Nifflas' Sources / Re: egomassive's Knytt Stories Plus mod
« on: August 08, 2012, 07:47:16 »
Hello Egomassive and All Knytters,

I've been enjoying Knytt Stories for a year or two now as one of my default game platforms.

I am very proficient at the game and use of the editor and have dabbled in coding custom objects.

I also have the editor always handy to both customize the levels to my taste and to learn to create my own.

Now there's Egomassive's Mod which offers the 2X screen which I like a lot and some convenient editor functions.

Then I try to play "The World is changing." by Toenail -- "Only for Knytt Ego's Mod."
http://knyttlevels.com/levels/toenail%20-%20The%20world%20is%20changing%20v1.0.1.knytt.bin

I can't get into that yellow box behind the old hermit to the east of the start point.  There's a Shift there, but it apparently requires a flag to access it and it doesn't show up yellow in the editor and I don't know where the coding for it is in World.ini or wherever.  (I found it once but can't now.)

And here's what the hermit says:
"Sign(A)=Gone to my new home. If you can't figure out the training by yourself then you don't deserve it!"

This has me very frustrated.  Is there a tutorial out there that will help me understand how this Mod and levels work?
I don't want to search all over the forum for bits and pieces.  Is there some documentation out there I can study?
Then I can make sense of all the forum posts and eventually create levels of my own.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

I apologize for that. I no longer support KSA personally, and I actually don't even have it on my current harddrive. If someone has it and wants to provide it, then by all means.. In the meantime I will look around my backups and edit this post when I have more information. Thanks for the interest in it, though. :)

EDIT: It has been found, and LPChip has kindly offered to host it for the sake of supporting levels that used it. He should have a link later. Thanks LPChip! :^^:

Don't worry about it.  I just found ver 1.7.  If you got beyond that it might be a curiosity.  I found that the benefits (don't actually remember) and the drawbacks (slower on my computer) about cancelled each other out and I could do just about everything with the original with some creative combining of features.  I have enjoyed your levels, though, and just became aware of KnyttWADF looking at your tag line.  It's a rich culture, this Knytt thing.

Neither download link works at this date.  Anywhere else it's available?

Knytt Stories Advanced aka KSA is my mod for Knytt Stories.
KSA has a lot of features, but be warned that KSA is not done, complete, or, most of all, bug proof. I'd recommend you PM me any suggestions or bugs, and keep the topic solely to the discussion of your opinions on KSA.

Make sure that KSA has KS's Data Folder!

@ peterarev: Everything is working fine for me, and your installation sounds correct. (The Knytt Stories.exe and Knytt Stories Ex.exe should be in the same folder.) I have two questions. Does the manager work any differently when launched from the normal level editor? Do you realize all the fields will be blank until you select something?

If the manager doesn't work from the normal level editor, then the most likely culprit is that your directory address is too long. The manager can't digest long addresses. Try moving your entire Knytt Stories folder to a location like c:\Games\.

See my post again.  I edited it for the second time as I get the jist of 1.4.1.  Thanks for the coaching.  I'm pretty good with the Editor and just expected it to work with script.lua which it doesn't.  Is there a repository somewhere for Levels that take advantage of 1.4.1?  I could learn a lot by comparing script.lua to the screens and behaviors.

Howdy,

I installed 1.4.1 and the game works fine, but if I try to edit/view the screen info in Third Party Tools / Knytt Stories Manager (current screen), none of the page info (shifts, etc.) show up.  Now I realize that it's in script.lua.  Where can I get a tutorial on how to use the programming language?  Is a point and shoot interface in the works?  I still haven't completely mastered world.ini and objects (especially animated), etc.  There are several references on the web which have helped me, but this new script is Greek to me.

Sorry if this question has already been answered.  I'm fresh into KSA and this is an old discussion.   Thanks for the tweaking tips for using the regular editor, but...

where can I download Looki's Modified Editor?

PA

Either:
1. Rename KSAdvanced.exe to 'Knytt Stories.exe'
Or
2. Download Looki's Modified Level Editor and open the file (in the worlds folder) 'EditorSettings.temp', change/add the lines:
Code: [Select]
[Looki]
Executable=KSAdvanced.exe
Then use Looki's editor for KSA.

The first option is easier.... X)

Detailed manuals are always welcome and encouraged from my point of view.  :-))

Are there other manuals around which might list all the objects and explain what they are and how to use them?
I was working on an guide that explains all the objects a while back.  Then I stopped because I felt there were way too many stickies, and I didn't want to spend 5 hours writing a topic that was likely to be stickied (thus adding to the clutter).  Now that there's more room on the board, maybe I should continue working on it?

[mod]split off the ks level manager thread and merged with this, which it seems to be addressing.[/mod]Thanks for posting this PDF manual.  It has a lot of useful information.  However, it still leaves questions in my mind.  For example, I'm trying to figure out warps.  A line in the manual states, "You must have a warp object on the specified game screen for the settings to take effect."  What does a warp object look like?  Is it the orange square with the 4 arrows in it?  If not, what is that object for?  I tried putting one in and setting warp parameters and expected to see the purple shimmering "save" type object but nothing showed up.  And the purple warp object is not to be found in the Level Editor inventory.   Quite the mystery to me at the moment.

Are there other manuals around which might list all the objects and explain what they are and how to use them?
