this level was pretty interesting until it got too hard for me (ghost and water zone). hanging and double-jumping off tiny walls is just not my expertise.

okay one thing though? you know what's not fun? puzzles that involve trial and error that have skill challenges in the middle of them so you have to dodge the same enemies over and over while you're trying to solve a puzzle about colors. i totally got to the end of one long section and realized i had to start over and go all the way back.

@egomassive not really working with knytt stories any more, but i'm ALWAYS WATCHING

this is so nice. i like all the big sweeps of landscape in the foreground, it makes the world feel a lot bigger than it is. the dialogue is charming too!

i was kind of really uncomfortable playing juni as a cop who eviscerated people by jumping on them super mario style? like it's for sure a trope of cyberpunk dystopias that police are even less big on procedure than they are now, but i was kind of shocked by how abruptly people turned into smears of blood upon contact.

some comments on the third screen, which was the screen where i stopped playing.

A: this is where a save point needs to be.

B: first of all, "don't touch the floor here" was kind of unclear. i initially thought it meant that whole island, and i didn't understand how to get through. second, that jump is super difficult. if you refuse to make the jump any smaller, you need to make the bookend platforms at either side (the parts i'm allowed to touch) wider. i need to be running to make that jump and there's next to no space to start running on that platform. on the right side, when i have made the jump, i've overshot and ran into the water before i could brake.

yeah dudes, the lighthouse is mostly about vertical movement and it waits is a deliberately slow story. if you withhold the run ability from the player for a reason, great, but a lot of new creators see that the run object is a collectible and decide they ought to treat running as a power-up. so lots of knytt stories start with these really dull screens where the player can't run or leap and just sort of has to plod through the landscape until the player decides to give her an ability.

I liked how you displayed bad design choices without really using them yourself. (If that makes any sense?) It results in an edifying and playable level.

i tried to include some design tips that are more subtle than outright messages on the screen, and if you picked up on that, awesome.

(you have a great sense of screen composition yourself!)

and yeah, i could tell something more subtle was going on with the movements of the spiky green guy but i couldn't figure out exactly how it worked, and if i couldn't, i figured the average player couldn't either. that's unpredictable to me.

i made a little knytt story to help new knytt authors avoid common problems. not really basic problems like misaligned screen edges or putting scenery tiles in the foreground layer, but more subtle things like making foreground objects read as background or using invisible walls to make uneven walls even.

you can find it here.

they don't seem to have been posted on knyttlevels.com. does anyone have them, and if so, could you please upload them to the archive? they are:

a story by fegon which i think is called "leviathan," in which juni explores an old, grey castle.

a story called "monolith" in which juni dies and has to journey to the underworld.

and then there's a story in which juni has to find medicine for a sick friend/roommate. i don't remember the name of this one, so it might be in the archive. do you know which story i'm thinking of?

thanks!
