I've heard that there is a way, but I don't know what it is.
I was making plans for my untitled shmup, and I decided that this game would be awesome played with an Xbox 360 controller.

Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Game controllers
Thats what it says in my pc.

Thanks, but that doesn't really help me much.

What part are you having trouble with exactly? Can you not figure out how to plug it in, can you not find drivers for it, or what?
Probably the first one. Get a (whatever the controller uses)-to-USB adapter at your local computer store.

Just look it up on Youtube. That's what I did for my ps3 controlled. You'll probably have to download some drivers to make it work as welll...

Yes,
The wired version just plugs and plays.
Wireless needs and adaptor you can buy in video game stores, and some drivers that come on the supplied disk.
-
Yes. You need a wired controller, and a driver for the hardware, which is found here:

Google is your friend! Use it.

Yes. You need a wired controller
No you don't, you can use a wireless controller if you get the wireless reciever for PC.
-
You will need a wired 360 controller, like StaticRomantic said, or the special wireless 360 controller for the PC.
If you don't want to buy either of these you can make your own out of a wired controller for the original Xbox. I did this with one of my old controllers and it works wonderfully!

AS I said before, you need the wireless reciever, The wireless controller for PC is a NORMAL Xbox controller that is normally used (and comes with) the Xbox 360. The only difference is that you need the reciever to connect it.
-
Yes, it is possible as long as you get the driver.
