Development Showcase / Notroid: a platformer
« on: May 21, 2011, 17:00:22 »
First post on this forum for a long time . Anyway, I've started work on a platform game called Notroid. You can find information on a forum I've started for it and any projects I may have in the future. Screenshots can be found on my Dropbox Photos folder.

Granted. However, the rules of fairness dictate that anyone else's wishes come true in video games too. Someone else wishes that your game freezes up. Permanently.

I wish I were invincible.

I remember having this problem as well. I think it's actually caused by a missing/corrupted World.ini file or one that is missing the title and author.
...which if memory serves can even be just an empty directory, which if memory serves the game can't delete properly.
minmay is right; as this would cause a missing World.ini file.

About Nifflas' Website and Forum / Re: List of BBCode functions?
« on: February 18, 2010, 02:31:39 »
I think of acronym as a specific type of abbreviation, but there doesn't seem to be any practical difference between the tags. Perhaps we could chalk it up to another case of hair-splitting geekery. ;)

i believe an acronym is specifically where letters stand for words, where an abbreviation does not have to be exact (ex. SMF is an acronym for Simple Machines Forum and ex. is an abbreviation for example).

some browsers display these in different ways :P

Oh, and Dragon Noir is the name of a tea blend that Yann brought to Sweden on his trip here.

I was wondering what the name came from...[/offtopic]

I agree with AA on save spacing. Somebody playing an environmental may want to quit at any time, so either once every minute of play or maybe shiftsaves in some places would be a good idea.

As for LPChip's idea, I don't think warps have a save function (never seen it in any level EVER), and it would still have to be specified on every screen to set it up.

Best bet would probably be a mix of savepoints and shiftsaves, with the shifts placed sparingly.

Tab (coordinate jump) conflicts with crosshair (layer +) shortcut...possibly Ctrl+G (like notepad's goto line function), which does nothing.

Clicking on a level group still doesn't work...can't think why, unless disabling all of the keys in the script editor is screwing it up...however, changing screens does move around in the script, which is also pretty useful

a bit of weirdness...when you press tab with the script editor open, then press escape, the coordinates box and the script editor both close.

i can't believe how far this editor has come along, thank you so much Looki.

buy a copy of windows xp or vista (maybe 7 if you have latest mac os) at a store such as best buy, you need a valid bought copy of windows because of licensing reasons.

I sneak out at nighttimes to find a way out of drow-land. (still continuing education...)

and any guess on how long left would be wrong (most likely):
1 week remaining...2 weeks remaining...3 days remaining...(you get the idea)

this was one of those 'hey-wait-a-minute-that-was-such-an-easy-puzzle-why-didn't-i-think-of-that-before' things, and i noticed it when going through tilesets and the level map XD
first time, i solved by trial and error

Within a Deep Forest / Re: <Spoilers> Resetting an NPC
« on: November 13, 2009, 03:25:09 »
unfortunately, you have to restart the level to get it back (press escape and get back to it again)
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

But, to just beat the game, you don't need it. I recommend beating the game first, then going back to find it.
