Title: DRM free?

As purchased from Fastspring or GG, is Knytt Underground DRM free? The website is not clear.

Also, for some reason I could not post a new topic in this forum.

I love the Knytt games and WADF and am looking forward to playing this one!

Yeah, its an awesome game. The sensitive issues should be solved when the game gets updated, hopefully in a few weeks. Note that the desktop version also came out, which doesn't have these issues. Something happened during the porting of the game to the console.

Oh, I checked out the credits first thing and was like "yes! playable credits!"  :)

I tried the demo on Linux with Wine and it seems to work perfectly. I guess there's no rush to get the native version out.

If I buy it, will I get a Steam key if it gets greenlit?

I don't think you will. I'd also like to have this game on steam, so I'm waiting for it to go greenlight.

Wow!  Just played through Chapter 1 and I couldn't have enjoyed it more!  I've been playing Knytt Stories for years as it's the perfect relaxing gaming experience for an old guy that grew up on simpler games in the original NES and SNES era.  Knytt Underground is basically perfection for me.  So enjoyable!

I like to play games windowed rather than full screen and encountered a situation multiple times where the game froze on me and it took a few clicks on the window to unfreeze the game.  Don't know if its just me or if there might be a glitch.  Regardless on Fullscreen mode the game ran flawlessly.

10/10 for me!!

If the game freezes, then it just loses focus. See if another process is stealing the focus from the game. Might be a good idea to run some spyware scans in the process.

I just finished chapter 1 and the demo of chapter 2, everything about this game is so amazing! The visuals, paired with the relaxing ambient music is just breathtaking; Several times, I stopped and admire the background for a bit before moving on ><
Also, since I really loved WaDF, I'm glad you can also play as the ball, that's pretty awesome!

Planning to get the full game asap  X)

Just registering on the forum to say: I love this game so far. It's such a nice blend of its predecessors; a lot of familiar environments and mechanics. Especially love the nods to the underwater lab, and underwater adventure. I've explored maybe 20% of the third area so far, and I'm sorta hoping for more operator status elements. Maybe some switches to toggle the gravity sideways, hehe. :)

Also: very pleasantly surprised to find that there is a working linux version. Not sure what the "beta" status indicates, but it works fine so far for me. You should mention it on the front page http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Underground (http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Underground), even if it is just a beta version. Make nerds like me happy.

Kudos!

I know what you mean! My god everything about this game is ... perfection. Great job Nifflas (and others)! Haven't gotten much further yet because I've been busy with things but I've got about 40% of chapter 3 explored and it just never ceases to be amazing in every way! I don't think there's ever been a game I'd rate 10/10* but this one definitely goes way beyond expectation! :D

edit: *I mean I'd rate this one 10/10!

It's too untested right now. I need to learn about more which distros it runs on and what requirements I need to put. The reason I don't want to market it officially now is that if it turns out the game doesn't work on a bunch of distros, I'd like to be able to say so to. If people purchase the game for the Linux version then it turns out that particular linux distro will never be supported it'd be a bit awkward.

I'll go public with it as soon as I know what the system requirements are. Please make a post in the Linux thread telling us what you know the game runs on, it's super helpful!

Thank you so much for the game, it is the best christmas present!

I am truly amazed by how huge the world is... And also beautiful, of course.
It's been day three since I started to play and so far I've uncovered no more than a half of the map.

One of the things I enjoy very much is that

To sum it up: I just love Knytt Underground!

One question though:
What about the PS3 exclusive content?
Is it really exclusive or is there a chance it could become somehow accessible even on PC?  :P2

I'd like to put it in the desktop version. Maybe if you could convince Sony :)

On the other hand, I wouldn't have added in the three exclusive stories at all without the support I got from my partners, so in the end it only resulted in more content.

I love this game.

However, I was a little skeptic before chapter three.. because, to be honest, the fourth-wall breaking at the end of the first two chapters was quite annoying.
When I'm playing games... I don't like to be reminded I'm playing games.
Things like: "Aw, come on! there are more chapters!" and "don't worry, I promise the next ending will be better!" should be left out in my opinion.
Those endings were fine, be confident and don't make unnecessary excuses :P

Anyway, just a small nitpick for an otherwise gorgeous game. I'm really loving the character development; it feels like I'm reading a really good book. This balances perfectly with the puzzles, creating a very entertaining platform for story-telling.

