Preferably something besides just gradients.
Commitment: Low
Total spots: 0-4
Occupied spots: 2
Current gradient makers: BloxMaster (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=10), grimwit (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=607)

Level creators
Experience required: Level creation; ability to work with various background tiles
Commitment: Moderate; create a small(medium?)-sized level
Total spots:
Current level makers: Pick Yer Poison (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=768), Healy (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=2106), BloxMaster (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=10), LimeLemon (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=41), rrc2soft (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=132), BackwardsO (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=profile;u=310)

NOTE on Blox and grimwit: One area of commitment will be decided based on requirements.

This sounds interesting, but I'll probably want to wait until you at least have a few tilesetters before signing up.

Also under the Level Creators heading you put "Current Tilesetters: None."

I'll try to be a tilesetter, depending on what you want.

I might do some tilesetting. Consider me a non-commital volunteer.

Thanks. It's fixed now.

@ pumpkin,Feline Monstrosity: I'll PM you guys. Check your inboxes.

Sounds intriguing, but I'll need to know more before I sign up. I'm looking to increase my Knytt Stories portfolio. PM me I guess.

I am happy to have a go at a tileset, never seem to find the time
to start a complete level so a smaller input in a bigger project
would be fun.

Ooo...Secret.

I'm in...for now.  I can do pretty good gradients and some okay tile work.  You know me and level design, tho.  Preffer to make the gradient first and build the level around it.

Still, Yell at me if'n you need me.

Post by: Healy on May 15, 2010, 18:13:25
I guess since you have at least a couple tilesetters by now I'll sign up.

Feline Monstrosity has chosen to not join the project until early July. If I don't get five tilesetters by then, he's back in.

@egomassive: Unfortunately, I can't tell you more unless you sign up. If you pick one of the three positions as a possibility I can give you a little more info. i.e. "I may make tilesets, but I might back out." Then I would tell you more about the tilesetters.

@ stiggits,Healy: I'll PM you guys.

@grimwit: I've seen the way you make levels with gradients. Sorry to say that technique won't work so well here.
Edit: If you wanna make normal gradients or just tilesets, however, be my guest.

Sign me up as a level creator. You can use the two levels in my signature as samples of my work if you'd like any. Just keep in mind that if there end up being unmentioned constraints that I dislike, I may opt to back out.

Why did you sign me up as a tilesetter? I wanted to do level design.

My bad. It wasn't all that clear. I'll send you the level design PM.

Alright then, I will be a tileset artist. I'm pretty good at imitating others' styles, so any style you're looking for I can probably do. The more specific you are the better, and don't hesitate to criticize.

I can see now that you're revealing different details to different types of collaborators. I'll trust that what you tell me as a tilesetter is all I'll need to know.

I'm interested in this, but I haven't made a level or tileset in a long time. All of my levels feature at least one (usually more) of my own tilesets, and of course my own level design. I also may be mistaken but I think all of my levels feature only my own gradients, but again, there may be a default one in there somewhere.

Regardless, I'm interested, but I would need to know exactly how much commitment would be required. I also don't know how well my art would blend with what is wanted, since I can only do a few styles well, and everything else just looks messy.

So basically, I can do anything on the list, to a degree. Just know that I'd have to know a bit more before actually committing to anything.

EDIT: As an additional note, I consider myself better at tilesets/leveldesign/gradients than my released levels dictate, but they are still the only complete examples I have.

I've hired people who haven't made a single tileset.[citation needed] I don't think quality will be an overly huge problem.

Regardless, I'm interested, but I would need to know exactly how much commitment would be required. I also don't know how well my art would blend with what is wanted, since I can only do a few styles well, and everything else just looks messy.
This is getting a bit spoilery. I'll PM you.

So, about how much experience would you like us all to have? Because as many of you may know I'm not as experienced a member as say egomassive, but I don't know just how good you want all these things. PP you've seen my tilesets right? :P
Title: Re: Secret project
Post by: egomassive on May 18, 2010, 01:35:20
I'm not all that experienced. I've only released 2 levels, 1 of which is still in beta, and a tech demo. Pumpkin, if you look at what he told BloxMaster you'll see that Purple P. isn't overly concerned with your skill level. I'm sure he's seen your work, and he knows what to expect.

So we make tilesets... and gradients... and levels... and it's not a collaborative level?
It's a... secret?
This sounds very interesting. Even though it could be anything. But you are like, cool so it will probably be something fun.
Sign me up for level creation! I can make pretty good gameplay (please don't even think of TMPL, it was my first level), and now when we have others do custom graphics...

Wow, there's alot of secret in here.  I got a PM, but I'm still not sure if I'm in or what I'm doing or where I am or who the presedent is.

<_<  Crap, who IS the president?  Did McCain win?

Well, that's not here or there.

O_o Direction, Purple!  I crave it!

I would like to become a level creator  :) . I have to recognize that I failed at making a Saira level  , but it was because I was unable to create the graphical feeling I wanted to convey. However, if tiles are already provided, I may be able to make something interesting  :). Can you PM me with the details?

Urm... I think I'm gonna sign up as a level and/or tile set creator! I've tried my hand at both but I tend to lack initiative :moody: This seems like the kind of motivation I need. Hope I can help out!

That's fine. If you feel like making gradients, just.. well.. go ahead. No particular theme or style required.

No deadline; the project will end when we have all 5 tilesetters' submissions and 1+ level from the level designers.
