Since an official manual is yet to be included with the program, I took the liberty to make one. ;) What started out as a few personal notes eventually turned into a nine-page pdf manual that tries to cover all the basic features of the Level Editor in detail.
Features at a glance
- compatible with Acrobat 5.0+
- Native PDF bookmarks!
- clickable Table of Contents;
- complete list of Editor hotkeys and shortcuts;
- Knytt Stories Manager manual included;
- detailed diagrams and text;
- grayscaled for smaller size and easy printing;
- unzipped pdf size: 372KB
See the attachment! X)

Hi I just tried to download the quide by Siam Jai, but when I try to open it it says "unexpected end of archive" so I am assuming it is corrupt. Please can you help, thank you.

The forum was moved to a new server temporarily so that it wouldn't crash during the influx of visitors after Saira's release, and the attachments were not moved with it, so that link is broken for now. I can't remember what exactly the mods said about this (if anything), but for now I'll attach it to this post for people to download while we're on the new site. Hang on.
EDIT: On second thought, I'm going to ask SiamJai's permission first.
EDITx2: Okay, I take back the offer entirely. I just found out that I had never saved the file. It's listed twice in my Downloads, but apparently both times I just viewed it and closed.

I've got the file from Nifflas' forum, but am now investigating why the FTP transfer corrupts the file each time. Either I now fixed it and it was a setting, or my internet connection really sucks... I at least have the file on my HD now and either I'll upload the specific file or I'll manage to get all the attachments up. :)
EDIT: ✔ attachment has been fixed.

Thank you, LPChip! :)

Exp HP, thanks for the consideration. :)
For future reference, feel free to redistribute it without asking. As long as its unedited and without charge, I'm fine with it. ;-)

Magadite, I used to have similar problems with downloads breaking on certain sites or when the connection is bad. My suggestion is to use wget, a free and simple downloader app that's able to resume broken downloads. Works great!

[mod]split off the ks level manager thread and merged with this, which it seems to be addressing.[/mod]Thanks for posting this PDF manual. It has a lot of useful information. However, it still leaves questions in my mind. For example, I'm trying to figure out warps. A line in the manual states, "You must have a warp object on the specified game screen for the settings to take effect." What does a warp object look like? Is it the orange square with the 4 arrows in it? If not, what is that object for? I tried putting one in and setting warp parameters and expected to see the purple shimmering "save" type object but nothing showed up. And the purple warp object is not to be found in the Level Editor inventory. Quite the mystery to me at the moment.
Are there other manuals around which might list all the objects and explain what they are and how to use them?

I was working on an guide that explains all the objects a while back. Then I stopped because I felt there were way too many stickies, and I didn't want to spend 5 hours writing a topic that was likely to be stickied (thus adding to the clutter). Now that there's more room on the board, maybe I should continue working on it?

Detailed manuals are always welcome and encouraged from my point of view. :-))

I have a question too:
I am looking through a finished level (forgotten realms, to be precisely)
and am on a screen with a "shift R" object.
these things are explained in the manual too (like how to do the settings for it)
however oit all requires going to the "edit screens" page viy the same named button.
which, I might be blind, is nowhere to be seen!
was it removed in the transition from KS to KS+?
Also, how do I somehow edit an already existing and placed object?
cause clicking anywhere just changes the background tiles and not the "action block" (as I will call it due to not knowing right names).
how do I edit these?

To answer your second question ( I have no experience with the KS+ level editor ) to know for sure how it works there... Okay, I do have it, but it was so long ago and not used often enough to recall how it works there...
Your second question though, you have layers, represented by the buttons 1 to 8. 4 foreground layers and 4 background layers. Clicking on the number with left will select that layer. Clicking with right will toggle its visibility. By making all layers invisible, then toggling a layer on will allow you to find out on what layer an object is.
