ACTION BUTTON DOT NET Reviews
« on: January 23, 2010, 04:59:48 »
(Didn't know exactly where to put this topic, so sorry ahead of time; maybe I'm presumptuous in thinking it even has a place anywhere on this entire forum, but oh well.)

Everyone here would likely, it seems, be happy to know about actionbutton.net; it has possibly some of the most informative and well-thought-out literature on video-game design throughout the internet. The reviews are incredibly long and off-the-wall, but they hold something valuable for those who want to know _why_ a game might be theorized to be great beyond simply having great "mechanics" or "atmosphere". I do hope one or two people here give them a look, particularly these ones:

Super Mario Bros. 3: http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=426
Canabalt (this is a free flash game, very much worth a look): http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=618
Out of this World (old French game which I would guess Nifflas has played one of these days): http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=431

Are you the owner of this website?

I ask this because the Development Showcase forum is for products you've made.

If it isn't, then there isn't really a place for a topic like this on the forum. You can however post some of the games with links to them in the Other Free Games section. People will click the links to play the game and if they like the site as much as you, they'll easily discover that too. :)

Would you have said there isn't a place for this if it were posted in Creativity Support and noted as "enlightening as to game design" or somesuch?  Because that fits in pretty well with the other links posted there.

SMB3? Do you have rights from Nintendo to host it on your site?
