Title: Seaweed please!
Post by: Evil on April 01, 2009, 00:37:19
Custom Object request :)

Can somebody make me a medium sized seaweed? About 48x24 (hxw)

And some transparent water, that's bright colored and moves not too fast. :)

I'd do the seaweed, but I'm not very good with plants. :/

C'mon, don't start an argument about why someone can/cannot make it. The question here is that someone can make it. If you can't just don't reply.

Bank 7, Object 8 is a rain generator. Place it at the top of the screen.

A nice method is to fill the screen with waterfalls, a bit like the first screen in "8bit Knytt"

No, then it would be a waterfall not rain.
I need the rain to be like, needles falling from the sky.

In just that it's a lot faster, or directed at an angle, or what?

Going straight down.

So, downpour vs. drizzle?

One thing you could do is go in the KS source, turn the rain object into a CO, speed it up, and make a really dark background.

So, instead of the rain object in KS, you need it to be comming down more forcefully?

If it's waterfall, then I could have just used the waterfall from the bank  :D

I know what bank object it is, but that's not the point...
Does it, or does it not look like what you're looking for?

If it does, use it, if it doesn't, then what ARE you looking for?

I may be mistaken, but I believe that if you use the rain object several times on the same spot, just in different layers (i.e. four rain objects on the same tile, layers 4-7), it kind of makes rain a little bit more forceful.

But maybe it's just my imagination, I couldn't really tell when I compiled a little test level for this particular effect.

actually, the width and height must be specified if it's more than one row

The width and height is default 24x24. What you said doesn't exactly make much since. Using your logic you would have to specify the width if it were more then one column wide, and there would be no need to specific the width of the object if it were only multiple rows in a single column. The only reason you can specific width and height is if the object is bigger then 24x24. T

here is no need to set the width and height if the object is only 24x24.

sorry, i thought the co manual had said it must be specified if it's more than one row. my bad

EDIT: I originally read it when it did say that, then it was updated later.  The version i saved to my harddisk has the error in it.

No, you remembered correctly, and I'm quite impressed that you did, TechnoGeek. :)

At one point the manual did indeed say that dimensions need to be specified on a default 24x24 CO if the sprite spans more than one row. I remember, I put it there because the PacMan example didn't work correctly until those dimensions were specified.

The manual was written during KS beta, however, and with the current release it seems that this problem no longer exists, so the manual was updated as well.

Back on topic, I've started working on a rain CO. Looks good so far; it might complement the stormy clouds/lightning CO I've released earlier. :)
