OK. First part of my playthrough is posted here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLG6MA9AbFA

This is my first attempt at making any sort of playthrough, so the result is far from perfect. Hopefully it can still be of some use.

Thanks again to SecretGlitch for such an amazing level.  :)

Wow, thanks for making a playthrough dude! :hiddenstar: I wanted to make a scenic edited playthrough a long time ago that featured the music but getting the footage and editing the audio to be seamless was a little to great of a task for me. Good job with this, though!

Knytt Underground / Re: My ideas for a way to create Knytt 4
« on: July 10, 2013, 19:45:22 »
It amazes me that people don't want you to evolve as a game designer, and that seemingly everything you do has to be compared to Knytt, even when they're trying to do different things. I can see why calling it Knytt Underground causes direct comparison, but throwing WaDF, Night Sky, or Saira under the bus of "not enough like Knytt" is just extremely biased in my opinion. I get why people enjoy Knytt, although I don't care for it too much, but by this point it's a simple freeware game that was made years ago and shouldn't be the only game that you made that ever matters. Knytt Underground is doing something different, and it lasts a heck of a lot longer than Knytt which forces it to be a more diverse game. Even if I don't ultimately care for it, I still appreciate what it does and the effort put into it, and I don't compare it to Knytt Stories and moan about why you don't make games more like that. I enjoyed Saira and Night Sky and FiNCK, and I hope you continue to evolve and make games as radically different to Knytt as you want them to be.

2. How was the mod created? Are there Knytt Stories' sources available anywhere?

I almost had the same thought about needing markers but the color designations are a powerful enough guide, IMO.

Also you forgot to update the download link on your website to KS+102.zip, egomassive.

That doesn't work like you'd hope since you have to visit the room with the spoofed coordinates beforehand to make it appear in the map in that color. If you go to the actual room it'll appear the normal color. And I'd much prefer to just select the color myself than this method, that's for sure.

A question and suggestion:

Exactly how does a map square map calculate what color it should be for a certain screen? It's giving me some colors I outright don't expect. I imagined it would be the average color of the gradient but some things don't seem to turn out that way and it's hard to predict when you have a very dynamic gradient.

And my suggestion is to allow the player on a screen to override the default color for the map square and pick their own color to use. It'd help make sure the map screens are the right color if they seem to not be what you want and allow the map to segregate areas that may be similarly colored. If there is already a way to get a map tile to be a certain color already, though, I'd like to hear it.

What's the story with the prizes? I haven't gotten PM'd yet.

Number three, that's for me.

Good job everybody. For me, a lot of the levels weren't my thing, but the ranking the levels seems very fair. An extra round of applause to all of those who got through my level but only played it because of this contest.

@Noumenon: There's a perfectly good thread to post in instead of this one about Talps' fine level. Especially since you aren't voting or commenting on other entries. [/nitpick]

To all the entrants, I gotta say good job at putting more huge levels out there. Those are always the ones that people look forward to and never get released.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / Re: [Challenge][KS+] Mill

I might throw in a selectable Medium difficulty for those who really can't play my levels but want to experience this one. It'll be way more doable to have in this level than it would have been in Dark Sea 2.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Challenge][KS+] Mill

Yeah, I'm making another level. Egomassive's amazing KS+ mod inspired me into making a level or two in it.

What is Mill? It's a pretty plotless level, just focusing on Juni overcoming a highly mechanical mill in a hazy grassy plain. There's going to be a focus on obstacles as usual. It'll be a bit easier than usual fare, being around Hard to Very Hard (as I assume to the preference of most). I'm also making it more environmental and explorational than usual, so it'll be nonlinear. It'll be on the shorter side as well.

Don't know if this was covered or not, or if it's a problem or just something that has to be like this, but spawn blocks only work for the highest value spawn placed on the screen. As in, if you had the A, B, and C triggers on the same screen and the A, B, and C spawn on the same screen, only the C spawn block would work. And if only A and B are on the same screen, only the B spawn block would work. Otherwise, the sprites spawn at the designated spot in the script.

Good work getting through it! Thanks for playing. Also, if you manually went in and put save points, I'd suggest using KS+ as it has a save-anywhere feature in cheat mode. Though hopefully you wouldn't need to use said feature this point forward.

Knytt Stories / Re: Suggested levels to get better at Knytt Stories?
« on: February 23, 2013, 03:59:59 »
For my own levels, I agree that Dark Sea 1 is a good start. Amidst the Clouds too, perhaps. Industrial Trap is really close in difficulty, as its obstacles are generally long and complicated, so it's probably not a good jumping off point. And the rest of my levels aren't worth suggesting.

As for other levels, you can just search for Very Hard levels on the forum that get a lot of attention.  Generally those will be worth the time.

I must also note that you just have to do the best of your own abilities, and don't stress out if you can't legitimately beat my level as a whole before the end of the voting period. It's very long and very challenging and it takes a quite some time to beat for almost anybody.

I voted. Apologies to anyone trying to play my level when it's at a far higher difficulty than they can manage. I was planning on having a playthrough recorded before now but I don't have the time. Oh well, go into the editor or cheat if you must or do what you can.
