As always, lets speculate about what the new game could be! :)
Based on This topic (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=2708.0) it could be that the game is called Find Love.
So, for a moment, lets assume the game is called Find love, what would it be for a game?
Will it be a platformer? Or perhaps a shooter? Or a ballgame? Or strictly puzzlebased?
Options, options, options! :)
If you find anything new, be sure to report it in this topic too! :) Like new images/info/etc...
All we know that Nifflas needs a level editor for it, which possibly (unverified) will be released to the public too.

Find Love is this short game
(http://nifflas.ni2.se/content/screenshots%20miscgames/Game%20Jam.png)
I doubt this new game will be related to it, since Nifflas wasn't the game designer, but who knows...
-
Find Love (http://nifflas.ni2.se/content/games/Game%20Jam%201.zip) is on the main page, under "Miscellaneous" (http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Miscellaneous). This is obviously not that game.
Although, you might want to make a board for Find Love (http://nifflas.ni2.se/content/games/Game%20Jam%201.zip) too.
-
Ah, no, this is not Find Love. It's actually a re-imagination of a game I used to play and love as a child, so you'll get game mechanics similar to a game you have already played but with a completely different set of puzzles and approaches to solve them.
Nothing innovative in other words, but hopefully a very enjoyable game at least. I'm beginning to think about an online database for levels as well that can handle all my games with level editors (right now it's Saira, KS, The Mushroom Engine, Game mods, and soon this new game). I think that'd encourage more editing for more games than just KS. The only thing that scares me is that I'd have to learn MySQL.
-
I bet that MySQL is way easier than programming games :)
-
Ah, speculation time.
-
Nothing to base any assumptions off as of yet; gonna wait for J to leak some info before I start guessing
-
Wait. I got it. It's The Turtle Philosopher Tetris!
-
You should really make a board for Find Love btw. I just tried it out and went wtf.

Nifflas said something about a bird did he not?

ballgame? never heard of that genre before. :P2

you wish. (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=2283.msg26105#msg26105) :P
-
I think it could be a puzzle-platformer with a bird. Yay
-
I think that its a girl exploring a environment, and it also comes with a level editor :)

Either that, or a game where the main character is a ball. Maybe blue. :P
-
I think it's gonna be a mix between Fallout 3, Wii Sports, and Pixeljunk: Eden. 8D

[mod]Added the acronym of itt for as far as I can find out what it means.[/mod]

i want the pteranodon back! >(

this will most likely be a platformer, that isn't bloody, has very good peaceful music and features somebody exploring but there will be amazing graphics and very cool puzzles :D
-
Wait. It's a game. The graphics are 2d. They are made in another program besides MMF. The code is made with MMF. The window size will be 600*360. There will be the option to switch control keys. It will run on windows, but throw some messed up error on Vista/7. There will be EXACTLY 7 characters. One will be an enemy. The thickframe and maximize buttons will be disabled. The music will be external. Nifflas will commit suicide halfway through making the game, and then rise from the dead and finish it as a zombie.

Actually, I think it means "I think that..." far as I can tell... but they seem to be interchangeable in every thread I've seen it in...

^ It generally means 'In This Thread' (or in this case 'In This Topic'). I've never seen it used to mean I Think That, but I suppose it exists.

Here's what we've heard so far.

It won't be Juni, she's too nice and harmless. To me, this game is a break I need from my seriousness and deeper meaning, so it has to be a character who have a personality that lets him/her run around and e.g. throw bombs at random creatures and enemies.
Any ideas?
[...]the character width/height relationship is 1:2 and can carry objects above his/her head.
As I alluded in the other thread, based on this stuff alone, I'd say Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a. Doki Doki Panic).
But then there's this post...
I wouldn't call it violent [...]. The game is very harmless.
[...] I by some reason I feel like I have to do something small, silly, funny nonsense that doesn't really mean anything. [...] The gameplay mechanics are really neat, and unlike Knytt Stories, every object interact with each other in a different way, which means that quite complex puzzles can be accomplished with just a few objects. This should be perfect for level editing![...]
DDP/SMB2 hardly had any interesting or puzzle-suited interactions like that. I can't really think of any game that fits everything that Nifflas has said.
Anyone have any more ideas? Maybe it's a more obscure game?
-
Or maybe Nifflas isn't trying to replicate another game. :O