Many bravos,
Dj

I feel Nifflas' dialogue was an important part of the endings.

Me too. I enjoyed it. I thought it added a nice touch of humour. And the fourth wall gets broken right away when you first meet Nifflas and Mi "talks" to you. So I don't understand that complaint.

In Knytt Underground, it's an integrated part of the game universe. The characters in the game are fictional, but if you'd tell them that they would say "that's how we feel about YOUR world". I'm the only person who exists in both :)

Exclusiveness of games usually lasts for a few months, is there a chance for exclusiveness of this content to also wear off at some point?

"don't worry, I promise the next ending will be better!"
BTW, remember this phrase when you finish Chapter 3 :)

I wouldn't call it "premature."  While, yes, in the fullness of the game you see a payoff, you do have to go through it as a gateway to the rest of the game, so it bears looking at even on its own.

Oooooh, can't wait to get this!  Since i'm in the nonprofit field, I've been hit pretty hard.  Pretty sure this is the first time in a while I haven't taken a day off to play the new Nifflas game!  Loved when Saira and Nightsky came out and trying to figure out the secrets with everyone!

Still, I'll get to it eventually.  I've seen some indie games lately that'll offer free Steam codes when/if it hits Steam if you've already bought another download (i.e. formspring).  Any plans for/against this?

Got it from Playstation Plus, but will get it on PC as soon as possible.

Although I noticed the PC version seems to have better water effects than the PS3 version, I find it odd that there wasn't a way to have the same effects on the PS3 O.o

Actually it does. The map that you cannot view is about 1/5th of the map you can view. This includes the main menu and disorder too, but it has some secret areas too.

Finished the game and enjoyed it very much. The game world is great, It's like a window of light and sound hovering in vacuum. The Mi/Ball combos are very fun to perform. Music is some of the best and most atmospheric in video games. Story and dialogue were very good too and made me chuckle or think about things quite a few time.

I hope the Steam voting does well. Someone should make an official KU topic in neogaf and get people to vote.

Thanks for the Game !
I've got it yesterday for free as PSN Plus subscriber, and was sunk into HUGE chapter 3 map. Opened around 50% of it yet. And already adding the game to my "Golden list" of games, where such masterpieces like Braid, Limbo and Journey exist.

Today I've tried Mac demo and, oh boy, how much easier it is to control using cursor keys compared to PS3 gamepad ! Gamepad ultimately sucks in this game. So, there! Going to spend 13 EUR on Mac copy.

Thank You for the Game !

I really want Knytt Underground to be a big success. I feel like Nifflas doesn't get nearly enough attention as he deserves through his amazing work, specially with his super low prices and free games/platforms like Knytt and Knytt Stories. Maybe we could all help change that with Knytt Underground.
I don't really know what's Nifflas's situation right now, but if we shared a bit of story about his games on places like Reddit, maybe we could help. Specially since there is going to be a DRM-free version, that helps a lot.
I guess I eventually managed to use Reddit to help Nifflas a bit:

So I'm a little curious. It's been about a month now, right? I've been wondering ...

How well has KU done? Better than expected? Worse?
Have many copies sold? Which version is most popular?
Has it gotten the expected amount of media coverage (or more/less)?

Just bought it this past weekend and have been LOVING it! I also think its the best game yet, a nice blend of Saira (which got me hooked on Nifflas' games) and Knytt Stories (which I discovered after Saira. 1gb of User Knytt Stories later, I still absolutely adore it.)

I love the story, the narrative, the visuals, the art style. I especially like your taste for using close-ups of Small Objects like plants and flowers and leaves as beautiful, realistic backdrops that make the player feel like a tiny ant in a much larger world.

I haven't beaten it yet, I only just started Chapter 3, so I will let you know more once I finish it. My one hope right now is that, once the editor is released, that there are as many different variations in user content as Knytt Stories has.

The editor has already been released (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=5883.msg62363#msg62363). Well, it's the one Nifflas used, which might not be for everyone, but if you want to get your hands dirty...

I originally found out about this amazing game through one of my favorite LPers, DeceasedCrab. I was originally going to wait till it was green-lit on Steam to purchase it, but after playing the demo 3 times, I broke down and bought it. Now I anxiously await for that email so I can download and play it more... :D

And even if I have to buy it again to have it on my Steam account, I wouldn't mind at all, it's totally worth it! <3
