Other Free Games / Re: [Horror/Platformer] AOOFAD & Au Sable
« on: April 23, 2011, 11:52:36 »
I just want to add my vote that these two games are excellent atmosphere pieces. Neither are particularly hard - it's mostly about the mood they portray. The music and sound effects are wonderful and the graphics, while at first seeming a bit messy, are actually brilliant. There's something haunting about the only-vaguely-comprehensible plots and blundering on despite not really understanding the hows and whys.

Au Sable is particularly good.

This looks good, particularly the more 'organic' screenshots (using your Elegance tileset).

Well I saw your comment, Hmpf, and searched the bowels of my computer for the files. The completed part is short, but detailed. I still need to make some tilesets, COs and cutscenes, but it's mainly the actual mapping left.

I'll see if I can get this done before September. No promises, though.

Uncheck the HD button... that should help. Also, hit the play button then pause it immediately to let the film buffer fully. Hope this works!

Thanks very much for the comments, LP.

This is far from perfect and my main beef is with the audio. It was all done in post-production because the audio equipment we had at the time was awful. Making the entire audio and soundtrack from chopped-together and drastically tweaked pieces from The Freesound Project is tricky at best! We wanted to keep the music to a minimum to try to keep the overall mood quite tense. (LOVE Half-Life 2)

There will be considerably more films in the near future (and a better website if / when I ever figure out CSS)!

p.s. The actor isn't me - he's my good friend and co-director, Benjamin.

Development Showcase / SHORT FILM - an action thriller
« on: June 09, 2010, 07:46:51 »
Hi there, Nifflas forum folk!

I've been inactive for a while and all my Knytt and game-related projects have unfortunately been on hold. The reason is because I've been working on a short film for the past 6 months (filming from January to March, post-production and editing March to June), co-directing with a friend, and it has now been released!

Please, take a look. Heck, watch it twice! And please, SPREAD the word to your chums. I've entered it into a festival which takes into account the number of views, 'likes', etc. So the more people who see it, the better! My goal is to hit the 1000 views mark in a week. (Please excuse the blatant self-promotion there.)

You can watch it on my website, here (http://bit.ly/bN21jK) as well as read some extra info about it. Or, you can watch it on Vimeo (http://bit.ly/blx2bl). The film is also available on my friend (and co-director / actor)'s Vimeo page.

Hope you enjoy it! If you have a Vimeo account, add me as a contact (the I'm also on YouTube so if you have a YouTube account, add me as a friend there too - http://www.youtube.com/user/uth3rdoul - but the views for the festival are Vimeo-based).

Thanks in advance for your support! Hope you enjoy it. There will be more to come.

I also found this a couple of months ago - reminds me a lot of Skyroads, one of the first computer games I played. Level 32 isn't my friend on this, though.

Yeah, sorry if that was a bit antagonistic. I'd had a bad day and my tone was unnecessary. (Though, Salmoneous, you successfully managed to make yourself guilty of exactly the same thing as me with your post.)

Anyway, lets get back on-topic.

Enjoying it so far, very nice tileset choices. Thought I'd post a void I found:

Thanks. I think you're one of the few people to have played it. Fissure will be similar to The (Incomplete) Wonder in some ways, such as a few locations and some basic story ideas.

Apologies for the considerable bump, but I have an update.

As some of you may be aware, my laptop committed suicide back in September and I've not had much of a chance to do any real work on Fissure partly due to much of the source files being lost to the ether, and partly due to no replacement computer. That also partly explains my absence here. Anyway, I've managed to recover a few files from old backups and in theory, should be able to get working on this again in the none-too-distant future.

The concept remains the same; a few things will be altered (such as plot and locations) and perhaps the intended size will be decreased to allow me to get this finished sooner rather than later. Then again, I'd always planned on releasing this when the new KS Levels site was completed, so perhaps I'm still on schedule. ^^;;

I look forward to it coming back up - the stuff I heard on Virb was really enjoyable. Is this music for sale or freely-downloadable?