But then again, maybe a "re-imagination" has more room for deviation than a remake/demake/clone.
-
Probably there will be aviable to make lots of puzzles.
-
Hihi,
Nifflas I bet it`s a very funny feeling seeing a bunch of kiddies (me included) puzzling over something which could probably be something particular if something else which is probably made in a guessed direction is finally presented by you Sir!
Mhoa long sentece!
-
Will the new game be freeware like Nifflas' earlier small games, or commercial like his more recent releases? (More a question than speculation, but I didn't feel like making a new topic)
-
At the moment I'm making my best shot at living off game development. It won't be free, but as it is developed rapidly in just a few months the price tag will be low.

I think it would be unfair if it was free. Your games are so good that I'm sure we'd all pay for them if it was required. I feel you should always charge for every game from now on, because regardless of what happens the community will have still benefitted immensely from your completely free back catalogue.
-
Another new game? great XD
so what kind is it? a platformer? Puzzle game? or a new kind?! X-P
BTW, i still didn't know how to play Find Love...
it always reminds me some FTG games ..OTZ

And would that certain 8-bit game happen to be Doki Doki Panic (or Super Mario Bros. 2 as known in the West)?
-
Yes. Since I will sell the game I don't think I'm legally permitted to point out which games I'm taking inspiration from at an "official" place such as my website. If I've understood it right I'm allowed to say it in interviews, lectures and that sort of stuff, but I shouldn't refer to it in a fact sheet like a description of the game at my website.
I'll have to look into it though. Oh, and let's not forget I'm also taking inspiration from Lyle in Cube Sector.

Heh, I was actually just about to ask that.
I've never actually completed Cube Sector, but people seem to love it; Maybe I should do that one of these days. :)
-
Pay attention, people.
In this game, beta testing will work a bit differently from how it normally works. To explain the game itself, it's a platform game very inspired by Super Mario Bros 2 and Lyle in Cube Sector. You can apply for beta testing this game, and if you're accepted you get a copy for free.
-
Lyle in Cube Sector is cool, but it has a couple of very bad game design decisions, in my opinion, which prevented me from ever beating it. In particular, I'm talking about not respawning with full health and the way too long way you have to go before you can try the final boss. Everytime.
Also, it did not explore the its full potential in terms of puzzles.
-
^ I've usually found enough health on the way to the final boss, it was the boss that killed me many times instead X)
Lyle in Cube Sector does have problems (I'd add the corridor with simply swarms of enemies to the list), and it could have been more, but I understand it was made in a very short time. They should have made an editor, even as a hack or something, but I guess the game doesn't have enough following for that, does it?
FiNCK looks like it will have none of those issues anyway, at least as far as I can tell.
-
The difficulty and the "restarting from the beginning" is actually two aspects I loved about Lyle despite that I normally don't like that in games. The same thing really worked well in Spelunky too.
However, this game will be more "typical Nifflas game" in the way that you get to save very often and don't have lives.
-
But starting without your health upgrades empty was too much. :P
-
^ But it was still way better than Metroid, where you restarted with 30 HP, no matter how many energy tanks you had collected (up to 900 HP I think). THAT was too much!
On topic: is it just me, or does the protagonist look like the purple WaDF ball with Juni's hair and... I don't know what kind of body?
-
I don't find the face similar to the purple ball from WaDF. This protagonist seems to me to have a very sad espression.
-
I completely missed the beta testing, and I can't wait to play this game.
I hope there's a multiplayer option. Just imagine the chaos with four or so players on screen, tossing each other around and solving puzzles together.
I'd also like some bouncy bombs. (Bombs that bounce a little off the ground)
Like so:
And have them wiggle and break loose after a while, so the player who picks up the last stack isn't bullying them.
